Lenny Collins Commits To Cornell--(Oct. 31, 2001)
Lenny Collins (6'-4" Sr. SG/SF) from Santa Margarita HS in Rancho Santa Margarita, has committed to Cornell, according to published reports. Collins was recruited by a number of WCC schools, but decided to end the recruiting process early. Cornell, a member of the Ivy League doesn't subscribe to the National Letter of Intent system, so Collins won't be "signing" a letter in mid-November, but the commitment is nevertheless significant. Collins is a solid wing player, not someone who will dunk on you or exhibit tremendous athleticism, but an aggressive defender who can shoot with pinpoint accuracy and rebounds inside too. Collins played this summer with the Double Pump All Stars team which featured Franklin Robinson, Kevin Stacey, Baker Dunleavy and others, and he joins teammate Travis Smith (6'-4" Sr. PG) who committed to San Diego this summer. Brandon Rohe (6'-4" Sr. SG) also of Santa Margarita has received interest from some of the Ivies, but will likely attend either a WCC school or possibly Georgia where he's been offered by coach Jim Herrick.
Collins will join Rohe's brother, Jake, who is currently on the roster at Cornell. Lenny was All-League and All-CIF last season, an excellent three point shooter who defends well. Congratulations to Lenny and to Cornell on a great pickup.
