Sr. Hollins To Saint Louis
Definite;
Jr. Nick Stiggers To USC?--(Oct. 18, 2001)
A couple of reports which have surfaced during the
day, one that we've confirmed, and the other which at the moment, is sorta, kinda
speculation.
Ryan Hollins to Saint Louis:
This one has been confirmed, and Hollins wasn't apparently as undecided as we
had been earlier led to believe. We reported just a few days ago after talking with
Ryan's dad, that he was still undecided between five schools, including Arizona State,
Oregon, St. Louis, UTEP, and USC. According to what we've now learned, Ryan
eliminated two schools (USC and Oregon) and then narrowed it down to three, and
ultimately picked Saint Louis. Congratulations to Ryan and to Billikens head coach
Lorenzo Romar.
Nick Stiggers to USC? This one
is totally and completely unconfirmed, and actually comes to us second hand: Dinos
Trigonis, who also from time to time gives info to our mutual friend Clark Francis at HoopScoop has apparently gotten some very
reliable information that USC has received a verbal commitment from Nick Stiggers
(6'-8" Jr. PF) from Hillcrest HS in Memphis, Tennessee. This is actually pretty
interesting news, and Stiggers is an intriguing prospect. We first saw Nick
this spring playing for EBO, and then saw him again at ABCD Camp where, on the first day
of full games, Nick went up for a tomahawk slam dunk, and promptly broke his hand (badly),
and as a result, he had to have it heavily bandaged. How tough is this guy? He
continued to play, even with the broken hand. Nick then came out to SoCal, for the
second session of the Double Pump West Coast All Star Camp, but only played in one game,
and then not too effectively, given the hand injury.
Stiggers was also reported to be coming to
California for high school. While at the West Coast camp, Nick spent alot of time hanging
out with his EBO teammates, and it was rumored that he and teammate Maurice Shaw
(6'-9" Sr. F) from Fresno Hoover, would both transfer together to San Joaquin
Memorial. Obviously, that didn't happen, and Nick went back to Tennessee. [An
interesting sidenote though: While Nick didn't go to SJ Memorial, two other
EBO teammates have enrolled there, including Antonio "ATM" Lawrence (6'-5"
Sr. G/F) and Dwain Williams (6'-0" Fr. PG) who was rumored to be enrolling at Mater
Dei...obviously that didn't happen either.....small world].
Nick is a huge, powerful guy, with excellent
athleticism, who looks a heck of a lot older and more mature than someone who would be
just a junior in high school this season, but then we've always been a bad judge of
age....He's a banger, who can clean up inside and rebounds very well. Active,
strong, just the kind of guy that Henry Bibby likes, and if this one is truly a real
commitment, it's a great pickup for the Trojans.
