McDonald's Invitational @ Pasadena CC:
Game 1: Artesia vs. Harvard-Westlake at Pasadena City College
Harvard Westlake 72, Artesia 61--We have no idea what actually happened in this game, because we weren't able to be there, and not a single newspaper covered the game, including the Times or the Daily News, both of which regularly cover H-W, and not the LB Press Telegram, which covers Artesia. Oh well, maybe someone will e-mail a box score so we'll be able to see how the Wolverines knocked off the Pioneers.
Game 2: Loyola vs. Chaminade at Pasadena City College, 2 p.m.
Loyola 94, Chaminade 69--The details of this game, like the H-W v. Artesia game, weren't picked up by any of the local papers, and unfortunately, we weren't there to see it. If anyone's got a boxscore or the details, e-mail them to us and we'll post it here. This was a league contest, and we would have expected at least a line or two in the Daily News, but nothing there today....
Game 3: Pasadena vs. Monrovia at Pasadena City College, 4 p.m.
Pasadena 45 Monrovia 36--Another game that apparently wasn't covered by any of the local papers, or if it was, they just forgot to print the results. Really, nothing in the Times, nothing in the Pasadena Star News (neither print nor internet), nothing in the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, nothing, nada.....We know Bryant Markson didn't play, but hey, we'd like to know how the rest of the guys in this one played.
Game 4: Fremont vs. Bishop Montgomery at Pasadena City College, 5:30 p.m.
Bishop Montgomery 67, LA Fremont 65-- [Details compiled from the Torrance Daily Breeze] Junior forward Fred Washington had a game-high 33 points, including 26 second-half points which helped Bishop Montgomery (17-5) rally back from a 10-point deficit at the half, 34-24, in the Game 4 win over LA Fremont (16-3). Bishop Montgomery was also led by senior Gavin Lee with 19 points. The Knights entered the fourth quarter trailing by just a point, 48-47, and Fremont went on an 8-2 run early, to extend the Pathfinders' lead to 56-49. Washington then hit a three, a free-throw and another field goal on a layup to tie the score at 57 all with just under four minutes. Lee gave the Knights their first lead with just under two minutes on a free throw and Washington extended it to four with another three-pointer, 61-57. The Pathfinders then scored on the next two possessions, making it a one-possession game, but didn't take advantage despite two missed free throw opportunities by the Knights. Mark Bradford had a chance to make it close, but missed the first of two free throws with three seconds remaining and Fremont trailing, 66-64. Bishop Montgomery senior Brandon Williams then made one of two free-throw attempts with one second remaining for the final margin. Fremont played most of the game without starting 6-foot-8 center Darren Brown, who couldn't participate due to the flu. Bishop Montgomery (67) M. Washington 3, Peace 7, Estrada 2, F. The Mustangs were led by Jamaal Hall, who scored 14 points. Muir has now dropped two games in two days, losing to Pacific League rival Pasadena on Friday.
Game 6: Glendora vs. La Canada at Pasadena City College, 8:30 p.m.
Glendora 70, La Canada 58--[From a reader e-mail] With Mark Moore on the bench after being ejected from Friday night's game, La Canada's guards played about as well as they could, playing even with Glendora through three quarters, but had a tough time in the fourth quarter as Glendora's combination of Larry Monroe, Mike Mehanna and Spencer Foster pulled away in the fourth quarter. We didn't get stats, or other details, but a reader sent us the final score, so if anyone has any more details on the game, we'd appreciate receiving them.
Lynwood Invitational Shootout @ Lynwood HS
Boys' Game 1: Long Beach Cabrillo vs. Serra at Lynwood
Serra 75, Cabrillo 37 -- [note, the score was reported differently in different papers: The LB Press Telegram had it at 75-37; the Torrance Daily Breeze had it at 73-37]. Even if there was a discrepancy in the reported scores, there was no doubt about the final outcome: Gardena Serra (20-2), behind Eugene Hackett's game-high 14 points, and six rebounds, extended its win streak to 11 games as the Cavaliers beat the Cabrillo Jaguars (9-10). Serra hasn't lost since the Calvary Chapel Downey tournament in December when the Cavaliers lost to Price. Senior football standout Loren Wade scored 10 points and seven rebounds, and senior point guard Eugene Jeter finished with seven points and nine assists, while Jeffrey Arnold added 12 points, six assists, seven rebounds and four steals for the Cavaliers. Serra jumped out to a lead of 18-8 at the end of the first quarter, and then cruised to a 38-19 halftime lead. In the third, it was more of the same, and in the fourth quarter Serra outscored the Jaguars 22-6. Serra's Conte Shumate pulled down nine rebounds, and Eric McNeal and Samir Hernandez each added six points. Cabrillo's leading scorer Jushay Rockett was held to seven points. Junior Eddie Patterson led the Jaguars with nine points. Boys' Game 2: Verbum Dei vs. Lynwood
Verbum Dei 69, Lynwood 53-- The Verbum Dei Eagles (16-3), ranked No. 2 by SoCalHoops in Division IV-A were led by Tai Turner with 14 points and Utah-signee Richard Chaney finished with 9 as the Lynwood Knights (5-9) fell at home. Lynwood was led by Daniel McCall with 15 points, and Marcus Minor with 10. Unfortunately, we didn't get to see this game, but our friend Louis Johnson at the Long Beach Press Telegram did, and here's the highlight he wrote about: "A five-point possession midway through the third quarter gave the Eagles (16-3) much-needed breathing room as they thwarted an upset bid by the host Knights (5-9). After Lynwood pulled within 33-30 on a basket by senior forward Marcus Minor (10 points), Verbum Dei got a jumper from Tai Turner (14 points), while a foul was whistled on Knights' guard Cash McCall. McCall compounded things by getting a technical foul. Utah signee Richard Chaney (nine points) sank one of the two technical shots before Turner returned to make another jump shot off of the ensuing inbounds play to increase the Eagles lead to 38-30. Lynwood then got no closer than seven points."

Corona Centennial 67, Ayala 61--Senior guard J.R. Reese scored 21 points and senior forward Dimitrius Alexander added 17 points as the Huskies (16-2) held off the Bulldogs (11-8).
