Cody Pearson Commits
To Long Beach State--(June 9, 2001)
We spoke with Cody Pearson (6'-4" Sr. G) from Sherman Oaks Notre Dame last Sunday at the Roundball Extravaganza where he played a very nice game, and at that point, Cody was still planning to attend Pepperdine. . .at least that's what he told us just before the Top 20 All-Star game he played in. . . But last night, Dinos Trigonis, who coached Cody on his Belmont Shore travel team, sent us the following press release:
Cody Pearson Commits To Long Beach State
(June 7, 2001)6'4" wing guard Cody Pearson of Notre Dame HS (Sherman Oaks CA) has committed to Long Beach State - selecting the 49'ers over Pepperdine, George Washington, St. Bonaventure and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Pearson (who averaged over 25 ppg his final two HS seasons) was the 2001 San Fernando Valley "Player of the Year" (as selected by both the Los Angeles Times and Los Angeles Daily News), a two-time Division III All-State and All-CIF pick, 2000 adidas ABCD Camp invitee, 2000 Rim Rattler All-West Camp "Top 20" all-star and 2001 Mission League MVP. Pearson led his Notre Dame squad this past season to a #1 ranking in the San Fernando Valley, a Mission League title and to the CIF III-AA semi-finals - losing to eventual CIF and state champion Bishop Montgomery. Cody also scored 30 points in a state playoff game versus St. Augustine (San Diego CA) led Oregon State-signee Floyd North and Utah-signee Eric Osmundsen.
Pearson will walk-on this fall at Long Beach State and redshirt his freshman year for the 49'ers (who are out of scholarships this recruiting year). Cody will thereafter be a "scholarship" player for his four seasons of athletic eligibility. Cody is fully qualified (2.5 GPA/1070 SAT).
Congratulations to Cody, and we're glad we'll be seeing him play close to home.
