WAC: Tulsa Signs 3: Collins,
Price & Wallace--(Nov. 15, 2001)

Tulsa picked up National Letters of Intent from three solid players yesterday, one of them a big-time player (Seneca Collins, a top 300 national player) and the other two excellent but relatively unknown outside their own states (Anthony Price and Chris Wallace), just proving that national reputations and rankings can often be fairly unimportant in the long run.  Here's the official press release:

Tulsa's Phillips Signs Three High School Stars to National
Letters-of-Intent

Two top-15 players from Texas and a local product are added to Golden
Hurricane's roster.

Tulsa, Okla.- - The University of Tulsa Head Basketball Coach John Phillips announced today the signing of three high school players to national letters-of-intent, including two from Texas and one from Oklahoma.

Seneca Collins, a 6'5" guard from Duncanville (Texas) High School, is a three-year high school starter. He averaged 19.7 points as a junior, while adding 4.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists.

Collins has been rated as the fifth-best player in the state of Texas by Texas Hoops magazine. He was a first-team all-region selection, and earned second-team all-state honors. Collins was also the MVP of District 7-5A his junior season while leading Duncanville High School to a 29-6 record and the regional finals. As a sophomore, Collins helped lead his team to a 31-6 mark.

"Seneca can play inside and outside. He is strong and has great athletic ability. He's an excellent three-point shooter, who wants the ball when the game is on the line," said Duncanville Head Coach Phil McNeely.

Anthony Price is a 6'8, 235-pound forward from The Woodlands High School in Texas. The two-year starter averaged 14.0 points, 8.7 rebounds and 3.8 blocked shots during his junior campaign, while also shooting 47-percent from the field.

Price is rated as the 12th best prospect in the state of Texas by Texas Hoops magazine. He earned first-team all-district accolades, and was a preseason third-team all-Greater Houston Area selection.

"Anthony is very athletic. He has not yet reached his full potential. He's a very good low post player, who can also handle the ball pretty well on the perimeter," said Shawn Almond, head coach at The Woodlands.

The one Oklahoman on the signees list is Broken Arrow High School guard Chris Wallace. At 6'2", Wallace is one of the state's top defensive players. Last year, Wallace averaged 11.5 points, 6.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game. He shot 46-percent from the field, while leading his team to a 24-3 record and to the state semifinals.

He had over a 3-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio during his junior season. Wallace earned first-team Frontier Conference merits and was a second-team all-metro performer last year, and is listed as a Tulsa World "Blue Chip" prospect entering his senior season.

"Chris is a great floor leader who is extremely unselfish. He is quick and athletic, and handles the ball well. Chris is a coaches dream. He does all the little things. He'll fit in extremely well at Tulsa," said Broken Arrow High School Coach Rusty Stecker. "Chris is one of the best defensive players in the state."

"We're extremely excited to have these three young men join the Tulsa basketball family," said Phillips. "We were able to address each area of our basketball team - a point guard, perimeter scorer and a low post player.

Chris provides us with a quality ballhandler who is an intense and aggressive defensive player. Seneca can score on the perimeter, but also has the ability to score in the paint, while Anthony will provide us a solid post presence offensively and defensively."
