2001 Fullcourt Press Fall Showcase:
Top 24 Juniors Rosters--(Sept. 9, 2001)
This game got started at 2:30 p.m. and featured some of the best players you've heard about already from the current rising junior class, including more than a few Nike Camp and ABCD alumns, as well as some of the best players on either coast who didn't play at the two prestigious summer camps but who likely will next year. Top standouts from this game were Marcus Williams who characteristically hit a lot of long threes, Wendell White (who told us that he's enrolled at Redondo and will not be attending Montclair Prep after all), Scott Cutley from Westchester, who looks like he could be one of the Johnson (Kris & Josiah) brothers, Trevor Ariza, Sean Marshall, Harrison Schaen, and Wesley Washington. Of course just about everyone in this game added something, so we don't mean to single out anyone as not playing as good as those just mentioned... Unfortunately, Ekene Ibekew (6'-9" Jr. F) was listed on the roster, as was Richard Cobbs (6'-5" Jr. F) from Canyon Spring, but neither of them were there. Mark Bradford, who wasn't listed on the roster played though, and he helped make up for their absences and then some. And Eric Lane looks like he could be CJ Watson's younger brother; it was the first time we've seen him, and we were pleasantly surprised.
The list of team rosters from the Top 24 Junior game is set out below. As with the other games that preceded it and the ones that followed, no D-I coaches were present, but there were plenty of fans, more than a few scout types (Clark Francis of HoopScoop, Jerry Freitas from The Caliornia Cage Report, Dave Nahabedian from Networkx, Greg Hicks and Tracy Pierson from PrepWestHoops, Dave Keefer from CaliforniaPreps.com, Mark Mayemura from Recruiting-USA, Frank Burlison and Louis Johnson from FoxSports.com, and SoCalHoops).... and there were also quite a few D-II, III and NAIA coaches in the gym, who weren't prohibited by silly new NCAA rules from being there. And lastly, Frederick Smith, Jr. from VideoScouting.com was there filming each of the games, so if you're a D-I coach who missed out, you can always purchase a tape by contacting Frederick directly at (310) 523-3935.
