Brandon Rohe Verbally Commits
To Santa Clara--(Oct. 31, 2001)

brandonrohe.jpg (8710 bytes)We've been a little backed up lately with things other than basketball, so please excuse the fact that we haven't been right on top of all of the verbals coming out of the West Coast lately, but after posting the word on Lenny Collins' commitment to Cornell yesterday, we received an e-mail from the coaching staff at Santa Margarita, letting us know that we missed one commitment that we should have posted: The verbal commitment of Brandon Rohe (6'-4" Sr. SG) to the University of Santa Clara, which apparently actually took place shortly after he took an official visit there a couple of weeks ago.

Brandon is an excellent mid-to-long range shooter, a strong defender with good quickness and lateral mobility who can handle the ball some when needed, and he's a great young man.  He spent this past spring and summer playing for the Pump N Run All Stars (which featured CJ Watson (Tennessee), Matt McKinney, David Padgett, David Gale, Brad Buckman (Texas), Omar Wilkes, Richard Chaney (Utah), Nik Caner-Medley (Maryland), Lance Soderberg, and (for a short time) Brandon Worthy (LMU), and we had lots of opportunity to see him play.  Rohe had some great shooting performances while traveling with the team to Indiana for the Spiece Run N Slam in early May, to Fresno for the Mats' Madness Memorial Day tournament, at ABCD Camp where he played solid defense (something which was largely in short supply there), the adidas Las Vegas Big Time, Double Pump's West Coast All Star Camp and the Double Pump "Best of Summer" tournament at LMU to close out the summer competition.   Brandon attracted a lot of attention from some top schools including Georgia, which offered him in Las Vegas, as well as several other west coast schools which continued to recruit him (including Santa Clara's rival, Gonzaga), as well as several Ivies.

With Rohe's commitment to Santa Clara it marks two very nice pickups for the Broncos this fall, the other being Travis Niesen (6'-7" Sr.  F) from Mission Viejo.  The two SoCal players will join some other familiar names currently on the roster at Santa Clara this year, including current soph Jason Morrissette from LA Fairfax, current frosh Scott Borchart from West Hills Chaminade, as well as another familiar name, frosh Bakari Altheimer who happens to be from Oakland, but who spent much of his spring and summer a year ago traveling with the Double Pump All Star team.

Congratulations to Brandon and to Santa Clara coaches Dick Davey, Sam Sciulli, Steve Seandel, and Antonio Velasco, as well as to the coaching staff at Santa Margarita HS (Jerry DeBusk, and Rusty Van Cleave, as well as others) who just keep churning out Division I players year after year.
