2nd Annual SCIBCA Tournament
"Small Schools" Brackets--(June 5, 2001)

We've already posted the brackets for the 2001 SCIBCA "Gold" and "Blue" brackets (even though we misidentified them slightly when we posted them last week, the "East" is really the "Blue" and the "West" is the "Gold", or so we're told).  But in addition to those original 72 teams shown in several different brackets, there's another whole tournament within the SCIBCA umbrella taking place this weekend: The SCIBCA "Small Schools" Tournament, which is two brackets of mostly Division III, IV and V CIF enrollment-level schools. 

What follows are the schedules and brackets for the Small Schools Tournament which were faxed to us over the last weekend.    Hopefully between now and the start of the tournament, someone over at SCIBCA.org will provide better bracketing than the two brackets shown below,  and we're hopeful because SCIBCA now has it's own website (which by the way, is going to be very helpful in many ways to the members of the organization).   While they've posted the girls tournament brackets (using a graphic, which may not be readable by everyone accessing the site), alas, as of this writing, the new SCIBCA site didn't have any of the boys' tournament brackets, so what we've got here is about as good as it gets for now.

The small schools division will have 24 teams, maybe 25 or 26 by the time the weekend rolls around.  For example, we know that La Canada is supposed to be in one of the tournament brackets (not sure whether it's "small schools" or the Gold or Blue brackets for larger schools), but we know that they weren't shown anywhere on the brackets faxed to us. . . So when you see a "bye" on one of the brackets, it's likely that La Canada will be plugged into the bracket. . . And there will probably be one or two others as well just like La Canada.

For those of you who are graphically challenged, the SCIBCA Tournament, Small Schools Division has the following schools in it:
Duarte,  South Hills,  South El Monte,  Sierra Vista,  Maranatha,   Covina, San Gabriel, Serrano, Brethren Christian,  Western Christian, Northview, Huntington Park, Harvard-Westlake, Calabasas, Brentwood, El Segundo, St. Monica, Oaks Christian, Stoneridge, St. Bonaventure, Chaminade, Nordhoff, and Marshall (Pasadena).  And as we said, probably La Canada too.

The Small Schools bracket is divided into two halves, "A" and "B" with games at Duarte (A Bracket) and St. Monicas (B
Bracket)

Here are the first round matchups for next week, June 8 at each location:

Game 1 3:00 p.m. South Hills v. Maranatha
Game 2 4:00 p.m. S. El Monte v. Sierra Vista

Games continue on Saturday, June 9 and the finals are on June 10 where the winner of the "A" Bracket and the winner of the
"B" Bracket will square off against each other at 11:00 a.m. at Century HS.

We have to say that some of what appears on this bracket doesn't make sense (like where does the loser of Game #2 really play) but it's what we received via fax from SCIBCA. . .oh well. It's better than nothing.
