Here's what we know from Tuesday's games gathered from reports sent to us from team representatives, coaches, players and parents, as well as what we've been able to get from local newspapers and websites. If you know of a game that we missed, a score that is unreported, or some details that we're missing, send it in via e-mail.

CIF-Southern Section League Games, Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002

Academy League

Calvary Chapel Downey 106, Capistrano Valley Christian 41 --Calvary Chapel (17-4, 5-0), coming off a loss to Verbum Dei on Monday, pounded league rival Capo Valley Christian (5-12, 1-4). Five different Grizzly players scored in double figures and 13 players made two or more baskets, as Ralph Miley led the team with 14.

Sage Hill 44, Brethren Christian 42--Visiting Sage Hill (6-6, 3-2) came back from a nine-point deficit at the end of three to win on a layup with five seconds remaining by freshman Blake Brewer.   Junior point guard Erik Williams, freshman Matt Loper and sophomore Kevin Joyce each hit three-pointers within the first minute of the fourth quarter, and sophomore Mike Fitzhugh scored a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead over Brethren Christian. Williams finished with 7 points, 10 rebounds and three steals, while Joyce finished with 12 points. Agape League

Apple Valley Christian 64, Antelope Valley Christian 51 --Valley Christian (16-1, 5-0) was led by Kevin Dillon's 26 points, seven rebounds and 8 assists, and brother Josh Dillon's 20 points, seven assists and six steals in the win over Antelope Valley Christian (12-6, 4-1).  Apple Valley shot 29 free throws, while AVC only shot six times from the line.  AVC was led by Percy Pickett with 13 points. Kevin Dillon shot 6-of-11 from the three-point line for Apple Valley Christian.

Hesperia Christian 74, Victor Valley Christian 61--Junior center Nate Patterson and sophomore guard Josh Hamilton each had 17 points to lead Hesperia Christian (12-6, 3-2). Mark Milner had 23 points to lead Victor Valley Christian (1-4 in league).


Almont League

Bell Gardens 86, Alhambra 76 --Arsenio Ramirez scored 31 points Gary Klarer added 22 points for Bell Gardens (7-14, 3-2). Eric Chung scored 25 points for Alhambra (9-12, 2-3), and Robert Franco finished with 16 points.

Keppel 68, San Gabriel 53--details not immediately availalble

Montebello 69, Schurr 59 --Montebello (15-6, 5-0) was led by Ian Park's 28 points and 17 rebounds over visiting Schurr (3-2 in league).Jose Alvarado had 14 points and Christian Saenz 13 for the Oilers.  Jose Campos, who ended the game with nine points, helped fuel the Oilers' attack late in the second quarter with two 3-pointers that gave Montebello a 36-28 halftime lead.  Shawn Odita was the leading scorer for the Spartans (7-11, 3-2) with 12 points. Teammate Sean Odou had 11.


Alpha League

Village Christian 66, Pasadena Marshall 60--Village Christian (7-11, 2-2) was led by Jacob Briggs who scored 19 points in the win over Marshall (1-16, 0-4), which was led by Brian Edwards who scored 25 points in the loss.


American League

Stoneridge Prep 81, Renaissance Academy 54--details not immediately avaiable, as Stoneridge recovered from a surprising Saturday night loss to Valley Torah.


Arrowhead League

Hamilton 54, CSDR 50 (OT) --details not available.

Joshua Springs 78, Bethel Christian 47 --Sophomore guard Nathan Rynning scored 29 points for Joshua Springs (12-5, 2-3). Lyle Mongiano scored 23 for Bethel Christian (2-10, 0-4).  Junior Justin Peterson added 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Joshua Springs kept Bethel Christian winless in league. David Griffith added 12 points in the victory for Joshua Springs.

Bay League

Inglewood 69, Leuzinger 53--Ray Reed had 18 points and Jason McKinney added 14 points for Inglewood (17-4, 7-2) in the road win. Inglewood used an 18-8 first quarter to take control of the game. Dorell Wright led Leuzinger (7-13, 2-6) with 22 points.

Mira Costa 59, Morningside 38 --Greg Geier had a triple-double with 10 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds and Aaron Harris scored 27 points for Mira Costa (10-10, 4-4) in the road win over Morningside (3-17, 0-8) Mira Costa opened up a 19-6 first-quarter lead.Michael Atkins led Morningside (3-17, 0-8) with 18 points. Alan Goodwin finished with 10.

North Torrance 75, Santa Monica 55--North Torrance (11-8, 3-5) was led by Kenny Brown's 18 points and Jason Davis' 17 points. North Torrance blew the game open with a 24-16 second quarter in which Davis scored eight and Brown had seven.

Redondo 70, Peninsula 46 --Adam Zahn scored 22 points and seven rebounds to lead host Redondo Union (14-5, 8-0) in the win over Peninsula (14-7, 5-4).  Keith Ellison finished with 15 points, nine rebounds and seven assists and Wendell White had 15 points and three assists, while Eddie Topps finished with 10 points, six rebounds and four assists for Redondo.  Kevin Gardner led Peninsula with 15 points and eight rebounds. Zach Freeman added 11 points and Shawn Weinstein had 10 points. Peninsula had 20 turnovers in the loss.

 


Century League

El Modena 60, Villa Park 57--Jarard Rabb scored 26 points to lead El Modena (13-9, 4-1). Dan Church sank a pair of foul shots with 4.1 seconds remaining for the win. El Mo led 35-31 at halftime after going on an 8-0 run in the second quarter. Brice Prather finished with a game-high 31 points for Villa Park (18-3, 4-1), including two three-pointers. Brothers Tavon and Dominique Robinson led El Modena with 17 and 13 points, respectively.

Foothill 79, Canyon Anaheim 58 --Deshaun Edwards scored 18 points for Foothill (11-10, 2-3) in the win over Canyon (7-13, 2-3) which is in jeopardy of not qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in more than four years.  Mike Simon scored a team-high 12 points for Canyon. Francisco Flores tacked on 16 points and had 14 rebounds for the Knights, while teammate Brett Bigler scored 13 points and had 10 assists

Santa Ana Valley 52, Orange 48 --Brandon Rogers had 14 points and Enrique Flores had 13 for Santa Ana Valley (14-7, 3-2) in the win over Orange (13-8, 0-5), which was led by  Antonio Polk with 17 points.


Christian League

Calvary Chapel Murrieta 52, Woodcrest Christian 44--details not available.

Loma Linda Academy 64, Western Christian 59 --Junior guard Ryan Prior scored 24 points for Loma Linda Academy (13-4, 5-2) in the surprising upset win over Western Christian (14-7, 5-2).  Sophomore guard Chris Purdom added 17.  The Roadrunners' win puts them into a second place tie with Western Christian - both 5-2.  Western Christian - Ethan Chinn 19, Brandon Tussy 15, Blake Allison 7, Andrew Allison 6, Nestor Rodriguez 5, Thomas Sturgeon 4, Tim Booher 3. Ontario Christian 51, Linfield 39--Greg Talen scored 13 to lead host Ontario Christian (15-4, 5-2).  Junior Aric VanderZee scored the first points for Ontario Christian four minutes into the game, sparking a run that the Knights never looked back from as Ontario Christian defeated Temecula Linfield 51-39.  Travis Hoekstra finished with 12 points.  Matt Gabrielse and Don VandenBerg, who combined for 15 points for the Ontario Christian Knights.


Citrus Belt League

Eisenhower 86, Fontana 55 --Cory McJimson scored a game-high 27 points and Johnny Dukes added 19 points for Eisenhower (18-2, 5-0). Dukes scored 10 of his 19 points in the first quarter, including two of his three 3-pointers. Dukes also had 10 rebounds. McJimson, a transfer from Fontana, also grabbed eight rebounds, and scored 18 points in the second half, with 12 in the third quarter and two thunderous slam dunks in the fourth.   Fontana (7-9, 3-2) was led by Daryl Diggins who scored 21 points and grabbed five boards. Diggins hit three 3-pointers.
Sean Marshall was the only other Ike player in double digits scoring 15 and pulling down five rebounds.

Rialto 87, AB Miller 80-- Senior 5-10 guard Getano Johnson scored 23 points 14 in the second half and also had five assists and four steals as Rialto defeated visiting A.B. Miller 87-80 on Tuesday in a Citrus Belt League game.  Sophomore 6-3 forward Sean Green added 22 points and nine rebounds for the Knights (2-3 CBL, 11-10 overall), who rallied from a 35-30 halftime deficit and outscored the Rebels 31-22 in the third quarter. Senior 5-10 guard Kenny Autry had 17 points and six assists in the victory, while senior 6-1 forward Chris Fuller had nine rebounds. Jeremiah Ward had 24 points for Miller (3-2 CBL), while Victor Michel had 23.

Redlands 80, Redlands East Valley 55-- Redlands led 39-24 at the half and was led by Keith Earl's game-high 15 points.  Brandon D'Amico,. Bobby Kaura and Ryan Rogers each scored 12 points.  Anthony Smith led the REV Wildcats with 13 points and teammate Walter Wallace added 12.  Redlands East Valley - Billy Dowdy 4, Anthony Smith 13, Aaron Grijalva 2, Charles Cabuhat 6, Walter Wallace 12, Ted Salter 4, Jeff Kelley 4, Erik Bogh 2, Nate Dyk 7. Crossroads 57, Whitney 28--Visiting Crossroads (13-5, 6-0) was led by Robert Locke and Troy Brown who scored 15 points each.


Desert Valley League

Desert Hot Springs 53, Coachella Valley 52-- The Golden Eagles led by 15 points with two minutes remaining in the game and needed two Jason Edmonds free throws to seal the victory. Edmonds had 19 points as the Golden Eagles earned their first DVL victory of the season. Mateo Ortega added 14 points.

Indio 65, La Quinta 59-- The Indio Rajahs (13-7, 6-2) regained control of the game with four minutes to play when Chuy Perez made consecutive 3-pointers. He finished with five 3-pointers and 17 points. Earl Isaacson led Indio with 20 points while Daniel Cruz finished with 13 points.   For La Quinta, Paul St. Angelo had 22 points and Bill Matthews finished with 10.

Palm Desert 57, Palm Springs 31 -- Palm Desert (18-4, 8-0) remained undefeated in the Desert Valley League on Tuesday with a 57-31 victory against host Palm Springs (9-11, 3-4). Kevin Howard led the Indians with 13 points. Liberty Christian 88, Southlands Christian 51 --Visiting Liberty Christian (4-14, 2-3) was led by Patrick Doney who scored 41 points and teammate Corey Pickering who added 12 points and 22 rebounds.

Orangewood Academy 76, Eastside Christian 57 --details not available.

South Bay Lutheran 59, Pioneer Baptist 37 --Qyntyn Webb scored 14 to lead host South Bay Lutheran (7-2, 5-0) over Pioneer Baptist (0-11, 0-4).  Webb was 6-6 from the field and Dennis Boyd added 12 points and seven rebounds.


Foothill League

Saugus 58, Hart 52 --Marc Holmquist scored 19 points and Adrian Buencamino added 12 points for Saugus (12-8, 4-0) in the emotional win over Hart (17-4, 4-1), which was led by Mike Gentry and Adam Rich who each scored nine points.  It was Hart's first loss in 12 games, as Saugus gained sole possession of first place in the Foothill League with the victory, it's first game played since the death of Sheldon Bell last week in a car accident.

Freedom League

Masada 71, Wilson Creek 49--Sophomore 5-7 guard Mike Araya had 15 points, four steals and three assists, but the visiting Eagles (2-2, 5-9) fell to the Knights (3-1, 7-5) in a Freedom League game. Sophomore 6-1 forward Peter Schoop had 14 points and three rebounds for Wilson Creek.

Rio Contiguo 83, South Bay 21 --Rio Continguo (10-3) was led by C. Cooper who scored 29 points in the win.

Rio Rancho 82, Los Piños 75 --details not available.

Whitewater 121, Twin Pines 21 -- Shooting guard Damin Poss, who is 6-foot-7, scored a team-high 31 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the undefeated Saints. Saha Gebremichael had 15 points, 14 assists and an impressive 19 steals for Whitewater. Ron Adams, starting his first game, scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds. The Saints (15-0) are in first place in the Freedom League

Golden League

Antelope Valley 62, Highland 52-- Highland held Ollie Bradley, the focal point of Antelope Valley's (14-7, 3-2) offense, to six points. However, Bradley, who normally plays forward, started at point guard and was instrumental in getting his teammates involved in a balanced attack.  Keith Adderly scored 11 points and John Holland had 10 for the Antelopes . Eight Antelope Valley players scored six points or more.   Highland center David Kennedy (6'-9" Sr. C) had 18 rebounds.  Tre Peters scored 14 points and Mike Stevenson had 10 for the Bulldogs (10-9, 3-2).  The Bulldogs trailed early and pulled to within three, 33-30, midway in the third quarter, but the Antelopes gradually pulled away.

Lancaster 68, Quartz Hill 63 (OT) --Michael Webb scored 24 points and Charles Jones added 11 to lift host Lancaster (16-5, 4-1) over Quartz Hill (2-3 in league). Barron Harrell scored 28 for Quartz Hill.

Harbor League

Rolling Hills Prep 79, Lighthouse Christian 51 -- Curtis Allen led host Rolling Hills Prep (11-5, 3-1) with 27 points, including three 3-pointers and 13 rebounds. Rolling Hills Prep jumped to a 15-6 first quarter lead and never looked back. Jason Dailey scored 12 points, Isaiah Smith added 11 and D.J. Wright finished with 12 assists.


Heritage League

Grace Brethren 60, Faith Baptist 42 --Evan Marme had 20 points to lead Grace Brethren (8-8, 4-1) as the Lancers moved into a tie for first place by handing the Contenders (5-9, 4-1) their first league defeat. Faith Baptist was led by Johnny Case with a game-high 25
points.

L.A. Lutheran 67, Pilgrim 51 --Derrick Olson had 20 points and 10 rebounds for L.A. Lutheran (11-7, 3-2) in the win over Pilgrim (0-4 in league).


High Desert League

Kern Valley 71, Bishop 41 --Kern Valey (10-7, 3-4) was led by Jordan Hughes who scored 28 points with 10 rebounds and eight assists in the win over Bishop, which dropped to 2-5 in league.

Mojave 72, Frazier Mountain 37 --L.D. Cox scored 15 to lead host Mojave (9-8, 5-2) over Frazier Mountain (3-14, 1-6).

Rosamond 118, Vasquez 33 --Craig Tunnell scored 27 points for Rosamond (15-4, 7-0).


Hi-Lo League

International League

Calvary Baptist 64, Pacific Christian 37 --Charles Andrews scored a game-high 23 points to go along with five assists and five steals as the Cougars (7-7, 1-3) clawed past the Panthers. Calvary Baptist jumped out to a 20-4 lead after one quarter and never looked back. Roma Smith recorded a double-double with 17 points and 24 rebounds.

Liberty League

Buckley 68, Holy Martyrs 61 --Griffin sophomore forward Baron Abdul-Mansour hit 11 of 15 shots from the field (all two pointers) and made 13 of 14 from the free-throw line to finish with 35 points.  Senior point guard David Gale added 12 points, nine assists and 6 steals for host Buckley (11-5, 5-2). Hagop Darbajian scored 20 to lead Holy Martyrs (8-10, 3-6) which earlier upset the Griffins in overtime at Holy Martyrs.

Viewpoint 55, Windward 40 --Matt Mosko had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and John Murray scored 19 points for Viewpoint (8-7, 3-5). Ethan Emerson scored 30 points for Windward (10-8, 4-6).


Metro League

California Lutheran 54, Calvary Chapel Redlands 32--Sophomore 5-8 guard Ryan Rosebeary had 14 points, but the visiting Bears (1-8, 2-15) fell to the C-hawks (3-2, 3-12) in a Metro League game. Sophomore 5-9 guard Josiah Lee added eight points and eight rebounds for Calvary Chapel/Redlands, while junior 6-1 forward Billy Ray McGee had 10 rebounds and junior 5-10 forward Josh Paugh had nine rebounds.

Desert Chapel 84, Upland Christian 53 --Nathan Law scored 24 points and Mike Sloan had 20 for Desert Chapel (10-3, 5-1). Nick Roberds scored 17 for Upland Christian (13-6, 7-2). Trailing 23-5 after one quarter, the Eagles never recovered. Nick Roberds also grabbed six rebounds in the defeat. The Eagles moved into second place in the Metro League with the blowout victory.  Reed Ritchie scored 15 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had five assists. John Hackbarth scored 11, while twin brother, Paul, added 10.

Lake Arrowhead Christian 82, Cornerstone Christian Wildomar 70-- Sophomore 5-10 guard Gerry Conedy had 28 points and seven assists as the Eagles (6-8, 4-4) defeated the visiting Crusaders (3-5 in league) in a Metro League game. Senior 6-1 forward Steven Kinsley added 13 points, eight rebounds, nine assists and five steals for Lake Arrowhead Christian, while sophomore 5-9 guard Dan McCollister had 18 points and seven rebounds and sophomore 5-10 guard John Moody had 17 points.Josh Paul scored 25 to lead Wildomar Cornerstone Christian (3-5 in league).

Riverside Christian 86, Christian Center Academy 23 --Ryan Klix scored 25 points for Riverside Christian (9-2, 6-0).


Miramonte League

Diamond Ranch 74, Garey 59--Junior center Michael Earl had 16 points, 11 rebounds, six blocks and five steals to lead Diamond Ranch (11-8, 2-3). Evan Flagg had 10 points and five rebounds, Delano Gray had 14 points, including 8-for-8 from the charity stripe for the Panthers in the win.

Pomona 67, Los Altos 57-- Pomona (16-5, 5-0) jumped to a 16-point lead after three quarters and then held off a late run by the Conquerors (11-10,3-2). Odell Howard had a game-high 23 points and pulled down 18 rebounds for Pomona.  Josh Huerta added 14 points in the win for the Red Devils.

Omega League

San Fernando Valley 40, Skyward Christian 17--Nathaniel Sevilla scored 14 points and Chris Estay had 13 points for San Fernando Valley Academy (3-7, 3-2). Skyward Christian slipped to 2-5, 2-3 in league.

Newbury Park Adventist 68, Westmark 28--details not available

Ventura County Christian 64, Trinity Lutheran 51-- Ventura County Christian (3-3, 3-1) was led in the road victory by Will Hernandez who recorded 25 points and 19 rebounds. Mike Alavarez scored 22 points and Will Arthur had 12.


Pacific League

Crescenta Valley 61, Muir 56 --Crescenta Valley (15-6, 4-1) was led by junior shooting guard Jimmy Goffredo who scored 14 of his 23 points in the fourth quarter, and senior point guard Chris Tarne who finished with 19 points in the win over Muir (18-3, 3-2) which lost its third straight. Devon Thomas scored 15 points to lead Muir, which dropped from first place in league to third in the span of five days. Tarne scored 18 of his 19 points on 8-11 shooting. Hoover 80, Arcadia 56 --Haik Stepanyan scored 23 points and Armen Baghdasarian had 21 points and six assists for Hoover (9-11, 1-4). Brent Dohling scored 21 points and Dante Owens had 18 points for Arcadia (11-9, 0-5).

Pasadena 64, Glendale 46 --MacKenzie Clark scored 14 points to lead visiting Pasadena (17-4, 5-0). Pasadena has now won 17 of its last 18 games. Isa Hall had 12 points and 8 rebounds for Glendale (10-11, 2-3).  Pasadena 18 19 17 10 -- 64 Glendale 12 10 10 14 -- 46

Flintridge Prep 44, Rio Hondo Prep 40 --Mike Miller made a 17-footer with 3.5 seconds remaining to put Flintridge ahead, 42-40, in the Prep League game. Flintridge is 6-11, 4-1; Rio Hondo falls to 9-7, 3-2.

Chadwick 52, Pasadena Poly 40  --Matt Fournier led host Chadwick (9-4, 5-0) with 16 points, including three 3-pointers and seven assists. Andrew Vickers added 11 points and seven rebounds. The two combined for 13 points in a 19-6 third quarter that put the game away. San Grogonio 66, Colton 63 --Daryl Leach scored 19 to lead San Grogonio (16-5, 4-1) at Colton (7-12, 1-4).

Yucaipa 74, Pacific 63--Junior 6-4 forward Matt Brown scored 19 points as the visiting Thunderbirds (3-2, 16-4) defeated the Pirates in a San Andreas League. Senior 6-3 forward Shane Craig added 15 points and seven rebounds for Yucaipa, while senior 6-1 guard Thad Orr also had 15 points. Senior forward Anthony Bradley had 22 points for Pacific, which trailed just 30-29 at halftime. Aleem Harris had 17 points for the Pirates.

West L.A. Baptist 69, Highland Hall 56 --Tomas Johnson scored 21 of his 42 points and hit five of his eight three-pointers in West L.A. Baptists' 29-point fourth quarter in a Westside League victory at Highland Hall. Highland Hall led, 42-20, after the end of the third quarter. West L.A. Baptist is 6-3, 4-1.

Apple Valley 67, Silverado 64 --Will Logan’s rebound and basket in the final half minute along with senior guard Carlton Murphy's basket at the buzzer gave Apple Valley (16-3) the win over Silverado (13-8).   Logan’s basket on the Sun Devils’ third attempt on the offensive end allowed them to outscore the Hawks 6-0 in the final 1:08 and come back from a 64-59 deficit with 1:20 left. Silverado inbounded the ball, but never attempted a shot that could have won the game. Carlton Murray, who led the Sun Devils with 20 points, stole the ball from Jaimie Lester with five seconds left and his lay up as time expired accounted for the final margin. Apple Valley grabbed eight offensive rebounds in the final 1:08 after missing three free throws and five in the fourth quarter.  Jamal Holden, who had 19 points, was held scoreless in the fourth quarter after hitting three 3s in the third. Arrowhead Christian 111, CEDU 50--Senior 6-5 center Josh Breckley had a game-high 25 points and also had 17 rebounds and four blocks as Arrowhead Christian Academy (11-6) defeated visiting CEDU (5-6) in a nonleague game. Sophomore 5-11 forward Mark Johnson added 11 points for ACA, while junior forward Jacob Goltry had 10 points, eight assists and five steals.
