2001 Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase:
Top 24 Seniors Rosters--(Sept. 9, 2001)

The final game of the day featured what many felt was a consensus of the top players in SoCal in this year's senior class, including at least one player who is likely bound for the NBA next year, whether some think he's ready or not.   DeAngelo Collins has only played at a few events this year, including being named as the co-MVP of the senior All-Star Game at ABCD Camp this year.  After ABCD, he decided to take the rest of the summer off because, as he told anyone who asked, he had nothing left to prove.   He showed up for this game about 3 minutes after the start, but that didn't stop him and in the first 5 minutes he was in the game, he scored 10 quick points, recorded two blocks and showed that whatever his off-court problems, he's going to be a big time player.   Other than DeAngelo, just about everyone else had a story to tell, whether it was recruiting or just a story, and we'll save the good stuff for later this week.  We have no idea what Glenn Ballard was doing in this game, particularly since Richard Chaney (6'-5" Sr. F) from Verbum Dei (who has committed to Utah)  had come over to watch his friends play and was available, but didn't get asked to join in), but hey, we just write about this stuff, and don't get to pick the players.  Oh well, it was still a pretty good game with a ton of dunking, some showboating, and even a screaming coach who berated a player or two for showing off too much.....just like a real game....(just kidding).   It was a fun game, and you could tell that some of these guys were a bit rusty after taking most of August off, but they were itching to get back into the game again, and it was fun to see so much athleticism in one place.

In the meantime, the rosters are below.  As with the other games that preceded it and the ones that followed,  no D-I coaches were present, but there were plenty of fans, more than a few scout types (Clark Francis of HoopScoop, Jerry Freitas from The Caliornia Cage Report, Dave Nahabedian from Networkx, Greg Hicks and Tracy Pierson from PrepWestHoops, Dave Keefer from CaliforniaPreps.com, Mark Mayemura from Recruiting-USA, Frank Burlison and Louis Johnson from FoxSports.com, and SoCalHoops).... and there were also quite a few D-II, III and NAIA coaches in the gym, who weren't prohibited by silly new NCAA rules from being there.  And lastly, Frederick Smith, Jr. from VideoScouting.com was there filming each of the games, so if you're a D-I coach who missed out, you can always purchase a tape by contacting Frederick directly at (310) 523-3935.
