Westchester's Brandon Heath
Signs NLI With SDSU--(Dec. 6, 2001)
The San Diego Union Tribune picked up on this before the SDSU folks could issue a press release and update their own official website, but it's good news for the Aztecs who can use some great three point shooting, because that's what they're getting with Brandon Heath (6'-2" Sr. G) from Westchester. This now makes four signees for the Westchester Comets this year, with Brandon Bowman signing with Georgetown), Hassan Adams with Arizona, and Ashanti Cook with New Mexico.
Here's the story from the Tribune, published 12/6/01:

Brandon Heath is ranked by Street & Smith Magazine as one of the nation's top 15 high school basketball players. He is ranked as the No. 2 guard on the West Coast. He plays for Los Angeles Westchester High, which is ranked No. 1 nationally and will have at least six players sign Division I-A scholarships this year. And yesterday, Heath made his collegiate choice: San Diego State.
The 6-foot-2 Heath signed a national letter of intent on Nov. 20 and the Aztecs have until Dec. 11 to submit it. Heath, who was recruited by SDSU assistant Marvin Menzies and who chose the Aztecs over Wyoming, made an official visit to SDSU last weekend.
"We are delighted to get an outstanding player and person such as Brandon for our program," said Aztecs coach Steve Fisher. "Brandon gives you a player with the ability to defend and handle the ball and one with great athleticism.
"Mostly, he comes from a winning program, one where players sacrifice statistics for the good of the team."
The Aztecs need to finish the recruiting season with more depth at point guard and Heath is versatile enough to play both backcourt spots.
"A few things stood out to Brandon and our family (about SDSU)," said Bobby Heath, the player's father. "First, Steve Fisher and his résumé as a coach is very impressive. Second, the proximity to home and our ability to go and watch Brandon play college basketball.
"Once we went down there as a family and saw all they had to offer, it was an easy decision. Brandon really felt at home there. He came back with some very genuine feelings about the coaches and players."
SDSU junior guard Tony Bland, a former Westchester standout, also played a big part in the Aztecs landing Heath.
