1st Annual Westchester HS Varsity
Classic: Schedules & Brackets--(Dec. 3, 2001)

westchesterlogo.gif (8470 bytes) What: 1st Annual Westchester Varsity Classic Tournament
When: Dec. 4-8, 2001
Where: Westchester HS
7400 Manchester Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90045
Who: 8 Top-Ranked Teams From SoCal

Here's a reminder about the Westchester Tournament which starts tomorrow:

There's little doubt that the LA City Section this year has some of the best teams in SoCal, and indeed the entire country.  There's also very little doubt that with players like Hassan Adams, Brandon Heath, Keith Everage, Ashanti Cook, Scott Cutley, and others, Westchester HS is arguably among the top 10 teams in the country this year.   So it's only fitting that Westchester will choose to stay home early and host its own tournament this year, inviting some of the other top teams in the region in for a little party.

Who else is coming?  Here's the list: Fairfax, Pasadena, Compton Dominguez, San Diego Horizon, LA Locke, Washington, Hawthorne,  and of course, Westchester.  Sounds like a nice, small 8-team tournament.  Very nice.....

The tournament will start on December 4 and 5, with a series of "play in" or "out of bracket" games, meaning that these won't count towards the tournament championship, but will just be a warmup (we're guessing that what happened with this is that the tournament was originally planned as a 16-team tournament, but given other commitments from other top schools in the region, Ed Azzam & staff decided to trim it back to just 8 teams).  Here's the schedule for the first two days of play, which again, don't count towards the finals:

Tuesday, December 4, 2001
5:00 p.m.   Fairfax vs Pasadena
6:30 p.m.   Dominguez vs Horizon

Wednesday, December 5, 2001
5:00 p.m.   Washington vs Hawthorne
6:30 p.m.   Locke vs Westchester

The actual tournament play schedule (i.e., games that "count") starts on December 6, 2001, and is as follows:

Thursday, December 6, 2001
3:00 p.m.   Hawthorne vs Westchester (Game 1)
6:15 p.m.   Dominguez vs Pasaadena (Game 2)
4:30 p.m   Washington vs Fairfax (Game 3)
7:45 p.m.   Locke vs Horizon (Game 4)

The rest of the tournament schedule really won't make sense unless you see it on a bracket.  Here's what it looks like:
