2001 Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/Soph Camp
This Weekend At Valencia HS--(Oct. 1, 2001)

This past spring,  back when it wasn't fashionable to talk about hosting an event outside an NCAA exposure period, Dinos Trigonis and Clark Francis announced that they would host a camp under the aegis of Fullcourt Press and HoopScoop.  For various reasons, many outside their control, they weren't able to put that event on, but Dinos was determined and has held rock solid in his desire to host events for players whether or not the NCAA says coaches can attend or not.  A few weeks ago, he hosted the Fullcourt Press Fall Hoops Classic (which unfortunately we weren't able to attend, but we heard it was a great tournament, enjoyed by all), and now he has plans to host an event simply for the sake of hosting an event for the players, i.e., to provide a structured environment for the benefit of the kids who want to play the game against other top rising players.

So, despite the fact that the fall D-I recruiting period has received a sort of kick in the head from the NCAA, Fullcourt Press will sponsor what Dinos hopes will be the first of many annual "Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/Soph" camps this weekend at Valencia High School (the Valencia HS which is located in Placentia, CA, not in the city of Valencia, near Canyon Country).

There won't be any D-I coaches in attendance (remember, they can't attend events any longer during the fall except pickup games at a prospect's high school campus), but there may be other levels of coaches, as well as several media "scouting" types and recruiting services. Dinos sent us a press release about this some time ago, and while we've had to put things on hold for about a week, we thought we'd post an announcement before it got too late.  Here's the release:

The first annual Fullcourt Press All-Frosh/Soph Camp will be held on Saturday-Sunday October 6-7, 2001 at Valencia High School (Placentia CA).

This recruiting exposure/instructional camp (limited to 2001-02 HS freshmen and sophomores) is designed to provide all players an opportunity to demonstrate their skills to the several scouts and media expected to attend as well as enhance their fundamental skill level.

All campers will be evaluated by the Fullcourt Press staff and included in a special camp report that will be made available to the 150-plus college programs that subscribe to the Fullcourt Press. Besides playing in games and participating in drills/stations, players will also hear from guest speakers/instructors.

This camp will be limited to just 120 players and several of the top freshmen and sophomores in Southern California have already registered. The player camp fee is $195.00 (day campers) and $250.00 (overnight campers) and includes 4 games, camp t-shirt and meals.

Players expected to attend include sophomores Gabriel Pruitt (Compton Centennial), Curtis Allen (Rolling Hills Prep), Marcel Jones (Mater Dei), Arron Afflalo (Compton Centennial), Jamie Diefenbach (Newport Harbor), Josh Shipp (Fairfax) and Sean Green (Rialto) as well as freshmen Maurion Henderson (Los Angeles Palisades), Brian Harvey (Carson), Marcus Johnson (Westchester), Jamaal Boykin (Fairfax), Ed White Jr. (Harvard-Westlake), Brett Hoerner (Fullerton) and Brian McTear (Crenshaw).
