C-USA: Saint Louis Signs
Ryan Hollins To NLI--(Nov. 15, 2001)

Ok, now that we've covered the West Coast conferences, there are a number of SoCal players who have signed with schools outside the region yesterday.  Among them was Ryan Hollins (6'-11" Sr. F) from Pasadena Muir HS.  Here's the press release issued by the Saint Louis University Billikens Athletic Department:

Ryan Hollins Signs with Billiken Basketball

6-foot-11 forward is quick and athletic

Nov. 14, 2001

St. Louis - Saint Louis University head men's basketball coach Lorenzo Romar today announced that 6-foot-11 forward Ryan Hollins (Pasadena, Calif. / John Muir) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and play basketball for the Billikens. He will have four years of eligibility beginning with the 2002-03 academic year.

"Ryan is a skilled big man with good quickness and an exceptional upside," Romar said. "Our goal is to recruit players with size and the most quickness possible. Ryan fits that mold. He will help us continue in the direction that we want to go, which is to consistently finish in the upper half of Conference USA.

The 17-year-old Hollins is a burgeoning talent who is only in his third year of organized basketball, but is rated as the third-best center on the West Coast by Preps West. He contributed mostly as a reserve during John Muir High School's 26-3 season in 2000-01. Muir had its state title hopes dashed in the California Interscholastic Federation semifinals by state power Redondo High.

Muir head coach Don Grant called Hollins an athlete with unlimited potential, "A couple years from now, people will wonder where Ryan Hollins came from. He isn't a true post-up player, because he plays inside and outside and runs the court so well. He gets better every day, and his future is bright."

Hollins chose Saint Louis over Arizona State, Oregon, Oregon State, Southern Cal and Texas-El Paso.
