Week 4: National Prep Poll Still Has
Westchester At No. 1--(Dec. 18, 2001)

We just received the fourth week's National Prep Basketball Poll from Jamie DeMoney and Jeremy Plowman.  Interestingly, there are only two teams from Southern California in the top 25 nationally, Westchester and Mater Dei. Here's the poll, along with the regional polls:

The National Prep Basketball Poll is compiled by national high school sports experts Jamie DeMoney and Jeremy Plowman and a panel of sportswriters.  The national Top 25 and regional Top 10's follow with won-loss records:

1. Los Angeles, Westchester (5-0), will defend title at this week's City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

2. Mouth of Wilson, Va., Oak Hill (8-0), has beaten teams from five states

3. Akron, Ohio, St. Vincent-St. Mary (4-0), has beaten three teams that were nationally ranked

4. Jersey City, N.J., St. Anthony (2-0), beat state-ranked Newark, Eastside

FEATS OF THE WEEK: No. 15 Minneapolis, Henry erased a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit to upend No. 22 Chicago, Farragut, 79-73 in overtime. Farragut's Lawrence Poole scored 33 points in a losing effort . . . Briarwood, N.Y., Archbishop Molloy entered the regionally rankings after claiming the Gonzaga DC Classic at American University. The Stanners hammered then-No. 7 Fort Washington, Pa., Germantown Academy, 61-43, in the semifinals and followed it up with a 78-63 win over regionally ranked Houston, Westbury  Christian in the final. Molloy coach Jack Curran also moved to within one of  career victory No. 800 . . . Regionally ranked Corona, Calif., Centennial  took advantage of Santa Ana, Mater Dei's shoddy free-throw shooting to claim  a 65-63 upset win in the finals of the Tournament of Champions at Ocean View   High School. The then-No. 11 Monarchs shot just 50 percent (13 of 26) from the charity stripe for the game including 1-for-8 in the fourth quarter. The game was a rematch of last year's CIF-SS Division I-A championship game, won  by Mater Dei . . . Eric Williams scored 46 points and grabbed 15 rebounds  with four blocks to lead regionally ranked Wake Forest, N.C., Rolesville to a 67-64 win over Durham, Northern. The 6-foot-10 center has signed with Wake Forest University.
