The heart of high school basketball season has begun, and teams are for the most part playing league games, the second season within a season. Here's what we know, gathered from reports sent to us from team representatives, coaches, players and parents, as well as what we've been able to gather from local newspapers and websites. If you know of a game that we missed, a score that is unreported, or some details that we're missing, send it in via e-mail.

Agape League
Antelope Valley Christian 62, Bethel Christian 32 --AV Christian (10-5, 2-0) was led by Phillip Okonma who scored 18 points.
Arrowhead League
Boys Republic 71, Ambassador Christian 54 --John Flanagan scored 33 points for Boys Republic (7-1, 3-0). Flanagan also had six steals, while Jamaal Magee had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Boys Republic. Brandon Guiden led Ambassador with 15 points. The Rams led 40-37 at the end of the third quarter before going on a 17-11 run in the fourth quarter to give them the victory.
La Verne Lutheran 81, CSDR 70--Brandon Theus had 27 points, eight rebounds and nine assists, David Beckect had 25 points and six rebounds, and John Harmon had 11 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks for La Verne Lutheran (6-3, 2-0). Christian League
Loma Linda 62, Arrowhead Christian 61 --Sophomore Chris Purdum scored Loma Linda's (10-4) game winning basket on a driving layup with eight seconds to play in the fourth quarter. Purdum was also the game's high scorer with 19 points. Arrowhead Christian (2-1, 10-3) -- Goltry 19, Breckley 14, Cloud 9, Britt 8, Benson 5, Johnson 4, Lewis 2. Loma Linda Academy (2-2, 10-4) -- Purdom 19, Valdez 13, Prior 12, Rivinius 7, Nelson 6, Stottlemyer 3, Newby 2. Halftime score -- Loma Linda Academy 38-31. Ontario Christian 59, Calvary Chapel Murrieta 52 --Tied 37-37 after three quarters, Ontario Christian made 7 of 11 free throws down the stretch to pull away for a Christian League win. Greg Talon scored 16 points for visiting Ontario Christian (13-3, 3-1). Trailing by three points at the end of the third quarter, Ontario Christian went on a 17-7 run in the fourth quarter to secure the win. Travis Hoekstra scored seven of his 11 points in the fourth quarter for Ontario Christian. Calvary Chapel was led by Ryan Evans, who scored 25 points. At Murrieta, the Warriors (8-7, 0-3)led throughout most of the game, but scored only five points in the fourth quarter which allowed the Knights to get the win. Noah Denny had 10 points for Calvary Chapel and Luke Wilkerson added 11. Ontario Christian (3-1) -- Belko 12, Talen 16, Hoekstra 8, Velasco 3, Garcia 6, Travis 3, Gabriels 3, Vandenberg 8. Western Christian 43, Woodcrest Christian 35-- Covina Western Christian outscored Woodcrest Christian 13-6 in the third quarter to pull away with a Christian League victory over Woodcrest Christian.. Montclair Prep 70, Campbell Hall 39 --Nick Stiggers scored 21 points and Marco Bozovjic added 15 points for Montclair Prep (7-9,2-0).
Express League
Eastside Christian 34, Pioneer Baptist 22--T.J. Fakehinde had 11 points and Andrew Sanchez had nine points for host Eastside Christian (3-10, 2-0). Pioneer Baptist is 1-9, 0-1.
Freedom League
Los Pinos 77, Twin Pines 51 --Joe Rivera had 17 points and 12 assists for Lake Elsinore Los Pinos in Freedom League play. Matthew Smith had 18 points and Erik Snow had 17 points for host Los Pinos (4-0, 2-0). Whitewater 71, Masada 55--Lewis Haywood scored 26 points, including 7-of-7 from 3-point range, to lead Whitewater to its 12th straight victory. High Desert League
Kern Valley 78, Vasquez 31--Ryon Dierck scored 14
points and had eight rebounds for host Kern Valley (8-6, 1-3). Vasquez
is 0-4 in league.
Rosamond 65, Mojave 57 --Robert Landaverde scored 22 points for Rosamond (12-4, 4-0), on 6-10 shooting from three point range. Brian Stevenson scored 17 points for Mojave (6-7, 3-1). The Roadrunners entered Thursday night's game at Mojave having scored at least 100 points in wins over Vasquez, Frazier Mountain and Kern Valley. Even though they fell 35 points short against Mojave, they got the win and took sole possession of first place in league. Rosamond senior center Brandon Murray scored 19 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Jamar Foster had 12 for the Mustangs, and Rosamond point guard Craig Tunnell finished with 10 points and seven assists. Charles Burton and Travis Hunsaker both pulled down six rebounds for Rosamond.
International League
Mesrobian 96, Pacific Christian 46 --Mikhail Bursalian scored 43 points and added 20 rebounds for visiting Mesrobian (3-2, 1-1). Pacific Christian is 0-2 in league.
Ivy League
Canyon Springs 72, Arlington 57 --Junior guard Tron Smith scored 30 points, pulled down nine rebounds and had six assists and eight steals to lead Moreno Valley Canyon Springs past Riverside Arlington in Ivy League play. Canyon Springs (2-0, 13-6) -- Smith 30, McGee 13, Arnwine 8, Adams 4, Woods 4, James 9, Hughes 4. Arlington (1-1, 7-11) -- Simon 11, Holguin 20, Acosta 8, Orduno 7, Lefotu 6, Miller 2, Arellano 2, McGhee 1. Halftime score -- Canyon Springs 38-19. Liberty League
Buckley 63, Providence 56 --Senior point guard David Gale had 19 points, 17 of them in the first half, and five steals, 8 assists and 5 rebounds for Buckley (9-3, 3-0) as the Griffins withstood a 24 point second half shooting spree by Providence's senior shooting guard Hourot Messrelian, who finished with 33 points, and 8 three pointers for the Pioneers (6-6, 2-2); Messrelian hit two threes in the third quarter, and three in the fourth, but then went cold in the last five minutes despite three more attempts from behind the arc. The Griffins were also helped by Baron Abdul-Mansour's 18 points and had 13 rebounds, and junior Tristan Seisa's 15 points and six boards. Buckley led 37-20 at the half, but was outscored by 10 in the third. The Griffins play Yeshiva next week in a game that could be pivotal in the league race. Viewpoint 60, Windward 44 --Viewpoint (7-5, 2-3) was led by junior forward Matt Mosko who finished with 25 points and 14 rebounds, and Geoff Chizever, who finished with 15. Windward was led by Brad Pregerson who finished with 15 and Ethan Emerson with 15; leading scorer Lance Jackson did not play and is out with an injury. Perris 74, Hemet 71 --Sophomore center Andrew Green led Perris with 21 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Brandon Vinson contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds and Jamal Gordon had 17 points, nine assists and five steals Hemet (10-3) -- Martinez 5, Post 8, Carreon 10, Crane 33, Reilly 9, Boyd 6. Perris (4-10) -- Vinson 14, Gaines 5, Cooper 2, McNulty 10, Gordon 17, Brown 3, Hunter 2, Green 21. Halftime score -- Perris 42-39. Desert Christian 56, Mesa Grande 49-- Senior forward Tim Smith scored 23 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to help lead Bermuda Dunes Desert Christian past Calimesa Mesa Grande in a Victory League game. Ritchie Mangus hit a late 3-pointer to put the Conquerors up 48-38. Mesa Grande rallied to close to 48-45, but Desert Christian (5-8, 2-0) held on. Tim Smith led Desert Christian with 23 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks, while Mangus added eight rebounds. Wilson Creek 85, South Bay Lutheran 21 -- Yucaipa Wilson Creek outscored Torrance South Bay Lutheran 24-5 in the second quarter and pulled away with a non-league victory. Phillip Moreno scored eight of his 14 points in the second quarter to lead the Eagles. South Bay (2-8) -- Woods 7, Coleman 2, Lonnell 6, Tolliver 4, Newman 2. Calvary Baptist 73, Southnalds Christian 71(OT)--Charles Andrews led Calvary Baptist with 19 points, 10 assists and five steals. Scott Smith had 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Roma Smith added 10 points and 14 rebounds for Calvary Baptist (5-5, 0-1), which has won it's last four games.
Price 74, San Gabriel Academy 59 --Chris Ostos scored 31 points for San Gabriel Academy (7-4).
Renaissance Academy 65, Southwestern 43 --Aaron Clitheroe scored 22 points for Renaissance Academy (10-0). Jeff Feher added 13 points and four steals and Brian Bean scored 11 as the Wildcats of La Canada Flintridge, who went 11-8 in their first season last year, improved to 10-0 with a nonleague win at Southwestern of San Marino.
Villanova 71, Malibu 52 --Cole Gibson had 29 points and Djadji Daffy added 15 points and 21 rebounds for host Villanova (7-5). Malibu is 4-7. Magnet League
Bravo 45, Foshay 45 --Bravo (5-11, 1-1) was led by Branden Turner who scored 23 points.
Elizabeth Street 69, Downtown Business Magnet 66 --Alonzo Martinez scored 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds while Saul Ruiz scored12 points and 10 rebounds for Elizabeth (2-3, 1-1).
LACES 79, Valley Alternative 43 --Ben Braziel scored 17 points and Aaron Burris 12 for LACES. Andrew Davis finished with 18 points for Valley Alternative (1-1-1).
Sherman Oaks CES 56, Middle College 53 --Darren Katz scored 24 points, including seven three-pointers, to guide SOCES (1-0,1-4) past Middle College.
Western League
Fairfax 77, Palisades 56 -- Recovering from a 35 point loss to Westchester on Tuesday night, Fairfax was led by Jahsha Bluntt and Evan Burns in picking up the win. Blunt scored 19 points for Fairfax (16-3, 2-1) while Burns finished with 18. Fairfax made eleven three-pointers in the second half, including six by Bluntt. Jeff Fahnbulleh had 29 points for Palisades (11-5, 2-2).
