@ Utah Valley State

Long Beach Poly 45, Utah Riverton 20-- Senior point guard Carlos Rivers led the scoring for Poly with 16 points, and senior forward Bobby Jones had 12 points, in a slow-down game in which Riverton's strategy was to stall and hold the ball.  Utah does not play with a shot clock. The tactic didn't work though as Riverton made only 2 of 21 three-pointers attempted.  For Poly, Mike Roche added 8 points and 4 rebounds. Senior center McCade Olsen led Riverton with 14 points. Olsen was 0-for-5 from three point range. But poor offensive execution in the latter half of the third quarter, along with the shaky defense, doomed the Bengals to their second defeat.  Ed Pepple, in his 45th year as Mercer Island's coach, said his team played so poorly in the first half that he changed his lineup for the second half and it paid dividends.  Brandon Burmeister was Mercer Island's catalyst in the second half, scoring 16 points after a six-point first half.
