CIF HS Games: Results & Details From
Friday, 1/11/02--(Jan. 12, 2002)

The heart of high school basketball season has begun, and teams are for the most part playing league games, the second season within a season.  Here's what we know, gathered from reports sent to us from team representatives, coaches, players and parents, as well as what we've been able to gather from local newspapers and websites. If you know of a game that we missed, a score that is unreported, or some details that we're missing, send it in via e-mail.

Academy League

Calvary Chapel Downey 73, St. Margaret's 51-- Senior Jon James and sophomore Ralph Miley each scored 15 points for CCD (13-3, 2-0) currently ranked No. 1 by SoCalHoops in Division IV-A. Paul Janczyk scored 21 points for St. Margaret's (6-8, 2-1).

Sage Hill 59, Capistrano Valley Christian 51--Sage Hill High went on a late run to earn a 59-51 victory over visiting Capistrano Valley Christian in an Academy League boys basketball game Friday. Michael Fitzhugh scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed a school record 19 rebounds for the Lightning (4-5, 1-1). Kevin Joyce had 17 points and nine rebounds for Sage Hill.  Erik Williams finished with 10. Agape League

Apple Valley Christian 68, Hesperia Christian 55 --Kevin Dillon scored 23 points and pulled down 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals, while Josh Dillon added 21 points, six rebounds and five assists and five steals for Apple Valley Christian (13-1, 2-0) as the Warriors avenged an earlier loss to the Patriots. Nate Patterson had 17 points and nine rebounds for Hesperia Christian (10-5, 1-1).  Apple Valley Christian trailed 35-30 at half-time and 40-32 early in the third quarter before going on a 36-15 run over the final 14 minutes, holding the Patriots to 8 field goals, and forcing 16 turnovers.  Ryan Manahl added 13 points and 7 rebounds for AVC. Hesperia Christian  Bryan Glass added 10 for HCS.

Joshua Springs 82, Victor Valley Christian 39 --Andre Conner scored 24 and pulled down 20 rebounds while teammate Nathan Rynning added 22 points including six three pointers to lead host Joshua springs (10-3, 1-1). Victor Valley Christian is 0-2 in league.


Almont League

Montebello 65, Alhambra 48 --Alhambra was led by Eric Chung who scored 25, while Ian Parks scored a game high 30 for Montebello (12-6, 2-0).

San Gabriel 80, Bell Gardens 71 --San Gabriel (7-11, 1-1) was led by Milo Alarcon who scored 22 points. Arcenio Ramirez scored 22 for Bell Gardens.

Shurr 57, Keppell 44--Shawn O'Dou scored 15 points for Schurr (6-9, 2-0).


Baseline League

Claremont 92, Don Lugo 57 --Shaddean Aaron scored 27 points, Cameron Munoz had 14 points, eight assists and four steals, Kenny Penn added 13 points and Perrin Johnson scored 12 points and 6 rebounds for host Claremont (14-5, 2-1). Mike Guzik scored 19 points for Don Lugo and Richard Snyder added 13 points for Don Lugo (0-2 in league)

Glendora 70, Walnut 63 --Larry Monroe scored 21 points and Michael Mehanna added 20 points for Glendora (15-1, 3-0).Daniel Jones paced Walnut (9-7 overall) with 14 points. Dreshawn Vance and Ricky Fisher added 12 apiece.

Upland 66, Chino 55 --Julius Coleman scored 21 points for Upland (13-5, 2-1). Tye-juan Hatter added 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Upland.  The Highlanders scored 18 of their 22 fourth-quarter points on free throws, missing just six in the period and clinching the Baseline League victory. Coleman shot eight for eight from the line in the fourth quarter.  Robert White and Aaron Marcy each had 17 points to pace Chino.


Bay League

Mira Costa 46, Inglewood 41-- Ray Reed scored 17 to lead Inglewood (13-3, 3-1), which recovered from a 28-21 halftime deficit by holding Mira Costa to three third-quarter points, but without D'Angelo Collins, who injured his right knee on his first basket of the game, Inglewood fell to host Mira Costa (9-8, 3-2).   Collins was taken to a hospital to have his knee examined after the game. Inglewood led by three in the fourth quarter, but a steal and basket by Austin Jefferson and four blocks from Steve Bertrand in the final two minutes gave Mira Costa the win. Greg Geier led Mira Costa with 16 points, six rebounds and three assists. Aaron Harris added nine points and six rebounds.

Peninsula 57, Leuzinger 38--Shawn Weinstein scored 20 points to lead Peninsula (12-6, 3-2) on the road. Kevin Gardner added 15 points and Phil Baxter had 10 points for the Panthers. Dorrell Wright scored 14 points, and Donell Wright had 11 for Leuzinger (5-11, 0-4).

Redondo Union 62, North Torrance 53 --Redondo (12-5, 5-0) was led by Keith Ellison's 18 points and Adam Zahn's 11.  North Torrance (10-6, 2-3) was led by Kenny Brown who finished with 14 points. Redondo outscored North Torrance 16-6, in the third quarter. Redondo's Paul Meynen had 15 rebounds and Wendell White grabbed 11.

Santa Monica 75, Morningside 56 --David DeAngelis scored 18 points for Santa Monica (3-2) Alan Goodwin scored 12 points for Morningside (3-11, 0-5) while Travone Vickers had 13.


Camino Real League

St. Monica 66, Cantwell-Sacred Heart 50--Kyle Guillory scored 15 points with 10 rebounds to lead St. Monica (7-10, 2-0) at Cantwell Sacred Heart (5-11, 0-2).  The visiting Mariners went on a 16-6 scoring run which spanned the third quarter to help keep Cantwell winless in league.  Jason Ngo had 17 points to lead the Cardinals.

Bosco Tech 75, Mary Star 53--The Tigers (11-5,1-1) handled the visiting Stars to win their first league game of the season 76-53. The game was marred by horrible officiating resulting in over 50 fouls being called and a combined 73 free throws being attempted. Junior Damien Reyes led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points. Chris Navarre had 18 points and Jeff Fiamengo finished with 13 for the visiting Stars (6-11, 1-1).

Century League

Foothill 63, Orange 49 --Foothill (10-8, 1-1) was led by Brandt Bangs who scored 20 points and James Eves 19and 11 rebounds  Marcus Smith scored 20 points for host Orange (13-4, 0-2) in the loss.

Villa Park 72, Anaheim Canyon 65 --Brice Prather finished with a game-high 31 points and 10 rebounds.  Junior post man Sean Phaler scored 25 points, 12 rebounds and amazingly dished out 10 assists for Villa Park (16-2, 2-0) in the win over the Comanches (6-11, 1-1)

El Modena 55, Santa Ana Valley 48--details not availalble.


Channel League

Santa Barbara 59, Dos Pueblos 48 --Dante Bogan scored 20 points to lead Santa Barbara (10-9, 2-1) in the win over Dos Pueblos (10-7, 0-2). Jonathan Pickert led Dos Pueblos with 16 points.  Dos Pueblos-- Staggs 2, Pickert 16, Weatherhead 6, Ramsdell 4, Cotter 5, Glick 8, Iden 5, Flemming 2. Totals 16-43 12-20 48. Santa Barbara-- Bogan 20, Rochestie 9, Maloney 2, Russell 4, Clemens 8, DeRose 4, Fisher 2, Aguirre 10. Totals 23-44 9-20 59.  Dos Pueblos--11 11 10 16 -- 48  Santa Barbara--11 15 16 17 -- 59 3-point goals--DP 5-12 (Pickert 4, Glick 1), SB 4-13 (Bogan 3, Rochestie 1). Fouled out--Fisher 1:14. San Marcos 72, Ventura 56-- San Marcos (11-6, 3-0) scored 14 unanswered points to open the fourth quarter, led by Asher Kupperman's game-high 19 points.  Teammate Seamus McKiernan had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Royals. Nick Wagner had 18 for Ventura (3-13, 1-1) and Matt Dixon added 17.  Aaron Mercer scored 10 of his 14 points in the fourth quarter. Duane Fortune did not play for San Marcos, sitting out with a strined achilles tendon.  Steve Hill added five assists and four rebounds for the Royals. Ventura-- Laskoski 2, Shaw 4, Dixon 17, Wagner 18, Salmons 6, Campbell 9. Totals 20 6-10 56. San Marcos--Kupperman 19, Hill 2, McKiernan 18, Spaventa 9, Hopkins 4, Mercer 15, Downing 5. Citrus Belt League

Eisenhower 73, A.B. Miller 66 --Sean Marshall scored 32 for Eisenhower (16-2, 2-0), and pulled down 14 rebounds. Jacob Ramirez had 26 points for A.B. Miller (15-4, 1-1). Marshall scored eight points in a crucial 12-0 fourth-quarter run. Miller led 52-50 entering the fourth. The Rebels pulled to within 71-66 on a three by Jeremiah Ward who finished with 15 points and six assists) with just 30 seconds remaining, but Ramirez, who shot 10-17 from the field, missed a three at :12 and a layup at :05. Marshall was fouled with :02 left and closed the game with two free throws.  Johnny Dukes Dukes had 10 points and eight rebounds and John Shields added 10 for Eisenhower. Miller's Victor Michel had 11 points before fouling out late.

Rialto 60, Redlands East Valley 57--Getano Johnson scored 18 ponts to lead the Knights (10-8 overall, 1-1 in league) to the win. Chris Fuller added 12 points and Brandon Kennedy finished with 11 points and eight rebounds for the winners. Sean Green had nine rebounds and seven points for Rialto, which held on for the victory despite being outscored 18-9 in the fourth quarter. Anthony Smith had a game-high 20 points for Redlands East Valley.

Fontana 67, Redlands 55--Sophomore Ira Graham (6'-0" So. SG) scored 28 points to lead the Steelers (5-8, 1-1) to the victory. Daryl Diggins (6'-4" Jr. G) added 14 points and pulled down 20 rebounds for Fohi in the win over Redlands (8-9, 1-1). Graham had seven rebounds, four steals, and four assists for the Steelers as they defeated the Terriers    Senior 6-3 guard Gold Okolugbo had nine points and 14 rebounds.


Condor League

Thacher 69, Dunn 32 --Brenton Sullivan led Thacher with 17 points. Twelve players scored for Thacher (2-6, 2-0). Jones led Dunn (0-8, 0-2) with 12 points.

Laguna Blanca 52, Cate 43--Laguna Blanca's Eric Geeb and Jelani Hicks combined for 36 points to lead the Owls (6-6, 3-0) over Cate.    Geeb led all scorers with 21 points.  Cate-- Sanni 3, Banner 11, Widdoes 2, Barton 2, Altman 11, McCammack 12, Wright 2. Laguna Blanca-- Geeb 21, Hicks 15, Jeffrey 5, Jones 2, Kaufman 8, Nelson 1.  Cate --14 8 14 7 -- 43  Laguna Blanca . . . 15 10 14 13 -- 52 3-point goals--C 3 (Sanni, Banner, Altman), LB 4 (Geeb 2, Hicks, Kaufman). Total fouls--C 21, LB 14. Fouled out--Altman.


De Anza League

Aquinas 79, Big Bear 69 --Jermaine Harris scored 28 points to lead Aquinas (4-1 in league) at Big Bear (6-8, 3-2). Matt Cavanagh scored 25 points and had 5 steals for Big Bear in the loss.  Glenn Ohaeri added 18 for the Falcons in the win.  Aquinas trailed 34-33 heading into halftime but outscored Big Bear by 12 points in the second half.

Banning 54, Notre Dame 51 --Kenny Colby buried a three-pointer at the buzzer to win the game. Notre Dame's Talani Calhoun scored 26 points in the loss..


Delphic League

Brentwood 63, Whitney 44 --Recovering from the loss on Wednesday to Montclair Prep, Brentwood's (15-3, 1-1) Nick Henry made six three-pointers and finished with 29 points


Del Rey League

Serra 82, Bishop Montgomery 78 --Eugene Jeter scored 30 points (including five three-pointers) to lead Serra (18-2, 3-0) to the win over Bishop Montgomery (13-5, 1-1). Jeter made his fifth three with 35 seconds remaining to secure the win at Bishop Montgomery, which had gone undefeated at home for the past three seasons.   Jeter added 10 assists and 7 steals. Serra outscored the Knights 10-5 in the final 1:53. Bishop Montgomery had taken a 73-72 lead on a slam dunk by Gavin Lee. Jeter then scored five of Serra's next seven points. Bishop Montgomery's junior guard/forward Fred Washington led all scorers with 33 points and had eight rebounds, six steals and five blocks, but only scored five points in the fourth.  Serra forced seven fourth-quarter turnovers. Bishop Montgomery's senior forward Gavin Lee had 16 points and two blocks, and scored 8 in the fourth quarter.  Eugene Hackett added 12 points and five rebounds for Serra, while Chris Hemphill and Samir Hernandez each scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds. Brandon Peace had nine points and four rebounds, and Marquis Washington (Fred's younger brother) had nine points and two rebounds for the Knights.

Bishop Amat 60, St Paul 42--Senior John Haywood who signed with LMU, led the Lancers, who improved to 15-4 overall and 2-1 in league, with a team-high 19 points on 7-of-15 shooting. The 6-foot-6 forward also pulled down seven rebounds. Junior guard Paul Porter scored all nine of his points in the first quarter when the Lancers jumped out to a 16-5 lead, and finished with five assists and three steals. The Swordsmen (11-10, 0-2) never got within double digits the remainder of the game.  St. Paul's Rudy Serna finished with a game high 20 points, shooting 6-of-14 from the field, and 5-of-12 from three-point range.  George Balderas finished with 10 points and seven rebounds for Bishop Amat while junior guard Andrew Soto finished with 8.


Del Rio League

El Rancho 64, Whittier 51 --Al Santa Cruz scored 25 points including six three pointers to lead El Rancho (7-10, 2-0). Mike Hernandez scored 23 for Whittier (13-4, 1-1). The Dons sank 6 of 10 shots in the fourth quarter to hold off the Cardinals. Santa Cruz made a 3-pointer from the right wing to give the Dons a 55-45 lead with 2:28 left. Bobby Miller had a key three-point play with 1:28 left. Santa Cruz hit 8 of 14 shots, including six 3-pointers. Miller had 13 points, seven in the final quarter. Reserve Francis Chiong scored 10 points.  The Dons survived the loss of starter Daniel Carrera, who was ejected, along with Whittier starter Danny Carlos, for fighting early in the second half. Carrera finished with 11 points.

La Serna 61, Pioneer 35-- Matt Spain scored eight of his game-high 17 points in the third quarter when the Lancers (9-10, 1-1) outscored the Titans, 20-4, taking a 48-26 lead into the fourth period.  Pioneer (2-13, 1-1)   Dusty Zuber scored seven of his 16 points in the second quarter for the Lancers.


Desert Mountain League

Boron 58, Silver Valley 49 --Ricky Hughes scored 19 points and brother Robert Hughes added 11 to lead Boron (6-7, 1-1) over Silver Valley   6-0 forward Sidney Tharpe had 11, but the visiting Trojans (2-13, 0-1) fell.

Lone Pine 72, Lucerne Valley 32 --Randall Barbour scored 24 points for Lone Pine (7-9, 2-0).


Desert Sky League

Silverado 63, Granite Hills 41 --Jamie Lester scored 14 points to lead Silverado (11-7, 3-0) at Granite Hills (6-8, 1-2).

Victor Valley 77, Barstow 60 --Steve Thompson scored 22 to lead host Victor Valley (15-3, 2-0) over Barstow (9-8, 0-2). Thompson also had five rebounds and five steals. Senior 6-4 forward Jonathan Ackerman had nine points, eight rebounds, four steals and five assists for Victor Valley, while senior 6-0 guard DeJesus Brown had 13 points and four rebounds


Desert Valley League

Cathedral City 60, Indio 55 --Cathedral City's (11-5, 4-0) Thomas Shewmake scored 23 points and Indio's (9-7, 2-2) Earl Isaacison also had 23 points in the loss.  The low-scoring game, which featured nine lead changes in the third and fourth quarters, was in question until the final moments. Tied at 54 with 1:15 to play, the Lions managed to squeeze out a 6-1 run to put the game away -- a free throw by Brandon Gray to put the Lions up 55-54 with just over a minute left, a basket by Thomas Shewmake to regain the lead at 57-55 with :50 to play and then three free throws by Brandon Brown (2-for-2) and Jared Otteson (1-for-2) to nail it shut in the final 10 seconds.

La Quinta 60, Coachella Valley 50 --Paul St. Angelo scored 18 and had four assists to lead host La Quinta (4-13, 1-3). Billy Mathews had 15 points and eight rebounds to lead the Blackhawks to their first league win of the season.   Nate Ramos scored 15 and Christian Limon added 10 for Coachella Valley. 

Palm Springs 60, Desert Hot Springs 49-- Palm Springs (9-8, 3-1) was led by Donald Whitted’s 17 points, while Kevin Howard collected eight of his 13 points in the fourth quarter. Desert Hot Springs (3-10, 0-5) was led by Jason Edmonds with a game-high 19 points. Desert Hot Springs (49): Edmonds 19, Ortega 12, M. Thompson 6, Ramos 6, McSwain 6 Palm Springs (60): Whitted 17, Harvey 12, Spurgin 12, Berry 2, Rougely 3, Claggett 7, C. Thompson 5, Edwards 1 3-pointers: Ramos 1, Edmonds 1, McSwain 1, Whitted 2, Howard 1, Claggett 1.


Empire League

El Dorado 65, Cypress 56 --David Patten scored 16 and Peter Bond added 15 on four three-pointers for visiting El Dorado (15-3, 1-1). Matt Reid had 15 points for Cypress (13-5, 1-1).

Katella 57, Kennedy 56 (OT) --Brett Avery sent the game into overtime with a basket at the buzzer for host Katella (10-6, 1-1). Robert Alvarez scored 17 points, and Avery and Chris Alva finished with nine points each. Ike Njoku scored 14 points for Kennedy (11-7, 0-2).

Loara 51, Century 43 --Delasandro Dean scored 16 points to lead Loara (15-3, 2-0) at Century (12-6, 1-1). Ramon Mendoza scored 17 for Century in the loss. Bryce Sheldon added 12 for the Saxons.


Express League

South Bay Lutheran 81, Southlands Christian 44 --Mychal Banners scored 15 points for visiting South Bay Lutheran (4-2, 2-0). David Solis had 18 points for Southlands Christian (0-2). Chris Maxie added 14 for South Bay Lutheran in the road win. Anthony Raines and Donivyn Zanders added 11.


Foothill League

Hart 65, Valencia 64--Valencia (9-10, 1-2) cut Hart's 15-point second-half lead to one in the waning moments. But Ryan Zike missed a 3-pointer from the left side with four seconds left, and Hart escaped with a ragged 65-64 Foothill League boys' basketball victory Friday night at Valencia.  Hart  missed four free throws in the last 39 seconds, including the front end of a one-and-one. Nevertheless, the Indians (16-3, 3-0) won their 11th consecutive game. Andrew Brucker scored 14 points for Valencia, 12 in the second half. He also had eight blocked shots. Mike Morales added 13 points and Ryan Zike had 11 (including two 3-pointers in the final period) and Scott Domingo also scored 11. Hart's Cody Kase scored 17 points, including a steal and slam dunk late in the third quarter to bring the crowd to its feet.

Saugus 77, Burbank Burroughs 39 --Mark Holmquist had 21 points for Saugus (11-8, 3-0).


Freedom League

No league games played


Freeway League

La Habra 51, Troy 47 --Travis McShane scored 12 points to lead La Habra (10-7, 1-1) at Troy (8-10, 0-2).

Sonora 55, Buena Park 47 --Larence Knight had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Travis Rogers added 13 points and five assists for host Sonora (11-7, 2-0). Buena Park is 13-3, 1-1.

Sunny Hills 40, Fullerton 26 --Tony Gonzalez scored 12 points for Sunny Hills (15-4, 2-0)in the win over Fullerton (13-7, 0-2).


Frontier League

Santa Clara 71, Nordhoff 53 --Anthony Marquez scored 25 points (including three three pointers) and Alex Minney added 24 points for the Saints (10-7, 2-1) in the win at Nordhoff (7-10, 1-2).  Tim LaJoie added 16 along with 16 rebounds for Santa Clara. Nordhoff was led by Jordan Swift with 19 points and seven rebounds and Micah Nylander added 12 points.

Santa Paula 86, Malibu 48 --Ernesto Lopez scored 31 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for Santa Paula (9-8, 2-0) in the win at Malibu. Joseph Mata added 15 points and six assists.


Garden Grove League

Bolsa Grande 76, La Quinta 49 --Omar Amaral scored 41 points for Bolsa Grande (13-5, 4-0) in the win over La Quinta (4-15, 2-3).

Los Amigos 75, Santiago 52 --Hector Degante had 24 points and six rebounds to lead Los Amigos (10-9, 4-0).


Golden League

Lancaster 68, Antelope Valley 55-- Lancaster senior guard Mike Webb, who scored a game-high 30 points.  Webb hit a 3-pointer late in the third quarter to give the Eagles (13-5, 2-0) their first lead of the game, a lead they would never surrender.  Charles Jones scored 18 points and center Steve Thornton added 10 for the Eagles, who built the lead to 12 in the fourth quarter. Lancaster outscored AV (13-5, 1-1) by 10 in the final quarter, 26-16, spurring on an already boisterous crowd.  Ollie Bradley led the Antelopes with 18 points, six in the second half. AV senior point guard Eric Williams finished with 11 points.


Golden West League

Ocean View 70, Westminster 25 --Casey Ortiz scored 20 points and Matt Hatch added 17 points and 13 rebounds for host Ocean View (10-7, 2-0). Louis An scored 13 points for Westminster (3-12, 0-3).


High Desert League

Frazier Mountain 68, Vasquez 47 --Kris Stone scored 22 points for Frazier Mountain (3-12, 1-3). Vasquez is 0-4 in league.Cody Marestein added 18 points and 15 rebounds and Dan Yeager had 12 points, six assists and no turnovers for the Falcons. Carl Evans led Vasquez with 17 points.


Hi-Lo League

Riverside Poly 52, JW North 46--details not available.


Liberty League

Oakwood v. Avalon--Final score not reported by either team.  Oakwood led 20-17 at the half over visiting Avalon, which will play back-to-back games.


Los Padres League

Santa Ynez 69, Atascadero 51 --Matt McKinney had 25 points to lead Santa Ynez (7-9, 2-1).  Junior Aaron Richman picked up the slack in the second half after Matt McKinney fouled out finishing with 18 points, while senior Jeff Urton added 13 points and nine rebounds. Atascadero--Spafford 2, Smyth 2, Davis 14, Walsh 4, Berwick 9, Phillips 9, Murillo 4, Parker 7. Total 20 11-18 51.  Santa Ynez--Bratcher 5, Clark 4, McKinney 25, Lindberg 5, A. Moorpark 64, Agoura 53 --Danny Nystrom scored 15 points for Moorpark (11-7, 2-2), and Jose Rodriguez scored 14 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the win at Agoura (5-10, 0-3) Keith Nystrom led with a team-high 15 points while Keith Lawrence had 11 for Moorpark. . Agoura was led by Kevin Cornwell who scored 15 points.

Newbury Park 73, Westlake 48 --Chris Randall scored 26 points and Randy Meru added 24 for a Newbury Park (11-6, 4-0) win, including 6 three pointers and Rudy Flores scored 11 points. Westlake (1-2 in league) was led by Jonathan Wiley who scored 19 points.

Thousand Oaks 93, Royal 44--  Thousand Oaks (15-3, 4-0) was led at home by Ben Olson who scored 23 points and Dave Anderson who added 13 points. Thousand Oaks rolled to a 48-23 halftime lead. Kasey Myers scored 11 points and Kevin Rex added 10 points. Royal (1-2 in league) was led by Kyle Von Drake with 14 points.


Metro League

Lake Arrowhead Christian 66,  Calvary Chapel Redlands 40--Sophomore guard Gerry Conedy (5'-10" So. G) scored 23 points for Lake Arrowhead Christian (4-6, 2-2). Ryan Rosebery scored 19 points for Calvary Chapel.   Sophomore 5-9 guard Dane McCollister added 18 points and four rebounds for Lake Arrowhead Christian, while senior 6-2 forward Steven Kinsley had seven points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

Riverside Christian 57, Upland Christian 55 (2 OT) --Matt Williams scored the game winning basket on a layup to lift Riverside Christian (6-2, 3-0) over Upland Christian. Williams scored 14 points for Riverside Christian. Nick Roberds scored 29 points and 13 rebounds for Upland Christian (11-5, 5-1), which went   scoreless in the second overtime period. Travis Manning added 10 points for Upland Christian.

Desert Chapel 113, Christian Center Academy 29 --Desert Chapel (6-3, 1-1) bolted to a 31-7 lead after the first quarter and cruised to the Metro League victory.  Nathan Long led the way with 21 points and Reed Ritchie added 19 points.

Cal Lutheran 62, Cornerstone Christian (Wildomar) 48 -- At Mt. San Jacinto College, Robert Betts scored 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the C-Hawks (1-10, 1-1) to their first win of the season.  Ryan Campbell had 11 points and 10 assists, while Eric Neujahr scored 11 points and nine rebounds. Scott Coppick had eight points and eight rebounds.  Cornerstone (7-6, 3-2) was led by Chris Paul who scored 18 points and brother Josh Paul who had 19.


Miramonte League

Diamond Ranch 60, Charter Oak 57 --Evan Flagg and Micheal Earl each scored 13 points for Diamond Ranch (10-6, 1-1). Brent Humphrey hit two free throws with 2.2 seconds in regulation for the win. Earl also had 4 blocks and seven rebounds. Delano Grey scored nine and Richard Coombs added seven in the win for the Panthers. Led by Sharif Elkhaldy's 27 points, Charter Oak (0-2) recovered from a 15-point deficit to make the score 58-57 with 12 seconds remaining. The Chargers missed a free throw that would have tied the score.

Los Altos 73, Garey 61 --Anthony Garcia scored 22 and teammate Dylan Rogers scored 21 to lead host Los Altos (10-8, 2-0). Osaar Rasshan scored 22 for Garey (4-14, 0-2) in the loss. The Conquerors outscored Garey 46-33 in the second and third quarters. Jason Hawk added 11 rebounds and senior point guard Jeremiah Barnes had 8 assists to contribute to the win.

Pomona 66, Wilson (Hacienda Heights) 52--After a 26-13 third-quarter run, the Pomona Devils ( 13-5, 2-0) led 50-29 entering the fourth quarter. However, Wilson rallied to cut the lead down to seven before Pomona used a 26-13 third quarter to pull away for good. O'dell Howard led all scorers with 28 points for Pomona and added 13 rebounds. Alvaro Nunez added 17 points and seven assists for Pomona, which improved to 13-5 overall and 2-0 in league. Wilson fell to 1-1 in league.


Mission League

Alemany 48, Crespi 37 --Alemany (3-13, 1-2) extended a four point lead with less than two minutes to play to beat Crespi (2-1 in league).

Harvard-Westlake 89, St. Francis 41 --Bryce Taylor scored 28 points to lead Harvard-Westlake (15-3, 4-1); Taylor did not play in the second half. Gabrielino 59, South El Monte 51 --Sean Carey scored 27 to lead host Gabrielino (9-8, 1-1) in the win over South El Monte (4-11, 1-1)

Rosemead 36, Arroyo 32 --Albert Cardona scored half his team's points (18) to lead Rosemead (9-9, 1-1) at Arroyo.


Mojave River League

Rim of the World 53, Hesperia 42 --Rim of the World's (8-10, 2-1) Jason Bruton (6'-3" Sr. C) scored 18 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and went 8-12 from the field. Junior 5'-10" guard Kurt Oliver came back from missing two games with a severe ankle sprain to score 13 points as the visiting Fighting Scots beat the Scorpions (12-5, 1-1).

Apple Valley 72, Sultana 57-- Junior 6-0 forward Jimmy Bailey had 15 points and six rebounds as the visiting Sun Devils (3-0, 14-2) defeated the Sultans in a Mojave River League. Senior 6-3 guard Jamal Holden had 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists for Apple Valley.


Montview League

La Puente 62, Bassett 53 --La Puente's (8-8, 1-1) Conrad Olvera scored 25 points while Bassett's (2-14, 1-1) Sal Rios contributed 20.

Azusa 53, Gladstone 34 --The Aztecs (4-13) notched their first win of league competition with a lopsided with over the Gladiators.   Senior guard John Igoe led the way for Azusa with 15 points and teammate Justin Alaemand added 13 and Oscar Nunez had 12. Azusa held Gladstone to two points in the third quarter.


Moore League

Lakewood 51, Long Beach Jordan 50--Eugene Carey took an inbound pass, penetrated the Panthers' zone defense and hit a four-footer at the buzzer as the Lancers improved to 3-0 in league play. Terrell McLaurin led Lakewood (14-1 overall) with 18 points.

Long Beach Poly 71, Millikan 44--Senior forward Marcedes Lewis had 14 points and 13 rebounds as the Jackrabbits (14-2, 3-0) defeated the visiting Rams (1-2 league).

Cabrillo 54, Wilson 50--Junior guard Eddie Patterson scored 14 points as the Jaguars (8-7, 1-1) defeated the Bruins (0-2) to win their first game in league.


Mountain View

Centennial 68, La Sierra 51 --J.R. Reese scored 24 points (13-2, 2-0) for Centennial.


Mt. Baldy League

Alta Loma 68, Etiwanda 62--Terrence Hundley scored 10 of his game-high 20 points in the final quarter to help keep the Braves (13-5, 2-0) undefeated in the win over visiting Etiwanda (11-6, 1-1) D'Ornoir Flax finished with 14 while Jacob Johnson finished with 18.  The Braves held a two-point lead, 50-48, early in the fourth quarter and went on the only significant run of the game. Alta Loma outscored the Eagles 7-0 to take a 57-48 lead on a put-back by Marcus Carter off a missed free throw with 3:19 remaining.  Etiwanda couldn't get any closer than five points the rest of the way.

Ontario 56, Montclair 30-- Desmond Cruz scored 23 points and David Dunn added nine rebounds to go along with his four points as the Jaguars improved to 2-0 in the league and 12-4 overall with the victory.

Rancho Cucamonga 74, Chaffey 69--Chaffey rallied back from a 20-point first-half deficit to tie the game at 59, only to watch the Cougars pull away at the end. Mike Hamilton scored 27 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the way for Rancho Cucamonga (6-12, 1-1). Devion Ward added 17 points and Travis Washington had 14 points and 15 rebounds.  Rashad Fox led Chaffey (6-12, 0-2) with 27 points


Northern League

San Luis Obispo 63, Arroyo Grande 54--San Luis Obispo (9-8, 1-2) won it in the final minute. Ahead by three points, 56-53, San Luis Obispo had Jeff Mahin and Evan Dimmitt make seven of 10 free throws in the final 46.2 seconds to put the game away.  Arroyo Grande’s Scott Buhl had 24 points and 16 rebounds, and Sean Hogoboom finished with 21 points.  Dan Monroe led San Luis Obispo with 19 points and six rebounds, and Evan Dimmitt had 10 points.


Ocean League

El Segundo 81, Culver City 57 --Dashawn Strong scored 28 points and had 17 rebounds and Jeramie Hopson added 22 points and 11 rebounds for El Segundo (16-2, 5-0). Jarrod Tenant scored 27 points for Culver City (2-3 in league).   Tino Gomez scored all 14 of his points in the third quarter, and Mike McCullough chipped in with five assists.

West Torrance 53, Beverly Hills 52 (OT) --Dewayne Holyfield scored 16 points and six rebounds for West Torrance (8-9, 4-1), which ouscored Beverly Hills 11-8 in the fourth quarter to force the overtime. Isaac Aflalian scored 25 points for Beverly Hills (6-11, 0-5). Brad Dolick scored four of his 11 points in overtime for West (8-9, 4-1). Chris Brown grabbed eight rebounds.


Olympic League

Maranatha 69, Whittier Christian 44 --John Gregoric had 15 points for Maranatha (9-1 overall). The visiting Minutemen jumped to a quick 19-2 lead, the cruised to the victory.


Orange League

Brea Olinda 86, Magnolia 58--Eric Giesler scored a career-high 35 points to help the Wildcats (13-6, 2-0) fly past the Sentinels (3-15, 0-2). Brea's Brent Smith had 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Savanna 54, Anaheim 45 --Turmel Woods had 20 points for Savanna (6-12, 1-1) and Chasin Mitchell had 24 points for Anaheim (4-13, 1-1).

Western 44, Placentia Valencia 42 --Jarom Watts made two free throws in the closing seconds for Western (10-6, 2-0).

Crescenta Valley 67, Glendale 37 --Jimmy Goffredo scored 30 points for Crescenta Valley (12-6, 1-1), 21 in the second-half as the Nitros (9-9, 1-1) fell.  Chris Tarne finished with 12. Goffredo hit seven of his team's nine three-pointers and Brian Kang added 10 points for the Falcons. Muir 92, Arcadia 51 --Ryan Hollins scored 16 points and had 16 rebounds and Devon Thomas added 18 points for the Mustangs (17-0, 2-0). Although the outcome of the game was never in jeopardy, Arcadia (12-6, 0-2) managed to keep the Mustangs out of sync throughout the first quarter, but Muir's lead was never in doubt, and they led 20-9 at the end of the first..  Muir went on a 17-2 run to start the second quarter and another 26-13 run in the third quarter. Anthony Jackson finished with 11 points and Richard Bautista had 9, while Owen Duckworth had 10.  Seniors Brent Dohling and Donte Owens led the Apaches with 20 and 11 points respectively, including a combined four three-pointers.  David Gaulton had seven rebounds for Arcadia.

Chadwick 53, Flintridge Prep 49 --Matt Fournier had 18 points and six assists and three steals for Chadwick (5-3, 2-0) at home.  Chris Radeski added 16 points and 12 rebounds for Chadwick. Wes Putnam had 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Dolphins.

Rio Hondo Prep 41, Webb 39 --Devon Drain scored a game-high 11 points as the Kares (8-6, 1-1) won a close game.  Arson Rao scored 14 points to pace Webb.

La Canada 73, San Marino 50 --Robbie Neyland scored 20 points for La Canada (14-3, 2-0)

Monrovia 63, Temple City 57 -- Utah-bound Bryant Markson had 21 points for Monrovia (10-7, 2-0) and Kevin Sweeney had 34 points, including five three-pointers, for Temple City (10-6, 1-1). Markson also grabbed 14 rebounds, while teammate Steffon Barron finished with 18 points.  Sweeney scored 15 in the first quarter.

South Pasadena 65, Blair 62 --Junior guard Ben Johnson was 6- of-8 from beyond the 3-point line to finish with a career-high 18 points as the Tigers (4-9, 1-2) held off Blair.


San Andreas League

San Grogonio 80, Pacific 59 --Junior 5'-10" guard Kevin Houston scored 29 points on 12 three pointers and added eight assists to lead San Grogonio (13-5, 1-1) at Pacific (6-10, 1-1).  Junior 6'-3" guard Khorry Lewis added 22 points and was 6-of-6 from the free-throw line for San Gorgonio, while junior 5'-10" forward Daryl Leach had 12 rebounds and senior 6'-6" center Thomas Tyler had 10 rebounds. Colton 65, San Bernardino 60--  Junior 6-4 guard Brian Sorenson had a game-high 29 points, including 11 in the fourth quarter, and also had five rebounds as Colton rallied to beat visiting San Bernardino 65-60 on Friday in a San Andreas League game. Junior 6-0 guard Daniel Evans added 11 points and four rebounds for the Yellowjackets (1-1 SAL, 7-11 overall), who outscored San Bernardino 26-18 in the fourth quarter. Senior 6-7 center Jason Wilcox had six rebounds, five assists and four blocks in the victory. Walter White had 27 points, including five three-pointers, for the Cardinals (0-2, 6-9).

Downey 57, Lynwood 50 --Day Hardy scored 22 points and Larry Cunningham added 20 points for Downey (11-7, 2-0).  Day scored 17 in the first half as the Vikings defeated the host Knights (4-9, 0-2).

Gahr 54 Paramount 52 --Paulo Obra's jumper with nine seconds to play gave Gahr (7-12, 2-0) the winning edge. Senior forward JoJo Purcell had 14 points to lead the Gladiators past the visiting Pirates (0-2 league).

Jamie Diefenbach added six points, while senior point guard Greg Perrine had 12 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.  Erik Peterson added 11 points, five rebounds, one block and two steals. Mater Dei 71, Santa Margarita 55 -- Playing at the Long Beach State Pyramid, Mike Strawberry scored 20 points to lead Mater Dei (15-4, 2-0) over Santa Margarita (17-2, 1-1). Santa Margarita initially jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Mater Dei came storming back, going on a 17-4 run, giving Mater Dei  a 28-22 halftime lead.  Mater Dei's defense held the normally high scoring Eagles to just 22% from the field in the first half.  In the third quarter, Strawberrry scored another 10 points, helping Mater Dei extend the lead to 13.  Mike's cousin, D.J. Strawberry hit a three-pointer at the end of the third, to give the Monarchs a 51-35 lead.  Brandon Rohe led the Eagles with 20 points.

St. John Bosco 74, Servite 52 --Senior guard Giovanni St. Amant finished with 39 points, on 16-25 shooting, as well as pulling down 12 rebounds, to lead visiting St. John Bosco (17-3, 1-1) to the win over Servite (8-11, 0-2)  Eric Lane finished with a double-double, 11 points and 10 assists, and 6 steals.


Sierra League

Ayala 54, West Covina 44 --Danny Stephens scored 14 of his 24 points in the third quarter for Ayala (9-7, 1-1), which went on a 24-0 run in the quarter as the visiting Bulldogs beat West Covina.  Stephens also finished with had 11 rebounds. Dan Larsen was the next high scorer for Ayala with 11 points and also added eight rebounds of his own  Kyle Gregory contributed seven assists for Ayala (9-7, 1-1) and Jeff Ginna scored 17 points to pace West Covina (12-6, 1-1).

Damien 82, Nogales 76 --Zach Phillips scored 25 points and Chaz Turner added 22 for Damian at home.  Freddie Brown had 14 points and 10 rebound for Damien (8-10, 1-1), while Nogales remains winless in league (0-2).   Phillips aded 10 rebounds.  Aaron Boyd led Nogales with 18 points. An 8-0 run in the third for Damien was the difference. 

Diamond Bar 65, Rowland 46--Khalif Ford scored 13 points and Brandon Papez added 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Brahmas (9-8, 2-0) to the victory.  Diamond Bar led by three after the first quarter but pulled away for a 34-23 halftime lead and was never seriously threatened after that. Ford also had five assists and three steals for the Brahmas. Vashon Pruitt led Rowland with 15 points and Larry Tieu added 12.


South Coast League

Capistrano Valley 89, San Clemente 63 --Pete deCasas had 20 points for Capistrano Valley (15-4).

El Toro 56, Trabuco Hills 50 --Will Brown scord 16 points, 12 of those in the fourth quarter to rally El Toro (14-4, 2-0) over Trabuco Hills (10-8, 0-2) . Patrick Carney added 13 points for El Toro. The Chargers rallied from a six-point deficit in the fourth quarter but then outscored Trabuco Hills 24-12 in the final period.

Mission Viejo 70, Dana Hills 39--Travis Niesen scored 22 points and Kevin Stacey added 13 for visiting Mission Viejo (15-2, 2-0). Dana Hills is 12-5, 0-2.


Southwestern League

Chaparral 59, Temecula Valley 57 --Allen Craig scored 19 for Chaparral (14-6, 1-0) while teammate Manuel Montano had a game high 14 blocked shots. Ross Green scored a game high 20 points Temecula Valley (14-6, 1-1).  Will Campbell finished with 18 points for Chaparral. The Pumas shot 15-18  from the line in the second half and 20-25 in the game. Chodola scored 13.

Murrieta Valley 61, Elsinore 56-- Murrieta's 61-56 win over the Tigers on Friday created a four-way tie on the top of the Southwestern boys basketball standings with the Nighthawks, Elsinore, Temecula Valley and Chaparral all at 1-1 after two games. Temescal Canyon, which picked up a nonleague win over Rancho Verde Friday, is 0-1.  Bryan Ricks' 26 points helped slow that groundswell Friday night. More importantly, perhaps, Murrieta (9-9, 1-1 league) held Keahey, the team's leading scorer, to 14 points. Mack Green led Elsinore (14-4, 1-1) with 15.  Murrieta also got 14 points from A.J. McGregor.


Suburban League

Artesia 83, Bellflower 54 --Senior guard Jamel Gay scored 19 points (15 in the first half) to lead host Artesia (9-5, 2-1). Bellflower is now 9-9.

Cerritos 52, Glenn 38--Sophomore forward Dawin Whiten and senior guard Kevin Sohn each scored 12 points to lead the Dons (8-9, 1-2) past the visiting Eagles (1-12, 0-3).

La Mirada 51, Norwalk 36 --Charlie Torres scored 23 points for La Mirada (2-1, 7-1).


Sunbelt League

Hemet 71, West Valley 59--Sterling Crane, Hemet's only senior starter led the Bulldogs with 21 points. Crane had 13 points at the half and scored six straight points on a driving layup and a pair of turnaround jumpers in the third quarter. The Bulldogs (9-6, 1-1) led early, then held off every push by the Mustangs (4-13, 0-1).  Hemet's Lawrence Williams added 16 points. Diesel Nevarez, West Valley's top shooter, scored 14 points, but only two in the second half.


Sunkist League

Riverside ML King 87, Norte Vista 58 --Marvin Lea scored 18 to lead Riverside King (14-3, 2-0).


Sunset League

Esperanza 78, Marina 70 --Jessie Hills scored 26 points for Esperanza (9-10, 2-1).

Los Alamitos 61, Edison 58 (2 OT) --Mark Lotman scored five of his team-high 14 points in the two overtime periods for visiting Los Alamitos (11-8, 2-1). Edison's Beau Roquemore hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into the second overtime. Billy Braun scored 16 points for the Chargers (12-6, 2-1). Lotman made a free throw with 17 seconds left in double overtime to seal the win.    Robbie Haynes hit a 5-footer to give the Griffins a two-point lead, and Mark Lotman made one of two free throws with 12 seconds left to secure the win.

Huntington Beach 36, Fountain Valley 26 --Brian McLaughlin scored 15 points for Huntington Beach (8-11, 1-2)


Tri-Valley League

Oak Park 54, Carpinteria 48 --Nick Zemke scored 14 points to lead the Warriors (12-6, 1-0) in the win over Carpinteria (6-8, 1-1). Valle Vista League

Baldwin Park 62, Sierra Vista 46--Kris Lewis scored 22 points and Gery Thompson added 20 points for Baldwin Park (5-9, 2-2).

Bonita 56, Northview 33 --Nik Kannan had made eight of nine free throws and finished with 12 points for Bonita (10-6, 3-1) at Northviiew (6-10, 1-3).  Kannan scored 9 in the third quarter, part of a 22-6 run by the Bearcats.  Justin Miller added 11 points and eight rebounds for Bonita.

Ganesha 74, Covina 66 --Chris Reaves scored 23 points for Ganesha (13-4, 3-1)at Covina (13-3, 2-2).  Joseph Bonner contributed 12 points in the win. Brett Till led the Colts with 19 points. Ariel Hall-Jones scored also scored 12 points Ganesha. Led by Till's scoring, Covina cut a 43-29 halftime deficit to three in the second half but couldn't get any closer.

San Dimas 76, South Hills 41 --Curtis Small scored 26 points for San Dimas (12-4, 4-0). Antouan Mesropian added 22 and 11 rebounds as the Saints blew away the Huskies to stay undefeated in Valle Vista League play. San Dimas' Ryan Gunderson also scored in double figures, putting up 15. The Saints extended their lead with a 25-5 third-quarter run.


Westside League

Santa Clarita Christian 100, Hillcrest Christian (Thousand Oaks) 52 --Micah Panama scored 24 points with 23 rebounds to lead Santa Clarita Christian (10-4, 4-0) at Hillcrest Christian. Caleb Sulham added 22 points for Santa Clarita Christian.

West LA Baptist 70, Highland Hall 67--Tomas Johnson scored 35 points for West LA Baptist (4-3, 2-1). Highland Hall Axel Sawczuk scored 24 points for Highland Hall.

Calabasas 56, Ribet Academy 55--Steve Saunders hit two free throws with three seconds to play to lift host Calabasas (11-8, 1-1). Ribet is now 11-5. Adam Malatesta scored 20 points for Calabasas in the win. Ribet led 27-25 at the half. Chris Booker scored 23 points for Ribet (11-5). Calvary Baptist 44, Palm Valley 29-- Charles Andrew scored 22 points and Scott Smith added eight points and 11 rebounds to lead Calvary Baptist (6-5). Jun Lee had six points, five rebounds and four assists in the win.

Lompoc 58, Cabrillo 50 -- Anthony English had 17, Tim Hilley 14, Joel Smith 10 for the Braves of Lompoc (10-5)  while Isaac Simmons had 13, Thomas Woodard 12 to pace the Cabrillo (3-11) Conquistadores.  Chris Lynwood, averaging 17 ppg for Lompoc, was held to just 3 by Cabrillo.

Oaks Christian 60, St. Bonaventure 51 --Shaun Adams led Oaks Christian (14-0) with 21 points (four 3-pointers). Mike Hornbuckle had eight points and five rebounds. For St. Bonaventure (9-6, 0-1), Whitney Lewis scored all of his 11 points in the second half. Brian Ragen scored 11 points and Clay Hertel added 10.

Oxnard 64, Buena 48 --Lee Abair had 17 points for Oxnard and Jonathan Davis had 16 points and nine assists to lead Oxnard (15-4) at Buena (10-9).   Henry Patterson and Kevin Thrower added 13 points each. Patterson pulled down 10 rebounds. For Buena Tim Goodwin came off the bench to hit four 3-pointers on his way to 12 points.

Serrano 69, Ridgecrest Burros 66 (OT)-- Jason Wells made two free throws with eight seconds left in overtime to lift the Diamondbacks (4-14) over the Burros in a nonleague game. Serrano forced overtime when Casey Moen made two free throws with seven seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and tied the score at 55-55. Moen finished with 12 points and six rebounds, while Matt Ryder had 30 points, four steals and four assists.

Temescal Canyon 64, Rancho Verde 61 --Josh Garrett, Marty Wing and Matt Twanmley each scored 15 points for host Temescal Canyon (10-7) and Anthony Winston netted 25 for Rancho Verde (9-9).  Garrett drained a pair of free throws with eight seconds left for the win. Rancho Verde opened with a 12-0 run, but Temescal cut its deficit to 36-27 at the half.  Mike Peterson had 12 for Temescal. Wing and Twamley each added eight rebounds.

Westview 80, Coutin 51 --Youssef Hulse scored 23 points for Westview (10-2). 

LA City Section League  Games, Friday, Jan. 11, 2002

Coliseum League

Locke 83, Jefferson 73 --Curtis Isom scored 23 points and Kevin Lewis added 23 points and 11 rebounds for Locke (11-5, 2-0). John Brown scored 25 points for Jefferson.

Dorsey 75, Fremont 70 --Junior point guard Drew Gibson scored a game-high 30 points and Donald Wilson finished with 22 as the Dons (10-4, 2-0) upset Fremont (14-2, 1-1) on Friday at home. Gibson scored seven straight points in the fourth quarter to help Dorsey overcome a 10 point deficit. Terrell Powell had 21 points for Fremont in the loss.

Bell 37, South Gate 34 --Mauricio Centeno and Jerry Lopez each scored 11 points for Bell (7-6, 2-0) in the win over South Gate (5-12, 0-2).

Franklin 80, Lincoln 50 -- Franklin (8-6, 2-0) was led by Albert Lutton who scored 17.

Belmont 49, Marshall 46 -- Belmont's Leonel Castaneda finished with 18 points, and made the front end of a one-and-one with less than a minute to play to put Belmont (2-0) ahead.  Rosty Pidkova scored 12 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Marshall (3-14, 1-1).

Sunset Six League

L.A. Poly 70, Grant 64 -- Grant (9-8, 1-1) was once again led in the loss by junior guard Gino Riney who scored 26 points.

North Hollywood 73, Canoga Park 50 --Josiah James had 23 points for North Hollywood. Ray Jackson had 18 points for Canoga Park (4-12, 1-1).

Hollywood 64, Verdugo Hills 60 --Jonathon Ruzon made two free throws with 5.7 seconds left and finished with 16 points for Hollywood (7-9, 1-1). Dominique Willis had 17 with eight assists and Arturas Lazdauskas had 13 rebounds and 10 blocked shots for Hollywood.


Valley Mission League

Sylmar 99, Monroe 42 --Sylmar (10-5, 2-0) was led by Jeff Morse who scored 24 points and pulled down 12 rebounds and Frank Robinson who scored 16 and had 22 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 blocked shots.   Teammate Sam Harris finished with 17 points and Fernando Berreda had 14.  Every Sylmar player scored.   Monroe was led by James with 16;  no other Monroe players scored in double figures. 

Reseda 54, Kennedy 45--Reseda (9-3, 2-0) was led by Sergi Lepashinski with 17 and Estrada with 14.  Kennedy (8-9, 0-23) was led by Markeith Wheeler with 22.

Van Nuys 60, San Fernando 55--The Wolves (1-1 in league) were led by Lawrence Glover with 18, Andre Anduha with 16, and J.R. Rodriguez with 14.  San Fernando's leading scorers were D. Rodriguez with 18 and D. Jenkins with 22.  


West Valley League

Cleveland 68, Chatsworth 57-- Casey Bednash scored 15 points for Cleveland (9-7, 2-0).

Taft 57, El Camino Real 50-- Taft  (9-5, 1-1) struggled without its former leading scorer Mustafa Asghari who was removed from the team following Chatsworth's surprising upset win over Taft earlier this week.  Steve Smith, back from a knee injury, scored 19 points and 6-foot-9 sophomore center Ronnell Ramsey had 9.   El Camino was led by Rai Colston with 15. ECR (50)--Hunt 2, Warren 3, Traub 6, Rai Colston 15, Rodriguez 5, Wolfson 8, Perlus 9, Gibbs 2.  Taft (57)--Broadus 6, Stgeve Smith 19, Marshall 4, Vaughn 6, Grant 2, Marshall 4, Ramsey 9, Blunt 3.  ECR--11  18  8  12 --50;  Taft--11  18  12   16--57. 

Granada Hills 78, Birmingham 63--Granada Hills (1-1 in league) was led by Taku Vechi with 19.  Birmingham (5--7, 0-2) was led by Arman Shatring with 19 and Lauren Leith with 21.


Western League

Hamilton 62, Venice 57 --Frank Walter scored 24 points to lead host Hamilton (11-8, 3-1).

Westchester 87, Los Angeles 52-- Brandon Heath led Westchester (14-1, 4-0) with 17 points and five assists. Trevor Ariza added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Keith Everage had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Hassan Adams finished with 15 points and seven steals. Brandon Bowman had 11 points.
