Santa Margarita Eagle Classic
Set For Tomorrow--(Dec. 3, 2001)

We just heard from Rusty Van Cleave, one of the assistant coaches at Santa Margarita Catholic HS, located in Rancho Santa Margarita, that the Eagle Classic will get underway tomorrow, Tuesday, December 4th at Santa Margarita.  We're not sure whether this is a tournament, or just a one day event (it wasn't listed among the tournaments in the official CIF listing we received, but that's not always correct, so we wouldn't go by that alone). Whatever it is, this is going to be an insteresting lineup of games: 

The first game will be at 6:00 p.m. and will features Mater Dei vs. Carlsbad, followed by Santa Margarita vs. Long Beach Jordan at 7:30 p.m.

The first game will be intriguing, because it will allow for a matchup of arguably one of San Diego's best teams, featuring arguably one of San Diego's best players, Derek Stockalper (6'-5" Sr. G/F) matching up against the best that Mater Dei can throw at them, including senior Mike Strawberry (6'-5" Sr. G/F), and a talented bunch of juniors and sophs, and even a few freshmen.  The second game doesn't look to be as good a matchup, but then everyone always underestimates Ron Massey's Panther teams, and they've got some great young players, not to mention a talented senior in 'Ronald Banks who will be tested by SMCHS' three Division I players.  

If you're down that way, this will surely be something to check out.
