The heart of high school basketball season has begun, and teams are for the most part playing league games, the second season within a season. Here's what we know, gathered from reports sent to us from team representatives, coaches, players and parents, as well as what we've been able to gather from local newspapers and websites. If you know of a game that we missed, a score that is unreported, or some details that we're missing, send it in via e-mail.

La Sierra Academy 89, CSDR 41--Junior forward Jean Pierre Bullon scored 10 points in the first quarter to help give Riverside La Sierra Academy a 22-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, en route to a Arrowhead League victory over California School for the Deaf, Riverside. Bay League
North Torrance 102, Mira Costa 99 (3 OT) --Kenny
Brown scored 13 of his 33 points in overtime for North Torrance (10-5, 2-2). Greg
Geier scored 11 of his school-record 45 points in overtime for visiting Mira Costa (8-8,
2-2). Geier hit a three-pointer at end of regulation and another at the end of the first
overtime force double overtime. Daniel William of Mira Costa then hit a three-pointer at
the buzzer to send it into a third overtime.
Inglewood 69, Morningside 65--DeAngelo Collins returned after a two-game absence because of a wrist injury to help Inglewood (13-2, 3-0) defeat arch-rival Morningside on the road. Collins had 18 points and six rebounds, Jason McKinney added 14 points and Jonathan Joshua added 12 points as Inglewood held off a late-charging Morningside (3-10, 0-4). Alan Goodwin led all scorers with 27 points and Vic Olade added 11 in the loss.
North Torrance 102, Mira Costa 99 (3 OT) --Kenny Brown scored 13 of his 33 points in overtime for North Torrance (10-5, 2-2). Greg Geier scored 11 of his school-record 45 points in overtime for visiting Mira Costa (8-8, 2-2). Geier hit a three-pointer at end of regulation and another at the end of the first overtime force double overtime. Daniel William of Mira Costa then hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to send it into a third overtime. Kenny Brown and Alec Gilliland each hit key 3-pointers in the third overtime as the Saxons won. North held a double-digit lead for most of the game, but the Mustangs stormed back. Geier forced the first overtime with a 3-pointer at the buzzer. Rocky Ciasulli drilled a 3-pointer as time expired to force the second overtime and Daniel William converted a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to force the third overtime. Jason Davis contributed 13 points and 17 rebounds for North (10-5, 2-2). Jarrod Carroll also scored 13 points. Keisuke Yoshida and Jun Senesac each tacked on 10 points and Travon Herd grabbed 12 rebounds. Ciasulli finished with 14 points for Mira Costa (9-8, 2-2). Mike Murphy and Austin Jefferson each netted nine points for the Mustangs.
Redondo Union 63, Leuzinger 40 --Adam Zahn scored 13 points and nine rebounds for host Redondo Union (11-5, 4-0). Redondo used a balanced attack in a dominant home performance. Keith Ellison had 12 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals. Wendell White had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. Eddie Topps scored 11 points and had four rebounds and four steals. Darrell Street had 14 points, seven rebounds and four blocks for Leuzinger (5-10, 0-4). Dorell Wright had 11 points and six rebounds. Billy Stone had 10 points.
Camino Real League
Mary Star 60, Cantwell Sacred Heart 57 --Jeff Fiamengo scored 19 points and seven assists for host Mary Star (6-10, 1-0). Don De La Garza, Paul Kallimanis and Richard Chavez each had 11 points for Cantwell Sacred-Heart (5-10, 0-1). Jeff Philips had 13 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block for Mary Star.
St. Monica 70, St. Anthony 41 --Hampton Nunley had 14 points and Brandon Cruz 13 for visiting St. Monica (6-10, 1-0).
Channel League
Ventura 63, Buena 59 --Freshman Colin Campbell scored

The Royals survived a layup off a tipped pass as time
expired in regulation and held on to win in overtime despite sophomore Taylor Rochestie
scoriung 22 points for Santa Barbara (9-9, 1-1), including five three-pointers. Aaron
Mercer led San Marcos with 20 points. Mercer scored 12 of his team-high 20 in the first
half. Santiago Aguirre finished with 19 points and Dante Bogan had 12 for the Dons. Seamus
McKiernan scored 13 points and had five rebounds while Asher Kupperman added 12 points and
Duane Fortune scored 14 for San Marcos (10-6, 2-0).

Beaumont 63, San Jacinto 62 -- With Beaumont trailing 62-61 with three seconds left to play, junior forward David Dopp shook his defender off of a pick and made a jumper at the buzzer to win a De Anza League game against San Jacinto. With San Jacinto leading 48-36 to start the fourth, Dustin Hackney and Billy Koumparis scored eight points each to help bring Beaumont back into the game. Del Rey League
Bishop Amat 65, St. Bernard 62 --Paul Porter had 20 points and John Haywood added 19 to lead visiting Bishop Amat (14-4, 1-1), which outscored St. Bernard by 10 in the fourth quarter, 19-9. Bruce Bevans had 22 points to lead St Bernard (7-13, 0-2). Rocky Hinds had 14 points and 14 rebounds for St. Bernard.
Serra 63, St. Paul 39 --Eugene Jeter scored 26 points and Jeffrey Arnold added eight for host Serra (17-2, 2-0). Jeter also had four assists and three steals as Serra topped the Swordsmen (11-9, 0-2) at Serra. Chris Hemphill collected eight points and eight rebounds.
Del Rio League
El Rancho 61, Santa Fe 43 --Francis Chiong had 13 points to lead host El Rancho (6-10, 1-0).
Pioneer 59, California 53 --David Ochoa scored 15 points for Pioneer (2-11, 1-0). Matt Amido had 33 points for California (2-13, 0-1). Ricky Parnell added 11 for Pioneer.
Whittier 59, La Serna 47-- Whittier improved to 12-3, 1-0, as the Cardinals beat perennial league power La Serna (8-10, 0-1) behind 10 fourth quarter points from Mike Hernandez. Danny Carlos scored 10 points as well. Richard Perretta led the Lancers with 12 points, Wes Carty had 11 and Dustin Zuber added 10. Carty, who had three 3-pointers, scored the Lancers' first eight points of the fourth quarter.
Empire League
Cypress 67, Katella 60--Matt Reid had 29 points, 14 in the second quarter, and Dominique Ricks had 16 points for visiting Cypress (13-4, 1-0). Katella is 10-6, 0-1.
Loara 75, El Dorado 70 (2 OT) --Chad Lozano's 18-footer with 28 seconds remaining in the second overtime broke a 70-70 tie and gave host Loara (14-3, 1-0) the lead for good. Bryce Sheldon led the Saxons with 20 points, Del Dean had 15 and Lozano finished with 14 points. David Patten led all scorers with 31 points for El Dorado (14-3, 0-1). The Saxons scored the final 12 points of the fourth quarter and went on to win in double overtime.
Express League
Eastside Christian 54, Southland Christian 35-- T.J. Fakehinde collected 11 steals O'Neil Cousins tallied 17 rebounds for Eastside Christian (2-10, 1-0). Southlands Christian is 0-11, 0-1.
Freedom League
Rio Rancho 54, Masada 36--Corona Rio Rancho junior forward Kevin Tyler had 11 points and 11 rebounds in a Freedom Leauge game. Marvel Spencer scored 12 points for visiting Rio Rancho (8-4, 8-4). Buena Park 60, Fullerton 40 --DeAndre Robinson had 16 points and eight rebounds and Brandon Sims had 16 points and seven assists for host Buena Park (13-4, 1-0). Geo Villaboa had 15 points for Fullerton (12-6, 0-1).
Sunny Hills 64, Troy 60 (3 OT) --Clay Carmody's 29 points and 10 rebounds and Tony Gonzalez's 15 points and 14 rebounds led the host Lancers (14-4, 1-0). Troy hit buzzer-beaters at the end of regulation and each of the first two overtimes to extend the game, but Sunny Hills ultimately hung on to win at home. Nate Gilkes had 22 points for Troy (8-9, 0-1).
Garden Grove League
Bolsa Grande 55, Pacifica 44 --Omar Amaral led Bolsa Grande (12-5, 3-0) with 27 points and five steals. David Doan added 17 points and eight rebounds for Bolsa Grande. Pacifica (8-10, 3-1) got 13 points from Jason Brock. Bolsa Grande and Pacifica were tied for first place going into the game. Beating Pacifica kept Bolsa Grande in first place, which the Matadors share with Los Amigos. Amaral scored five more than his average, on an assortment of drives and outside shots, and was 9 for 11 from the free-throw line. He scored Bolsa Grande's first 10 points, and finished the quarter with 12. Doan scored seven in the first quarter and made all four of his free throws in the fourth.
Los Amigos 63, Garden Grove 36 --Hector Degante scored 20 points for Los Amigos (9-9, 3-0). Garden Grove is 1-2 in league.
Golden West League
Saddleback 34, Westminster 26--The Roadrunners (6-18, 2-0) took an eight-point lead in the first quarter and held on at home to retain sole possession of first place.
High Desert League
Rosamond 100, Frazier Mountain 54 --Robert Landaverde had 21 points and Craig Tunnell added 18 points and 12 assists for visiting Rosamond (11-4, 3-0). Frazier Mountain is 2-12, 0-3.
Hi-Lo League
Big Pine 66, Lee Vining 46 --details not immediately available.

Paso Robles 72, Atascadero 62 --Carton Wilder scored 21 points for Paso Robles (11-4, 2-0). Mecklen Davis scored 18 points for host Atascadero (8-7, 1-1).
Santa Ynez 62, St. Joseph's 57 -- Stu Kussler had 22 points for St. Joseph's. Four players scored in double figures for the visiting Pirates. Santa Ynez (6-9, 1-1) was led by UCLA-signee Matt McKinney with 20 points while Jeff Urton compiled 15 points, Sutton Clark added 11 and Aaron Richman finished with 10. Reid Ritchie had 30 points to lead Desert Chapel (5-4, 0-2).Riverside Christian established a 18-14 lead at the end of the first quarter and maintained its lead throughout the game to earn a Metro League win over Palm Springs Desert Chapel. Miramonte League
Los Altos 59, Diamond Ranch 54 --Glenn Phillips had 18 points to lead Los Altos (9-8, 1-0), which had a 14-1 run in the fourth quarter, sparked by Dylan Rogers' consecutive three-pointers. Richard Coombs had 16 points to lead Diamond Ranch (9-6, 0-1).
Wilson (Hacienda Heights) 54, Garey 49-- Dontay Holloway converted a three-point play with about 30 seconds remaining to snap a 49-49 tie to send the Wildcats (10-6, 1-0) to a victory at Garey (4-13, 0-1). Osaar Rasshan had 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Vikings, while Holloway led Wilson with 21 points.
Pomona 53, Charter Oak 44--Pomona's Odell Howard scored 33 points and pulled down 15 rebounds in leading the visiting Red Devils to a 53-44 victory over the Chargers in the Miramonte League opener for both teams. The Red Devils led 14-11 after the first quarter and 26-20 at halftime. Howard then took control, scoring 23 points over the final 16 minutes. He quickly built Pomona's lead to 32-22 by scoring four consecutive field goals over a two-minute stretch to begin the third quarter. But the Chargers, who last year rallied for a victory over the Red Devils (12-5, 1-0) to capture the Miramonte League championship, countered with a 6-0 run and cut the advantage to 34-29 after senior forward Charlie Dunajski scored on a layup with 3:31 remaining in the quarter. Pomona responded with a 3-pointer from Norman Fletcher and a layup and two free throws from Howard to make it 42-31 after three quarters. Howard scored 13 points in the quarter. Charter Oak received 14 points from Dunajski and 13 from junior forward Michael Harris, and 11 from Sharif Elkhaldy, opened the quarter with a 9-2 blitz and cut the deficit to 44-40 with just under five minutes remaining. Harris scored nine of his 13 points in the fourth quarter.
Mission League
Chaminade 77, Crespi 69 --Allan Ellis scored 27 points for Crespi (8-9, 2-2).
Loyola 86, St. Francis 52 --Omar Wilkes scored 22 points and Joshua Flynn-Brown added 17 for for host Loyola (12-3, 1-1).
Notre Dame 61, Alemany 58 --Sean Djernes scored 18 points for Notre Dame (6-11, 2-1).
Mission Valley League
Arroyo 56, Gabrielino 48 --Kevin Zhang had 17 points for visiting Arroyo (7-10, 1-0). Sean Carey had 20 points for Gabrielino (8-8, 0-1).
Mountain View 47, Rosemead 43 --Efrain Caudillo had 30 points for visiting Mountain View (6-9, 1-0). Albert Cardona had 24 points for Rosemead. Caudillo made six 3-pointers
Montview League
Bassett 56, Azusa 53 --Sal Rios had a steal and made a layup with 42 seconds left to break a 53-53 tie and give Bassett (2-13, 1-0) the victory. Ivan Velasco had 15 points for Bassett, which has won two straight after starting the season at 0-13. Azusa fell to 3-12, 0-1.
Duarte 55, Gladstone 51 --Randall Greene had 20 points for host Duarte (5-9, 1-0). Rendy Louhenapessy had 17 points, including four three-pointers, for Gladstone.
Workman 65, La Puente 57 --Bruno Acevedo finished with 32 points and five assists for the victorious Lobos. (7-7, 1-0). Conrad Alvera scored 21 points for La Puente (7-8, 0-1).
Moore League
Lakewood 64, Millikan 60--Lakewood (13-1, 2-0) surpassed its win total of last season when it finished 12-14 and sixth out of seven teams in league at 4-8. Senior guard Tyrell McLaurin scored 33 points, including three free throws in the final 14.9 seconds to help hold off a late comeback by Millikan (9-6, 1-1). John Wegner scored 13 points, 11 in the first half and teammate Jemarco Scott contributed 7 points off the bench. Ryan Hynes paced Millikan with 15 points with Melvin Nicholson and Iren Anderson adding 10 and 9 points each. El Segundo vs. South Torrance --The result of this game has not been made official, according to El Segundo coach Rick Sabowsky. Dashawn Strong scored the final points of the game with 3.9 seconds left to give El Segundo a 48-47 victory, according to the scoreboard. However, at the end of the game, the scorebooks of both teams had South Torrance leading, 47-46. However, if the coaches for both teams cannot agree on the final score, Sabowsky said that Ocean League officials would have to rule on the outcome of the game. We've done a separate analysis of what we believe the correct ruling should have been, but we'll have to await the official outcome.
Torrance 54, Beverly Hills 51 --Lance Keys and Ryan Crespin each scored 13 points for Torrance (7-9, 2-2). Isaac Aftalion scored 27 points for Beverly Hills. Torrance had a nine-point lead late in the game, but Beverly Hills (6-10, 0-4) made back-to-back 3-point baskets before Marshawn Williams made his fifth steal of the game to give the visiting Tartars the win. Santa Margarita 68, St. John Bosco 60 --Cornell-bound Lenny Collins had 28 points (14 in the first quarter) and seven rebounds to lead Santa Margarita (17-1, 1-0). Travis Smith added 16 points and eight assists. Giovanni St. Amant had 30 points for 19 St. John Bosco (16-3, 0-1) St. Amant scored 16 of his game-high 30 points in the third quarter as St. John Bosco, which trailed by as many as 12 points in the period, cut its deficit to 48-43 entering the final quarter. The Braves missed 12 of the 14 shots they attempted in the fourth quarter, and Santa Margarita held them without a field goal until junior Kenny Taylor scored on a layup with 46 seconds to play. St. Amant, who shot 10 of 19 from the field and also had 10 rebounds, was hounded relentlessly by senior guard Hayden Socci in the final eight minutes and didn't get his first field-goal attempt until only 2:44 remained and his team trailing, 61-48. Rowland 60, Ayala 50--Larry Tieu scored 19 points for host Rowland (12-5, 1-0). Tieu hit eight of his 12 shots and his teammates followed suit as Rowland made 20 of 33 shots from the field. Justin Davenport led the Bulldogs (8-7, 0-1) with 20 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Rowland point guard Adam Wong scored nine points, including five in the decisive fourth quarter, and dished out seven assists. The Raiders improved to 12-5 and continue league play when they visit Diamond Bar High School on Friday night. Danny Stephens and Kyle Gregory combined for 23 points for Ayala, which will try to get its first league victory on Friday when it travels to West Covina High School. Senior forward Shon Pruitt scored 12 points before fouling out late in the fourth quarter for Rowland.

Gardena 76, Banning 73 --Isaac Thurman scored 21
points for host Gardena (7-5, 1-0). Joey Saavedra scored 25 points for
Banning (8-3, 0-1). Ramone Prescotte made a 35-foot basket at the buzzer to complete a
come-from-behind victory for host Gardena (7-5, 1-0). Prescotte finished with 19 points.
Corey Evans had 12 points and six rebounds and Jeffrey Bryant added 11 points. Joey
Saavedra l ed Banning (0-1 in league) with 25 points, including seven 3-point baskets.
Roderick Perry added 21 and Hytham Adeb had 14.
Narbonne 69, Washington 59 --Reggie Simms had 23
points, 19 in the second half, to lead host Narbonne (10-5, 1-0). Sims had six
three-pointers. Beto Delgado finished with 14 points and nine assists, and Uzoma
Mmeje collected 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists to help knock off the defending
league champs.
Northern League
Marshall 68, Lincoln 34 --John Dayrit had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Marshall (3-13, 1-0). Alonso Vasquez scored 14 points and Rusty Pidkova added nine points and 12 rebounds for Marshall, which led, 34-13, at halftime.

Canoga Park 73, Verdugo Hills 59 --Senior guard Maurice Neal scored 23 points to lead visiting Canoga Park (3-11, 1-0). Daniel Dingman had 19 points for Verdugo Hills (4-11, 0-1).
Grant 82, Hollywood 76 --Junior guard Gino Riney scored 35 points to lead visiting Grant (9-7, 1-0). Jonathan Ruzan had 30 points and seven steals and Dominique Willis had 24 points for Hollywood (6-9, 0-1).

points for North Hollywood (8-8, 1-0). Emilio Sandoval scored 15

Reseda 70, Van Nuys 50 --Sergei Lepashinski scored 18 of his 22 points in the second half for host Reseda (8-3). The Regents led, 29-15, at halftime.
San Fernando 62, Monroe 36 --Donte Jenkins had 26 points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots for San Fernando (7-9, 1-0).
Sylmar 71, Kennedy 41 --Sam Harris scored 19 points and Jeff Morse added 17 points and 12 rebounds for Sylmar (9-5, 1-0). Markeith Wheeler had 17 points for Kennedy (8-8). Frank Robinson did not play, sitting out with an ankle injury.
West Valley League
Cleveland 71, Birmingham 52 --Nick Young had 21 points and eight rebounds to lead Cleveland (8-7, 1-0). Cleveland's Casey Bednash had 15 points and seven rebounds. Birmingham fell to 5-6, 0-1.
El Camino Real 76, Granada Hills 72 (OT) --Rai Colston had 25 points, including 10 in overtime, for visiting El Camino Real (7-8, 1-0). Colston was 8-8 from the line in overtime. Mike Castaneda had 29 points to lead Granada Hills (7-8, 0-1). Colston, a 5-foot-7 point guard, added three steals and seven assists.

Westchester 92, Venice 28 --Arizona signee Hassan Adams scored 18 points and seven steals to lead Westchester (13-1, 3-0), which led, 45-12, at halftime. San Diego State signee Brandon Heath added 17 points and six assists, and unsigned senior Keith Everage and junior Trevor Ariza each had 12.
