WAC: Boise State Signs MC's Pratt,
& JUCO Haynes To NLIs--(Nov. 15, 2001)

The WAC has been picking up its recruiting, and yesterday, Boise State announced the signing of two players, one of whom we're pretty familiar with, Marc Pratt (6'-4" Sr. G) from Modesto Christian (the school has four D-I players signing this fall), and Aaron Haynes from Sacramento City College.   Here's the official press release.

Broncos Sign a Pair to Play Men's Basketball
by Todd Miles (11/14/01)

Boise State men’s basketball coach Rod Jensen announced today, November 14, the signings of a pair of players from Northern California. Marc Pratt, a 6-4 guard from Modesto Christian High School, and Aaron Haynes, a 6-5 small forward from Sacramento City College, both signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Broncos during the first day of the early signing period.

“We are extremely happy to get both Aaron and Marc,” Jensen said. “They are both players who should help us be successful in the WAC.”

Pratt helped lead his team to the finals of the state high school championships as a junior while averaging 12 points, nine rebounds, and two assists. He is one of four players on last year’s Modesto Christian team who has committed to play Division 1 basketball. According to NorCalPreps.com, Pratt is best known for his leaping ability. He was also recruited by California, Alabama, Fresno State, and Santa Clara.

“Marc is a great athlete who is playing at one of the top high school programs in the country,” Jensen said. “He’s a perfect two-guard and he’s probably the best athlete we’ve ever recruited here. We feel Marc has the potential to become an all-WAC type of player. He has the ability to get to the rim and should develop into a real good shooter.”

Haynes, Fresno High School graduate, averaged 17.8 points and 9.0 rebounds per game at Sacramento City College and was named first-team all-Bay Valley Conference as a freshman. He was also named the state player of the week twice as a freshman. The first time was after he set a school record for most field goals made without a miss when he went 10-for-10 in a game. His second player of the week honor came in Sacramento City’s double-overtime playoff win over Merced. In that game, Haynes scored a school post-season record 33 points and pulled down a school post-season record 21 rebounds. Haynes was also recruited by Utah State, San Francisco, Pacific, Pepperdine, Long Beach State, and San Jose State.

“Aaron is a slasher who knows how to score,” Jensen said. “He scored in double figures 29 times last year, including scoring more than 30 points three times. Offensively he’s going to really help us.”

The signings of Pratt and Haynes leave the Broncos with three scholarships to fill for next season. Jensen says he plans to wait until after this season before filling the other three.
