Summer 2001 West Coast Recruiting Events...More
Than You Ever Wanted To Know--(June 5, 2001)

In addition to many of the tournaments and camps that we routinely put the word out about, there are a ton of events taking place all over the west coast which are or may be important to players, parents, college coaches, scouts, and just plain fans.  We recently updated our own SoCalHoops tournament and event listings for this summer, but there have been some other events which we haven't had time to list which were recently brought to our attention by Gerry Freitas, who writes the California Cage Report, a scouting and evaluation publication which is available only to college coaches (yep, it's just for college coaches, so it's not available to the general public).   Gerry (and Jan Bryant, who typed it for the Cage Report) were kind enough to send us an almost-complete event calendar (even they missed a few of the local SoCal events, which we've added). Keep in mind that we've already posted a similar event calendar with the Summer 2001 recruiting periods identified, but that one covered more than just the west coast.  Still, you might also want to take a look at that calendar also to see if there's any new info below, or something we missed.  But for the sake of the shut-ins, remember that the "live" NCAA evaluation period this year is July 7-14 for the first period, then from July 25-31 for the second period. . . which actually makes the fall recruiting period (in which there will be four consecutive weeks available to college coaches in September) probably more important than even this summer. . . but we digress.  Here's the 2001 Summer event calendar for the most prominent West Coast events:

We've highlighted events in red where you are likely to see a lot of top national recruits;  blue-highlighted events are likely to feature some potential national recruits, as well as many top regional players;  the rest we are either uncertain about right now or they will mostly feature a lot of local or regional-level players only. We don't intend to pass judgment in advance on some of these events, and certainly there are many where if you asked us today which teams and players will be attending, we'd be hard-pressed to give you any specifics, but we think our take on these events from years past, is pretty accurate.  Again, if we've missed any events, let us know and we'll add them to the list.
