"Sportsmania" Palm Spring Coaching
Clinic Set For Sept. 14-16, 2001--(May 12, 2001)

This one may seem like it's a long time from now, but when you're talking about a coaches' clinic with as many big names as this one will feature, it's never too early to start planning.  Here's what we know about the Sportsmania Coaches Clinic for men and women:   It will be held September 14-16 in Palm Springs (we don't know the hotel, but we've been told it will be at one of the better hotels in the area).  Speakers will include:

Dean Smith--Hall of Fame, Former Head Coach North Carolina
Bobby Knight--Hall of Fam, Former Head Coach Indiana, Current Head Coach at Texas Tech
Tubby Smith--Head Coach, University of Kentucky
Pete Newell--Hall of Fame, Former Head Coach Cal, consultant & big man specialist
Jim Calhoun--University of Connecticut
Steve Alford--University of Iowa
Lou Henson--University of New Mexico
Michael Cooper--Former NBA Player & WNBA Coach
Kiki Vandeweghe--Former NBA Player, Dallas Mavericks Assistant
Ann Meyers Drysdale--Hall of Fame, Former player and television analyst
Linda Sharp--Hall of Fame, WNBA
Kathy Marpe--University of San Diego
Chris Gobrecht--University of Southern California
Dr. Ken Ravizza--"Coaching Today's Athletes"

The event will also feature more than 50 different sports and fundraising vendors.  The clinic will include a party and hospitality hour on Friday as well as golf with the coaches (for a low price of $25.00 which reportedly will include a cart and range balls).  The registration fee for the clinic is $82 per person ($77 per person if you register two or more coaches at the same time.  There's also a student rate of $25.00 per person for the clinic, and special rates will be offered to youth coaches who want to attend.  The e-mail we received also noted that the organizers were giving a special "early registration incentive" :  If you register before June 22, 2001, you'll receive a "free 3 day/2 night vacation for 2 people (accomodations only)".  We have no idea where the vacation is, but if you want to find out more about the event, or register, call Chuck Campione at (760) 320-3220.
