We just received a press release of sorts for this event, (which by the way is not to be confused in any manner with the McDonald's All-American Game) so pardon us for being a bit late in getting the word out on the 2nd Annual McDonald's Invitational,  a one-day a series of individual high school games (including a couple of league games) which will take place this weekend, specifically Saturday, at Pasadena City College.  Here's the lineup:

12:00 p.m.

Artesia v. Harvard-Westlake

2:00 p.m.

Loyola v. Chaminade

4:00 p.m.

Monrovia v. Pasadena

5:30 p.m.

LA Fremont v. Bishop Montgomery

7:00 p.m.

Fresno Clovis West v. Muir

8:30 p.m.

Glendora v. La Canada

Here's more of the actual text of the press release that we received from Charlie Plowman, who has helped to organize the event.

Clovis West High of Fresno (17-2), ranked No. 1 in Northern California by Cal-Hi Sports, will play undefeated Muir High (17-0) of Pasadena at 7 p.m. in this Saturday's 2nd Annual McDonald's Invitational at Pasadena City College. Muir is ranked No. 12 in the state and No. 1 in CIF-SS Division III-A, and features Saint Louis University signee Ryan Hollins (6'-11" Sr. F). This will be Clovis West's only appearance in Southern California this year outside of the State Playoffs, and once again, the Eagles are the dominant team in their division in the Central Section, featuring standout forward Nick Debban (6'-5" Sr. F), who led all scorers this year at the adidas Las Vegas Big Time.

Other games are Artesia (No. 2 in III-AA by SoCal Hoops) vs. Harvard-Westlake (No. 2 in IV-AA) at 12 noon.  Another potentially a high-scoring matchup between Loyola (No. 5 in I-A) and Chaminade (No. 3 in IV-AA) at 2 p.m.;  Monrovia (No. 11 in III-AA) vs. Pasadena (No. 17 in II-AA by SoCal Hoops) at 4 p.m.;  L.A. Fremont (formerly No. 2 in L.A. Times Southland poll) vs. Bishop Montgomery (No. 3 in III-A) at 5:30;  Fresno Clovis West (No. 1 in Northern California by Cal-Hi Sports) vs. Muir (No. 1 in III-A) at 7 p.m.; and  Glendora (No. 1 in I-A) vs. La Canada (No. 4 in III-A) at 8:30 p.m.

These should be some very interesting matchups and will be well worth the time spent.  For those who haven't been to Pasadena City College, its a great venue for an event like this, not exactly an arena setting (like APU or the Bren Center), but it's large and the floor is great with plenty of seating.

We're not sure about the admission charge, but it should be nominal.  If you have questions, please feel free to e-mail Charlie Plowman at csplowman@earthlink.net.

See you there.
