We just heard from Steve Kasper, the publicity guru for the Nike Extravaganza VII which will be held this weekend at the Pyramid at Long Beach State who tells us that Adelphia Communications has agreed to carry an internet radio broadcast of the Long Beach Poly v. St. Louis Vashon game, as well as the featured game of the evening, No. 1 Oak Hill v. Mater Dei. The broadcast will be available at this link, so check there on Saturday night if you can't make it out to the Pyramid or if you are trying to listen from, say, St. Louis.... Here's the link for the internet broadcast, so be sure to check it out if you can't make it to the games. And there's still a possibility that more games will be added to the broadcast schedule so you might even try the link earlier in the evening just to see....
And speaking of getting into the event, don't wait until the last minute. This event is usually a sell-out and while the Pyramid is definitely a little more spacious than most arenas in the area, it too has a finite capacity, and eventually, like last year, the fire marshalls will shut the doors and anyone without a ticket will be out of luck. Hey, just ask those folks who got to spend the evening in the parking lot three years ago at Cal State Fullerton how much fun they had trying to see Oak Hill play Dominguez from the parking lot....
Tickets for the event are $8 for the morning session and $20 and $10 for the evening session. Tickets can be obtained form the Long Beach Pyramid box office or the Mater Dei Athletic office, or they can be purchased online at the Long Beach State official website. You'll need to purchase separate tickets for the afternoon and the evening sessions (they will close the building in between sessions and sweep the stands, so you'll be asked to leave if you don't go nicely...), but it's well worth it.
Here's the actual schedule of games that people have been asking us for:
Morning-Afternoon Session
Westminster vs Glendora - 8:30am
Costa Mesa vs Servite - 10:00am
Brea vs Valley Center - 11:30 am
St. John Bosco vs Ocean View - 1:00pm
Afternoon-Evening Session
Corona Centenial vs Sonora - 3:00pm
Santa Margarita vs Green Vally - 4:30pm
Villa Park vs Crenshaw - 6:00pm
Long Beach Poly vs. Vashon (St. Louis) - 7:30pm
Mater Dei vs Oak Hill Academy - 9:00pm
The ticket price also includes half-time entertainment including the ever-popular "balloon man" (if you haven't seen this you're in for a surprise), national all-star cheerleaders and other exciting activities.
See you there.
