Not to be left behind by the organizers of the big showcase events (the ones that matchup teams from all over at a single location on a single day),  some of the top coaches and schools are starting to figure out that it might be a good thing to stage all-day events where teams get to compete in a "big-time" arena atmosphere, something resembling a playoff environment, while also making it easier for college coaches and scouts to watch multiple games with a minimum of travel,  something that is not an unimportant consideration given what the NCAA has done to recruiting by gutting the spring and fall, and stressing "in-season" recruiting.  Of course there are those who say that these types of events take away the essence of what high school basketball is all about: The home-crowds, the home-court advantage, playing on a Friday night, etc....Really, are you going to get the same kind of atmosphere for a 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning game in a big arena as you would in a small band-box gym?

Whatever, there are pros and cons to everything, and this is no exception.  But it's also a very good excuse to get up early in the morning and head out to Azusa to watch some very good league competition.   Here's the schedule of games:

Admission to the event is $7 for adults, and students and children $3;  presumably that price is good for the whole day, but don't hold us to that one....
