adidas Double Pump West Coast All Star Camp

Where:

Cal State Dominguez Hills

1000 E. Victoria, Carson, CA

When:

Session #1:  July 7 through 10, 2001
Session #2:  July 11 through 14, 2001

300 top players, many D-I coaches

This year, the recruiting calendar is a bit screwy, but while some things change, others just keep getting better.  While both ABCD and Nike Camps are happening a half a continent away (well, it's half a continent in the case of Nike which is at Indiana University at Purdue University at Indianapolis, and a whole continent for adidas ABCD, which is in Teaneck, New Jersey just outside New York at Fairleigh-Dickenson University) many of the top players in the West (and a few from the East and Midwest also ) will be attending regional camps taking place during the first days of the July open evaluation period.  One of the best and most well-known of these camps is the adidas Double Pump West Coast All Star Camp, which starts this Saturday, July 7, 2001 at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The first day of the camp will not be open evaluation, but coaches will be out in full force starting Saturday. This year's version of the WCAS #1 will feature many top players from all over the West, including many of the best from both SoCal and NorCal, as well as players from Washington, Oregon, Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Alaska, Texas, New Mexico and several other states.   Admittedly, this session is not as competitive as the second session, in terms of the number of top elite-level seniors, but it's still going to have some excellent talent.

We don't have the full lists of players attending yet, but we'll have some information shortly.  In the meantime, we're told that there are still a few spots available at the first session, but the second session may in fact be sold out (which is not at all surprising, because that's the bigger and more competitive session).  In terms of contacting the camp personnel to find out about openings, you'll have to contact the Double Pump office and listen to the pre-recorded messages, because the staff (i.e. Jan and Phil Bryant and company) have already moved down to CSUDH, and they are pretty hard to get hold of right now.

If you're just planning on going down to watch, here's a map to Dominguez, which is located right near the intersection of the 405/91/110 Freeways, readily accessible from just about anywhere in SoCal. . . From the 91 or the 405 exit at Avalon, and from the 110, exit to the 91 freeway.  Hopefully, we'll have schedules to post in the next day or two as well. Stay tuned.
