Mondays Gold and Silver Bracket Results
We only had time to see two games so well have some comments on those and all the stats and scores we could gather.
Santa Monica 64, Taft 59
We thought Taft would win this one but Santa Monica seems to improve a little with each game. They did enough improving in the second half to earn a victory. Taft had appeared to gain control in the first half, thanks to Javakerian (sorry if we spell some names wrong or forget some but complete info was not always available). He showed a nice shooting touch and blistered the nets for 18 first-half points. Tafts PG Mustafa Asghari played well enough to keep the game going Tafts way up to their 33-27 halftime lead. But Santa Monica was the steadier team tonight and once they grabbed the lead Taft never regained control. Brett Deangelis had the hot hand in the second half when he tossed in 15 of his 17 total points to spark Santa Monica. Steady senior Dresie added 12, Parker had 14, and rising sophomore (hes only 14 years old!) Greg Walker chipped in 7. Greg is also a ball boy for the LA Clippers so he must be picking up some good help as his future looks bright. For Taft, Javakerian ended up with 23 and Asghari got 20.
Chaminade 77, Chatsworth 72
We were running around trying to gather other scores and stats immediately after this game and realized that we didnt mark down this games final score. But the one above is very close if not right on. This game was quite a battle. Frank Robinson (30 points) was almost a one-man gang for Chatsworth as he slashed and spun his way to the basket all night, but varying the routine frequently to grab rebounds or block shots. Chaminade answered with frequent lay ins of their own they love to run the court and go for easy transition baskets. In the end, Chaminade had just enough to pull out the win in an exciting and tight game. Chaminade was led by Marcus Everett (20 points) and big John Todd, who tallied 13 points inside.
