1st Annual CIF-SS "Small Schools" All-Star
Game Set For Tonight--(June 8, 2001)

We wish this game had been set for another night. . . . any other night besides the Lakers v. 76'ers NBA Final Game 2. . ..but it isn't.    The First Annual "Small Schools" All-Star game will be held at Taft HS, tonight, starting at 7:30 p.m. with a game between two teams of players from the San Gabriel Valley and the San Bernardino-Riverside region (why, you ask is it being played in the SFV, and to that we can only say, "why not?"), followed up by an all San Fernando Valley competition.  All of the players are graduating seniors from Division IV and V schools from all over the Southern Section.

If you're a fan of some of those smaller schools, then you'll recognize many names, some of whom were All-CIF selections this past season.  The games are sponsored by Bassco Sporting Goods (a regular supplier of uniforms to teams throughout the region), a company called "A Life Management" (which looks like some sort of "we'll do everything for you" service), and Valley Baseball Cards.  In addition to the all-star game, there will be a half court shot contest, a 3-point shootout, and some other goodies.

There have been some roster changes, mostly deletions (e.g., Keilon Fortune) and a few other players can't be there because it's also the night of their senior proms, but there will evidently still be plenty of playing time for those guys who do show. Here are the rosters, at least insofar as they've been provided to us previously.
