We received a lot of e-mail from college coaches announcing camps and clinics, and June is the month not only for high school tournaments, but also for college on-campus camps and clinics.  We've got a number of them listed in our "Camps" listing, but yesterday we received a new one from Pepperdine Assistant Coach Jim Nielsen, letting us know about Pepperdine Head Coach Paul Westphal's "Big Man / Perimeter Camp".   Rather than simply repeat it, here's the announcment along with an application form for thosse interested.  And if you have any additional questions or need further information, contact coach Jim Nielsen at the number listed below.

Head Pepperdine Coach Paul Westphal is pleased to announce the inaugural Big man, Perimeter, Men’s Basketball Camp at the beautiful Malibu Campus this summer. Are you serious about improving your game? Do you want to test yourself against some of the finest players in Southern California? Would you like to be instructed by a Five Time NBA all-star player and a two-time All-American at USC?

Who:
High school and Junior College Guards, Forwards, and Centers who want to improve their skill and learn from Coach Westphal and his staff for two days at the beautiful Pepperdine Campus in Malibu. We will keep the camp small to give you the individual attention that you deserve.

What:
Two days of intensive skill breakdown to improve your game and learn the "tricks of the trade" from the Pepperdine staff.

Where:
On the beautiful Pepperdine Campus at Malibu

When:
Friday June 22 from 6:00 to 9:30
Saturday from 9:00-12:00 p.m. and 1:00-4:00 p.m.

Cost: $60.00 for commuters or for a taste of college living, $150.00 for an overnight stay covering food and lodging.

Coaches:

Head Coach Paul Westphal:

Was a First team All- NBA performer averaging over 24 p.p.g. As well as a NBA Head Coach for many years. Coach Westphal will personally oversee the Camp and will be in attendance throughout. Coach Westphal will focus individual Offensive progression and over see the entire camp.

Assistant Coach Gib Arnold:

Part of the Pepperdine coaching staff for the last two years. Coach Arnold has also coached @ Loyola and Vanderbilt Universities. Coach Arnold was the State Player of the Year his Senior year in Hawaii and will head the perimeter portion of the Camp and will instruct the guards and forwards.

Assistant Coach Jim Nielsen:

Comes to Pepperdine after coaching 27 years in High School the last nine years @ Redondo High School. Coach Nielsen will be in charge of the Center position development. Every starting center that played for Coach Nielsen went on to play at College at some level. Coach Nielsen played for Hall of Fame coach Marv Harshman at Washington State University.

I will commute to the camp the cost will be $60.00 for camp only. I will be on my own for any food.

I will stay overnight the entire cost for food, lodging, instruction will be $150.00. I will be housed in a Pepperdine Dorm room and I will receive dinner on Friday, a Breakfast and lunch in the student cafeteria on Saturday.

I hereby authorize the staff of the Paul Westphal Basketball Camp to act for me according to their best judgement in any emergency requiring medical attention and I hereby waive and release the camp from any and all liability for any injuries or illness incurred while at camp. I have no knowledge of any injury or illnesses that would be affected by the camp participation as outlined in the brochure. I also understand the camp retains the right to use for publicity and adverting purposes, photographs campers taken at camp. I have read the above regulations of the camp and agree to abide by them. I understand and agree there is a $50.00 fee for all cancellations
