Pilgrim's Progress: Update On Team & League
Profiles, Schedules, Etc.--(Nov. 13, 2001)

In case you've checked the Daily Articles lately (and you must have, or you wouldn't be reading this now), you've seen that for the past month or so, we've been posting stories featuring league and team profiles and previews.    We've created an index page for all of these previews, and it's accessible by looking for "H.S. Previews" on the left-hand navigation bar, or you can just scroll through the Daily Articles.    We've also posted the schedules for the LA City Section, and they are accessible also on the left-hand side of the site at all times.

How much progress have we made in this project, and how much more is left to be done?  Here's the word:

CIF-Southern Section:

There are more than 500 teams in the Southern Section of the CIF which play basketball.  It's our goal this year to have posted all of the schedules for each of those teams, and at the very least, rudimentary roster information for each team in each league.    There are something like 77 leagues (actually 80 now that the CIF-SS has created three new basketball leagues this fall).  That's a lot of leagues and teams.

So far we've managed to post schedules and some complete and some incomplete rosters for 44 of the 80 leagues.  Thus far, we've covered, in one fashion or another, about 270 teams.  So we're a little more than halfway finished with the CIF-SS reports.

But we still need a lot more roster information.   If you are a coach, or a player, or just a fan who happes to have good, solid roster information, see if you're team is listed.  If not, then send us the info.   If the info is incorrectly listed, send us the correct stuff.  Either way, let us know.

We'll be posting up the remainder of what we have ready this week.  And then we'll move on to the LA City Section....we hope.

LA City Section:

There are 10 leagues in the LA City Section (including the Magnet Conference), 9 leagues if you count the ones that have teams eligible to compete in the LA City Section Championship, which features the top 16 teams in the City. (The Magnet Conference winner isn't eligible for that post-season tournament, but does get to go to the LA City Section "Invitiational" which feature teams seeded 17-32.)   Those 9 leagues have 49 teams in them that are eligible to play in the City Championship.  In the Magnet Conference, there are only a handful of teams, namely LACES, King-Drew, and maybe one or two others like Foshay, which take basketball seriously enough to even attempt to qualify for post-season play.  So there are about 55 teams in all that we intend to preview and profile.

Again, we have all the schedules for each of the teams in LA City posted.  We don't have any previews yet.  We need rosters.  We will be calling coaches to get them, but if you've ever had to deal with LA City Schools, then you know that's not an easy task.  So, send your rosters in.

San Diego & Central Section

Unlike the Southern and LA City Sections, we've been told by the section offices in Central and San Diego, that each individual school and league coordinator is reponsible for schedules during the season, and that they really only coordinate the playoffs with the Section officials.  Er, um, ok.  What this means is that we won't be posting unified schedules for San Diego or Central Section any time in the near future, if ever.   And likewise, when it comes to team and player profiles, if someone wants to send us material, we'll publish it, but we just don't have the time or resources to go out seeking this info. If it comes our way, we'll be happy to pass it along.
