John Haywood Commits To LMU--(Aug. 31, 2001)

PrepWestHoops is reporting today (in an article that for some reason isn't "subscriber only" like the rest of their more recent stories since the site went premium only--a teaser perhaps?) that John Haywood (6'-5" Sr. SG) from Bishop Amat has given a verbal commitment to Loyola Marymount University head coach Steve Aggers. PWH spoke with Haywood, who confirmed the commitment, and told them that he was also recruited by UC-Irvine, Nevada (Reno), Wyoming and Boise State. When asked what it was that influenced his decision, Haywood, who played the past several years with the Los Angeles Rockfish, told PrepWestHoops: "The school atmosphere. It's a smaller school, smaller classes, so you have a chance to interact with the teachers. Also, I think they're a program on the way up with Steve Aggers and I want to be a part of that."

And, in honor of the impending Labor Day holiday, we've labored to make a point of noting in the headline above that John plays not only for his high school team (Bishop Amat), but also for the LA Rockfish club team....hopefully this will not engender another of the silly threads about who gets the "credit" for a player's recruitment.
