LMU to Host Coaching Clinic
Lions to team with SCIBA to host second annual coaches clinic at LMU.Los Angeles, Calif. (September 10, 2001)-- For the second consecutive year, Loyola Marymount University men's basketball Head Coach Steve Aggers and his staff will host a coaching clinic. The 2001 edition is co-sponsored by the Southern California Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association (SCIBA).
The clinic will be held on Saturday, October 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Gersten Pavilion on the campus of LMU. Aggers and his staff, who will be entering their second season at LMU, have developed the clinic that will teach basic concepts of the game of basketball.
Coach Aggers will highlight the camp and will talk about the LMU program. Aggers, who was voted by CollegeInsider.com as the West Coast Conference Coach of the Year, has a lengthy list of credentials he brings to the clinic. Known as a true teacher of the game by his peers, Aggers has won 323 games in his head coaching career and has been to three NCAA Division I Tournaments.
Four others will join Aggers in the clinic. Chris Rounds, strength coach at LMU, will speak on "Developing a Comprehensive Strength and Conditioning Program." Rounds, who was hired a year ago from Kentucky, was the strength coach for the Wildcat team that won the 1998 National Championship.
De La Salle High School Head Coach Frank Alloco will present "Building Team Defensive Concepts." In his five year stint at De La Salle, the program has compiled a record of 112-12 (.900), won four league titles and three straight Nor-Cal Section Titles. He also coached at Northgate High School and compiled a record of 167-28.
The University of Redlands Head Coach Gary Smith will give an "Introduction to the Triple Post Offense." The West Region Coach of the Year in 1985 was an assistant on the West Team for the U.S. Olympic Festival and a coach for the German Olympic Basketball Development Program.
Rounding out the list is Jerry Hernandez, who will speak on "Offensive Schemes and Building a Secondary Break." As the head coach of Irvine Valley College, Hernandez led the team to the Orange Coast Conference title in 1998 and led Cerritos College to a state championship as an assistant.
