The Indiana Basketball Association, which is sometimes known as the Spiece Gym Rats, will be holding their 8th Annual Spiece Run n' Slam All Star Classic this coming weekend at the Spiece Fieldhouse, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The tournament runs from May 4 - 6, 2001, and it will feature 48 teams from all over the country in the boys' "senior to be" division, 32 teams in the "juniors to be" division, and 24 teams in the sophomore division, making a total of 104 teams descending on Fort Wayne from all over. Among the teams coming from SoCal to Ft. Wayne this weekend will be the Pump N Run team, the Paladins, and two teams of Rockfish (the "LA Rockfish" and the "Rockfish Orcas"). We'll feature some news, notes and rosters for each of these teams.
This article features the Rockfish team rosters for the Spiece tournament. We didn't have the time to locate photos for all of these guys in our archives, so we've used a few of our older originals and also borrowed a couple from Pac-WestHoops (hope they don't mind). . . and anyway, Mark Mayemura told us he'd be e-mailing current photos to us in time for this story to be posted on Tuesday night, so the fact that we don't have them is something you can just blame him. . .We'll update the missing photos from Indiana with some more recent vintage shots over the weekend.
Another note about the Rockfish teams listed below: These are not necessarily going to be the same rosters that you'll see at other tournaments this spring or this summer, including the Mats' Madness tournament in Fresno over Memorial Day. . . Rockfish, specifically the No. 1 "LA Rockfish" team has at least three guys missing for various reasons: Donald Wilson (injured heel), Bryant Markson (injured knee) are two players who won't be at the Spiece tourney, and likewise, Ryan O'Hara will be MIA as well (he's one of the top football quarterback prospects on the West Coast, and he'll be at a football combine this weekend. . . by the way, O'Hara has indeed officially transferred and is now at Muir HS). The rosters for the Rockfish will be adjusted for Fresno, since Mark tells us that he and Dave will probably take four teams to the Memorial Day events, and then again they'll be adjusted for the Big Time Tournament in Las Vegas and for the Pump's Best of Summer which follows to conclude the summer recruiting evaluation period. . . .so none of these rosters is set in stone, but it's who you'll see at the tournament this weekend in Indiana.
