LMU Hires Dedrique Taylor
As Third Assistant --(Aug. 7, 2001)

We received the following press release a few days ago, and since we've been sort of busy the past few days, haven't had time to post it.  Actually there are quite a few things we will be posting that we've been delaying due to the frantic pace of the last few weeks, so we've got a lot of catching up to do. Here's the news from LMU's Sports Information Director, John Shaffer:

LMU Men’s Basketball Hires Third Assistant
Dedrique Taylor completes staff for 2001-02 season

TRANSACTIONS: Men’s Basketball - Loyola Marymount University has hired Dedrique Taylor as an assistant men’s basketball coach.

Los Angeles, Calif. (August 3, 2001)-- Loyola Marymount University has completed its coaching staff for the 2001-02 season with the hiring of Dedrique Taylor. He will enter his first season at LMU at a perfect time in coming from the University of California, Davis.

Taylor joins second-year head coach Steve Aggers’ staff following one of the programs best turnarounds in school history. The 2000-01 season marked the fifth best turnaround in school history, making a seven-game swing in the win column a year ago.

With seven seniors returning and one of the top recruiting classes in the West Coast Conference, the Lions’ program will only improve. And Taylor couldn’t be happier in joining the program on its rise.

“Coach Aggers has been successful everywhere he has coached and I am excited to be joining LMU,” said Taylor. “There is a lot of excitement toward this program and the ‘Team First’ attitude is so important. This will be a great experience.”

Taylor will oversee the strength and conditioning of the Lions’ players, organizing team travel, equipment, facilities and summer camps. He is coming off a one year role with UC Davis in which he assisted with talent assessment, coordinated campus visits, coached the guard position and assisted in the execution of summer and spring clinics.

“Dedrique brings a wealth of talent to our program,” said Aggers. “His playing career at Davis and then his coaching experience at the high school and college level on the west coast gives him valuable experience that will be a welcome addition to our staff.”

Taylor led UC Davis to the NCAA Division II Regional tournament in his two years with UCD. As a team captain in 1996-97, UC Davis finished with a 20-9 record and advanced to the first round of the NCAA tournament. His first year at Davis, they were 23-7 and advanced to the second round. He also played one year (1994-95) at Armstrong State where they advanced to the NCAA II Sweet 16. In addition, he played professionally overseas and was a professional agent at one time.

Taylor, who earned his B.A. in Sociology and Organizational studies at UC Davis, went to get his Sports Administration masters at the United Sports Academy in 2000.  -GO LIONS-
