Pepperdine Gets Commitment
From Derrick Grubb--(Aug. 7, 2001)
Apparently, Derrick Grubb (6'-10" Sr. C) from Colleyville (Heritage) TX, has given a verbal commitment to the coaches at Pepperdine. Both Dave Telep at BlueChipHoops.com and Clark Francis at The HoopScoop announced this verbal a couple of days ago, but in case anyone missed it, this is big news for the coaching staff at Pepperdine. Grubb is a solid 250 pound post player who had been recruited by Lamar and UT-Arlington, and, according to Telep, had also been receiving interest from Denver, San Diego, Santa Barbara, and others.
Grubb told Telep that he's looking forward to working with Pepperdine's new coaching staff:
[Westphals] approach intrigues me. Its more drilling and things like that. Hes also looking forward to working with former Redondo Union High coach Jim Nielsen who will handle the big men at Pepperdine. They said Id probably come in my freshman year and end up playing a considerable amount of time. Right now [the best part of my game] is my size. Im somewhat athletic for a big guy.
