More UCLA News:  Lavin Gets State
Transfer Jon Crispin--(June 6, 2001)

This past week was big for UCLA, and even though they purportedly lost out on junior point guard prospect Richard Midgeley (6'-2" Jr. PG) from Modesto Christian (were they even recruiting Midgeley???)  the Bruins managed to pickup a very nice commitment from an accomplished D-I guard who will, in a year after redshirting, be able to provide some valuable help for Cedric Bozeman at the one and some other options besides Spencer Gloger at the two. . .not that Ced will need any help,   or that Gloger can't shoot over anyone,  but  Jon Crispin (6'-2" So. PG/SG) can do a bit of both too.   While he's probably more of a shooting guard than a point anyway, he provides some valuable depth to what will be an already  very deep roster.

Turning on the Penn State pipeline again (recall that UCLA also picked up Penn State transfer Ryan "Moose" Bailey four years ago too)   Crispin decided to pick UCLA over a host of schools who were recruiting the Penn State transferee, including Georgia, Florida and Stanford.  At Penn State, Crispin averaged 7.2 points, 1.7 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game last season during which he started all but two of PSU's 33 games. He shot 39.5% from the field; 35.6% from the three point line.

A couple of the usual internet sources have some really good information on the reasons why Crispin picked UCLA.  Of course there's the typical stuff that can be found on most of the recruiting sites (e.g., Mike Sullivan's stuff at Rivals100Hoops.com), but how many families have their own website like the Crispin brothers? (Jon's brother Joe was also a standout player for Penn State for the last four years, and many believe that his graduation is the reason why Jon decided to leave PSU).   Really, you've got to check out CrispinHoops.com.  It's truly unbelievable, very well done and there isn't a better source for information about the brother's Crispin.
