Week 2: National Prep Poll Still Have
Westchester At No. 1--(Dec. 4, 2001)
We just received the second week's National Prep Basketball Poll from Jamie DeMoney and Jeremy Plowman. Interestingly, there are only two teams from Southern California in the top 25 nationally, Westchester and Mater Dei. Here's the poll, along with the regional polls:

SV-SM junior star LeBron James, arguably the best player in the nation, scored 38 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Irish to a 70-64 win. Florida recruit Matt Walsh scored 24 to lead the Patriots . . . Travis Garrison returned from a preseason ankle injury to lead regionally ranked Hyattsville, Md., DeMatha to a 63-59 win over regionally ranked Amityville, N.Y., in the Morgan Wootten Classic at the University of Maryland's Cole Fieldhouse. The 6-foot-9 Maryland recruit scored 20 points to go with 11 rebounds. But he was still overshadowed by Amityville's Villanova recruit, Jason Fraser, who recorded game highs of 22 points and 21 boards . . . Regionally ranked Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Dillard downed cross-town rival St. Thomas Aquinas, 57-52, in an early battle between the reigning kings of Broward County basketball. Brothers Jimmy and Brandon Tobias combined for 27 points and 17 rebounds to lead the victorious Panthers . . . Howard West, head coach of No. 16 Winston-Salem, N.C., Reynolds, earned his 500th coaching victory during a 99-67 win over Parkland.
