Here's what we know from Wednesday's games gathered from reports sent to us from team representatives, coaches, players and parents, as well as what we've been able to get from local newspapers and websites. If you know of a game that we missed, a score that is unreported, or some details that we're missing, send it in via e-mail.

CIF-Southern Section League Games, Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002

Camino Real League

Cantwell Sacred Heart 67, St. Anthony 52--Cantwell (6-13, 1-4) was led by Barry Cox who scored 22 points and Jason Ngo had 20.  St. Anthony junior guard Eric Camanag scored 24 points and had 5 3-pointers but the Saints (3-10) continued to struggle.


Condor League

Laguna Blanca 55, Thacher 49--Andy Nelson had 22 points and 10 rebounds as Laguna Blanca (7-8, 4-1) won a first-place showdown yesterday, getting 10 points and 11 rebounds from Rick Jeffrey and 11 points and five steals from Eric Geeb. Thacher -- Sullivan 11, Douds 12, Madigan 7, Willoughby 7, Ma 12. Total 49. Laguna Blanca-- Geeb 13, Hicks 7, Jeffrey 10, Kaufman 3, Nelson 22. Total 55. Ojai Valley 42, Cornerstone Christian 40--Host Ojai Valley was led by Sinclair Walker who scored 16 points and Kevin Hultman who added 13. Cornerstone Christian (5-9, 4-2) was led by Thomas Miller with 14 points. Kevin Giles added 11. Cornerstone Christian (40) -- Giles 11, Jones 3, Miller 14, Smith 2, June 1, Reed 9. Ojai Valley (42) -- Juang 2, Huang 9, Lien 2, Hultman 13, Walker 16.   Cornerstone Christian --12 6 13 9--40 Ojai Valley--6 16 13 7--42 3-Point goals -- Cornerstone Christian 2 (Giles 1, Miller 1). De Anza League

Aquinas 51, Beaumont 49--Senior 5-8 shooting guard Glenn Ohaeri scored 16 points for Aquinas (9-6, 6-3), in addition to getting 16 rebounds and five steals as visiting Aquinas defeated Beaumont (1-8 in league). Senior 6-2 forward Matt Sepuya and had a season-high 15 points, despite suffering a concussion in the third quarter for the Falcons.

Twentynine Palms 81, Notre Dame 61 --Ken Randle scored 20 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, while Dynamite Matthews had 19 rebouns and 15 points for host Twentynine Palms (13-6, 7-2) in the win over Riverside Notre Dame (11-8, 6-3) who were led by Talani Calhoun with a game-high 40 points, including 6 three-pointers and shooting 12-13 from the line.  He scored 17 of the Titans' 21 points in the second quarter. . Paul Barazza had 11 assists and nine points for Twentynine Palms.


Del Rio League

La Serna 54, Whittier 47 --La Serna (11-12, 3-3) was led by Matt Spain who had 20 points over visiting Whittier. Teammate John Picone added 18 points and 15 rebounds for the Lancers.

Pioneer 70, California 63 --The Pioneer Titans (3-16, 2-4) held the California Condors (3-17, 1-5) to 11 points in the third quarter, and David Ochoa and Carlos Martinez each scored 26 points for Pioneer. Martinez also had 15 rebounds. Matt Amiel had 31 points for California.

Santa Fe 81, El Rancho 56 --Robert Ruiz scored 25 points for host Santa Fe (8-13, 3-3) and Bobby Miller scored 13 points for El Rancho (10-11, 5-1).  Cyrus Mirabueno added 15 for Santa Fe, while Daniel Carrera contributed another 12 points for El Rancho.


Empire League

Century 43, Katella 31--David Sok's 15 points led the host Centurions (14-7, 3-2) over the Knights (12-9, 2-3).

Cypress 69, Loara 66--Cypress (15-6, 3-2) defeated Loara's (16-5, 3-2) fourth quarter rally to pick up the win.

El Dorado 45, Kennedy 42--Kyle Miller scored 17 points for the host Golden Hawks (17-4, 3-2).


Garden Grove League

Bolsa Grande 92, Santiago 70 --Visiting Bolsa Grande (16-6, 7-1) was led by Omar Amaral with 31 points in three quarters and David Doan who had 18 points. Santiago is 3-2 in league.


Los Padres League

Santa Ynez 80, Morro Bay 70 --UCLA-signee Matt McKinney (6'-8" Sr. F) scored 38 points and had 18 rebounds and Aaron Richman added 28 points for Santa Ynez (9-10, 4-1) in the win over Morro Bay (5-14, 0-5).  Morro Bay was led by Derek Dickson who scored 20 points. McKinney had two 3-pointers and was 8-for-8 on free throws. Santa Ynez-- Clark 4, McKinney 38, A. Richman 28, Urton 10. Total 80.  Morro Bay-- Brookey 1, Dixon 20, Williams 16, Anderson 16, Gibson 3, Van Coops 10, Boucher 2, A. Cecchettini 2. Total 70.  Santa Ynez--20 27 8 25 -- 80 Morro Bay --28 22 5 15 -- 70   3-pointers--SY 4 (McKinney 2, A.Richman 2), MB 6 (Dixon 2, Williams 4). Record--SY: 4-1 LPL, 9-10.

St. Joseph Santa Maria 55, Paso Robles 52--Joe Tilley scored 17 and Stewart Kussler added 12 as St. Joseph improved to 10-10, 4-1 in the Los Padres League.


Marmonte League

Agoura 72, Royal 48 (3OT)--Kevin Cornwell had 15 points and seven rebounds to lead host Agoura (6-13, 1-6). Steven Keglevic scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Bobby Lyons added 13 points. Joel Hendershot had 19 points for Royal (9-11, 3-4) and Kyle Vondrak scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Thousand Oaks 51, Moorpark 38 --Kevin Rex had 14 points for Thousand Oaks (18-3, 7-0) i the win over host Moorpark (12-9, 3-4). Kevin Rex scored 14 points and Dave Anderson who added 11 for T.O. Moorpark was led byh Jose Rodriguez who scored a team-high eight points.  Thousand Oaks (51) -- Rex 14, Anderson 11, Olson 9, Meyers 8, Mazza 4, Sletten 2, Handlos 1, Grosslight 2. Simi Valley 91, Westlake 88 (3OT)-- KC Bellefontaine had 28 points for Simi Valley (14-7, 4-3).  David Young had 24 points and PJ Isaacson had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Westlake (9-10, 2-5) Gabriel Duarte added 15 for Simi.  Isaacson twice sent the game into an extra period.  Rob Daniel scored 17 points.


Mission Valley League

Gabrielino 59, Rosemead 46 --Gabrielino (12-8, 4-1) was led by Sean Carey who scored 22, while Mario Cobian scored 19 for Rosemead (9-12, 1-4).

Arroyo 41, El Monte 23 --J.J. Bottger finished with 12 points for Arroyo (9-12, 3-2) in the win over El Monte.


Montview League

Duarte 53, Bassett 52 --London Lee hit a free throw with two seconds left for Duarte (7-11, 3-2). Sal Rios scored 14 points for host Bassett (3-16, 2-3). The Falcons trailed, 39-33, entering the fourth quarter, but rallied to tie the score at 52 before the Olympians' Ivan Velasco committed an ill-advised foul to put Lee on the line.  After putting Duarte up by one, Lee purposely missed the second free throw to help run out the clock. Randall Greene, who scored a game-high 19 points, pulled down the rebound for the Falcons and time expired.  Hamzah El Amin had 13 points for Duarte, which improved to 4-1 in league.  Velasco finished with nine.

Workman 76, Gladstone 31 --Derek Fowler had 13 points to lead host Workman (11-7, 5-0).


Moore League

Long Beach Wilson 53, Compton 43--Junior guard Kevin Crockett scored 12 points and senior guard Nick Buckley had 10 as the Bruins (8-13, 1-5) defeated the visiting Tarbabes (0-6 league).

Lakewood 69, Long Beach Cabrillo 67--Senior forward Ese Lemusu scored all of his eight points in the second half, including the winning basket off a steal in the closing seconds to lead the Lancers (16-2, 5-1) over the Jaguars.  Senior Terrell McLaurin led Lakewood with 28 points with 4 assists.

Millikan 47, Long Beach Jordan 45--Junior guard Marcus Dove was 9 for 10 from the free-throw line en route to scoring 21 points as the Rams (12-7, 4-2) beat visiting Jordan (3-4 in league).


Mountain View League

Corona Centennial 75, Santiago 67 --Centennial (17-2, 5-0) was led by Kevin Rogers' 20 points, while Deon Simpson scored 13 points for Santiago (15-5, 4-1).   The first half saw two technical fouls and 18 personal fouls assessed.   Centennial's senior guard J.R. Reese added 19 points  while Josh Black led the Sharks with 14.  Centennial center Lance Soderberg put back a missed free throw with 1:47 to give the Huskies a secure six-point lead, and in the first quarter threw down a huge dunk but was then called for throwing an elbow.  Santiago's Bryan LeDuc was called for a personal and technical foul on Nyk Peppers in the first quarter. Reese was given a technical in the first half.  Soderberg finished with 12.


Northern League

Arroyo Grande 69, Righetti 64 --Host Arroyo Grande (8-12, 3-3) was again led by Scott Buhl, who scored 21 points.

Lompoc 78, San Luis Obispo 63 --Senior forward Joel Smith, fully recovered from an early season injury,  had 28 points for visiting Lompoc (14-5, 6-0). Anthony English added 20 points. Evan Dimmitt had 23 points for San Luis Obispo.


Ocean League

Beverly Hills 63, Culver City 62 (OT) --Beverly Hills (still doubtful for the playoffs) scored at the buzzer in overtime at Culver City behind Isaac Aftalion's 26 points. Michael Bumpus and Austin Waggener each had 19 points for Culver City (5-10, 2-6).

Compton Centennial 61, South Torrance 39--Senior forward Darius Sanders scored 20 points and had 10 rebounds to lead a balanced Apaches attack as Centenial improved its overall record to 18-0 and 7-0 in league play.

El Segundo 68, Hawthorne 57-- Jeramie Hopson  and Dashawn Strong combined for 20 of El Segundo's 28 fourth-quarter points as the Eagles (18-3, 7-1) held off the host Cougars (4-13, 1-6). Hopson had 11 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter and grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds. Strong had nine of his 14 points in the fourth quarter and added 12 rebounds and six assists. Mike McCullough contributed 14 points, a season-high. Tino Gomez  and Deandre Mathieu each added nine points for El Segundo. Michael Washington led Hawthorne with 19 points, and Jamaar Sloan had 15.

West Torrance 55, Torrance 46 --Dewayne Holyfield scored 19 points for host West Torrance (10-10, 6-2), which had only a two point halftime lead but managed to pull out the win over visiting Torrance (8-12, 3-5) by outscoring Torrance 19-5 in the third, a quarter in which Hollyfield scored 8 of his 19;  Hollyfield also finished with seven boards, while Brad Dolick added 14 points and Chris Brown finished with 10 for West Torrance. Marshawn Williams led Torrance with 10 points.


Omega League

Ventura County Christian 61, Westmark 45-- Visiting Ventura County Christian (4-3, 4-1) was led by Will Hernandez, who scored a game-high 26 points while Mike Alvarez added 16 in the win over Westmark (1-6, 1-4). Ventura County Christian (61) -- Alvarez 16, Arthur 9, Carlson 2, Gonzalez 4, Hernandez 26, Mizenhimer 4. Westmark (45) -- Smith 19, Katz 6, Stevens 4, Davis 4, Dimodica 9, Novilla 3.  Ventura Co. Christian 16 24 9 12--61 Westmark 7 15 5 18--45 3-Point goals -- Westmark (Smith 2, Katz 2, Novilla 1). Fouled out -- None. Rebounds -- Ventura County Christian (Arthur 8). Team records -- Ventura County Christian 4-3, 4-1; Westmark 1-6, 1-4.


Orange League

Brea Olinda 71, Valencia 53--Eric Giesler scored 19 points and Evan Moore added 17 for the host Wildcats (15-6, 5-0).

Savanna 64, Magnolia 57 --Turmel Woods had 26 points and six rebounds and Curt Watson had 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for host Savanna (9-12, 4-1). R.J. Weston had 18 points for Magnolia (5-14, 2-3).


Pacific Coast League

Costa Mesa 48, Laguna Beach 43--Costa Mesa (13-8, 2-3) was led by Chad Vakili who scored 20 points and senior point guard David Conte who added 14 in the win over Laguna Beach (6-11, 2-3) which was led by Trevor Lyle with 17.  The game was delayed for 25 minutes when Laguna Beach Coach Rob Cullinan's grandfather, Bob, 83, passed out in the stands. Paramedics came on the scene within five minutes of Bob Cullinan's collapse, but could not revive a pulse or breathing. He was taken to Hoag Hospital. Coach Cullinan chose to resume action. Laguna Beach 10 6 14 13 - 43 Costa Mesa 13 16 7 12 - 48 Laguna Beach - Duker 9, Ridet 0, Lyle 17, Boyd 2, Gabbard 6, Renault 2, Leahy 2, Norfleet 3, Sands 2. 3-pt. goals - Gabbard 1, Norfleet 1. Northwood 67, Corona del Mar 54 --The Northwood Timberwolves (17-3, 5-0) were led by junior forward Drew Terry with 13 points and Shaun Bailey with 12 in the win over CDM.  Northwood outscored CDM 21-0 in the first half for the home win. 

University 68, Estancia 57-- The host University Trojans (14-7, 4-1) were led by sophomore Jon Asnon with 21 points and sophomore A.J. Moskus with 16 points in the win over Estancia (11-10, 2-3) which was led by Fernando Maldonado, who made seven three-pointers and had 25 points in the loss. Estancia led 29-26 at the half.  Junior center Joey Lindquist also scored 18 points for Estancia and grabbed 11 rebounds, two steals and one block, while Maldonado shot 7-10 from three.  University point guard Matt Cachola had a game-high six assists. Rio Hondo League

La Canada 61, South Pasadena 51 --Host La Canada (17-4, 5-0) was led by Mark Moore with 17 points and 15 rebounds, while junior point guard Billy Hofman added 17 points and six assists.

Monrovia 56, San Marino 27 --Even without their star player, Utah-signee Bryant Markson who reinjured his ACL last week and is now out for the season, Monrovia had an easy time of it against San Marino.  Nate Thorns had 16 points to lead visiting Monrovia (11-10, 3-2).  Richard Bourne added seven points and 17 rebounds.


San Gabriel Valley League

Dominguez 84, Lynwood 62--Senior guard Keion Kindred scored 24 points and senior forward Deion Marcus had 17 as the Dons (10-11, 4-1) defeated the visiting Knights (5-14, 1-4).

Downey 58, Paramount 52 --Senior guard Aaron Perez scored eight of his 14 points in the last three minutes to help the Downey Vikings (14-7, 5-0) come from behind and beat the visiting Paramount Pirates (12-10, 0-5).

Gahr 56, Warren 49 -- The host Gahr Gladiators (8-14, 3-2) were led by junior forward Vincent Porter who scored 24 points and senior forward Jo Jo Parcell who scored 15.


Santa Fe League

La Salle 78, Cathedral 63 --Mark Kelley scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for La Salle (15-5, 5-0). Ralph Pineda scored 24 points for Cathedral (8-9, 2-3).

Murphy 63, Bell-Jeff 38 --Justin Turman had 25 points and 16 rebounds to lead host Murphy (14-7, 4-1), which led, 32-7, at halftime. Ryan Johnson had 17 points and Tyler Kealey had 15 for Bell-Jeff (11-8, 3-2).


Sea View League

Woodbridge 77, Aliso Niguel 53 -- Sophomore center David Burgess finished with a team-high 19 points and pulled down 13 rebounds for Woodbridge (14-87, 3-1) in the win over Aliso Niguel (5-17, 1-3).


Sierra League

Ayala 64, Damien 50 --Dan Larson scored 20 points for Ayala (13-8, 4-1), which helped Coach Tom Gregory record his 400th career victory. Josh Phillips scored 13 points for Damien (8-13, 1-4). Larson also grabbed nine rebounds, Justin Davenport added 12 points and the coach's son, Kyle, finished with 11 points and six assists. Zach Phillips paced Damien (8-13, 1-4) with 13 points. 

Diamond Bar 76, Nogales 71 (OT)--Diamond Bar was led by Brandon Papez with 27 points and 10 rebounds.  The Brahmas (11-10, 4-1) outscored Nogales 9-2 in overtime for the win.  Terry Sims also added 12 points and seven boards.  Papez scored six of the 9 points in overtime. Playing without Khalif Ford, who sat out due to illness, Diamond Bar took the lead in the second quarter and held on to it until late in regulation when the Nobles tied the score with five seconds left. Nogales scored the first two points in overtime. Quentin Rogers led Nogales with 21 points

Rowland 60, West Covina 57 (OT) --Larry Tien made 7 of 8 from the free-throw line in overtime for Rowland (15-6, 4-1). Tieu led Rowland with 17 points. Gary McIntosh scored 21 points for West Covina (13-8, 2-3), including five 3-pointers, shooting 3 for 3 from behind the line in overtime, but it wasn't enough.  A five-point first quarter and a 14-point first half forced the Bulldogs into a game of catch-up. West Covina missed its first nine shots and 11 of its 13 first-quarter attempts. The Bulldogs' only first-quarter points came by way of junior guard Jabir Jinna's transition layup off a steal at midcourt with 2:52 to play and a 3-pointer by Cory McIntosh as time expired.   The Bulldogs finished 5 of 28 from the field and 5 of 11 from the free-throw line in the first half.  Rowland's first half production was also low, 21 points on 8-of-21 shooting.  The Raiders scored only one fourth-quarter field goal and shot 6 of 12 from the line in the fourth. Jabar Jinna had 17 points for West Covina.


Southwestern League

Murrieta Valley 59, Chaparral 45-- Will Campbell, who transferred from Murrieta Valley, led Chaparral with a game-high 21, but it wasn't enough as the Pumas fell.   Campbell was 10 of 21 from the floor and also led Chaparral (14-9, 1-3) with nine rebounds. Murrieta (11-10, 2-2) had  three players in double figures, and outrebounded the Pumas by seven in the second half. The Nighthawks held a three-point lead, 28-25, at the half, and was able to pull away in the third quarter. Sophomore guard A.J. McGregor, who finished with 12 points, began the quarter with a 3-pointer. Cameron Porter pushed the lead to double digits, 44-33, with a putback. Porter finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.  Chaparral, which got 12 points from Allen Craig, got as close as 48-41 in the fourth quarter on a leaner by Brent Chodola. Senior Bryan Ricks led Murrieta with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Temecula Valley 58, Temescal Canyon 55-- Stuart Shepherd scored 21 points on seven 3-pointers, the last one coming with 30 seconds on the clock to lift Temecula Valley. The win moved the Bears (16-7, 2-2 league) into a three-way tie for second place with Murrieta Valley (10-10, 2-2) and Temescal (12-8, 2-2). Tyler Combs was the only other Temecula player to score in double figures, with 10 points. Temescal had four players in double digits, including Mike Peterson with 13-point effort, Marty Wing and Matt Twamley with 12 each and Josh Garrett with 11.


Suburban League

Artesia 71, Cerritos 56 --Kejuan Johnson scored 24 points for Artesia (12-6, 5-1). The Pioneers will play Mayfair for first place in league.  Cerritos fell to 2-4 in league.

Mayfair 65, Bellflower 57 --Senior guard Matt McCraw scored 19 points for host Mayfair (14-6, 6-0) and junior forward Justin Hawkins had 15 as the Monsoons (14-6, 6-0) defeated the visiting Buccaneers (10-11, 3-3).

Norwalk 66, Glenn 54--Senior forward Zack Hall 14 points and junior guard Dwayne Murray scored 12 points to lead the Lancers (1-5) over the Eagles (0-6 league).


Sunkist League

Riverside ML King 75, Bloomington 66 -- Point guard Marvin Lea scored 35 points for host King (17-3, 5-0).  Senior guard Durrell Thomas scored a team-high 19 points for the Bruins (7-11, 2-3) in their loss to the Wolves  The Bruins were tied with three minutes to go, before the Wolves' Marvin Lea took control down the stretch.


Tri-Valley League

Oak Park 67, Bishop Diego 56 --Grant Smith had 21 points and Nick Smith 20 for host Oak Park (15-6, 4-0);  Smith scored also grabbed seven rebounds while point guard Monte McNair had 17 points, including four 3-pointers, and six assists. Bishop Diego (9-12, 1-3) was led by Pat Minehan who scored 27 points including five 3-pointers. Bishop Diego -- Minehan 27, Brown 5, Boehm 7, Aijian 6, Cavaletto 7, Elmerick 2, Schnedier 2. Totals 19 12-16 56. Oak Park -- G. Smith 20, McNair 17, Winningham 3, Tom 4, Testan 2, N. Smith 21. St. Bonaventure 63, Carpinteria 53 --Ernie Lopez hit six 3-pointers and scored 20 points but it wasn't enough as visiting St. Bonaventure (11-7, 2-2) beat Carpinteria (7-9, 2-2).  Clay Hertel also scored 25 points and dished out six assists for the Bonnies. Whitney Lewis scored 19 points and 10 rebounds.  St. Bonaventure---- Hertel 23, Boriaro 5, Dolimar 2, Cummings 7, Miller 2, Lewis 22, Fisher 3. Total 20 19-25 64. Carpinteria--E. Valle Vista League

Bonita 80, Baldwin Park 73 (OT) --Justin Miller had 23 points and 7 rebounds to lead visiting Bonita (13-7, 6-2), which rallied from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter, and teammate Mike Clark added 20 points. Kris Lewis and Geary Thompson each had 22 points for Baldwin Park (6-12, 3-5).  After going scoreless in the first two minutes of overtime, Mike Clark hit a 3-pointer that gave Bonita a 71-70 lead to put Bonita up for good. Bonita's Nik Cannan tied the score at 68-68 on a free throw with nine seconds in regulation. Bonita outscored the Braves 12-5 in overtime.  The Bearcats' full-court press allowed them to rally from a 15-point deficit with six minutes left in the game. The Bearcats, who also received 13 points from Korey Johnson, trailed by as many as 18 points in the first half.

Covina 76, Sierra Vista 44 --Jino La Bomme had 21 points to lead host Covina (16-4, 5-2).  Eleven players got in the scoring column for the Colts. In addition to La Bomme, Brett Pill had 15, and Vernon Covington 11 for Covina. Gabriel Beltran had 15 for Sierra Vista with 15 points.

San Dimas 72, Northview 56 --Curtis Small had 24 points to lead host San Dimas (16-4, 8-0). Antouan Mesropian added 20 points. Mesropian made eight of nine shots from the field and had nine rebounds for the Saints. Mesropian is shooting 64 percent from the floor this season.  San Dimas (16-4, 8-0) received a team-high 24 points from Curtis Small. Martelo Nelson led the Vikings with 16 points. The Saints, winners of the last nine Valle Vista League titles, blew open the game against the Vikings with a 30-15 third-quarter run.  Ryan Gunderson scored 10 points to complete the double-digit scoring.

Ganesha 79, South Hills 30 --Michael Efevberha had 32 points to lead visiting Ganesha (17-4, 7-1). Chris Reaves added 24 points for Ganesha, including 10 in the first quarter. Ganesha broke the game wide open in the first half, leading 31-5 at one point in the second quarter.


Westside League

West L.A. Baptist 74, Hillcrest Christian 68 --West L.A. Baptist (7-3, 5-1), led by Tomas Johnson's game-high 36 points, upset visiting GH Hillcrest Christian (10-6, 6-2).  Senior guards Jason Haddad and Johnathon Oronoz scored 29 and 21 points, respectively, for Hillcrest in the loss.

Acaciawood 71, Eastside Christian 60--Jessie Cope scored 32 points for Acaciawood (8-6) over Eastside Christian (4-12).

Elsinore 67, Paloma Valley 37 --Travon Keahey scored 21 points for Elsinore (17-5). Paloma Valley is 2-18.

Kilpatrick 68, Villanova 60--details not available.

Santa Paula 69, Fillmore 51--Alex Rico had 21 points and 12 rebounds for Santa Paula (11-9). Santa Paula's Andrew Zwers also scored 18 points by knocking down six 3-pointers. Josh Yanez scored 13 points. Fillmore (10-8) was led by Cortlin Handly who scored 11 points, Jordan Arroyo with 10 and Armando Ferrer added 10. Coliseum League

Crenshaw 86, Fremont 82 --Fremont (16-4, 3-2) attempted a rally from an 18-point halftime deficit, and even managed a three-point lead late in the game, but Crenshaw (15-5, 4-1) behind junior point guard Marcus Williams' game-high 37 points and 11 assists, was just too much for the Pathfinders. Darren Brown had 22 points and 16 rebounds and Mark Bradford added 19 for Fremont

Dorsey 77, Locke 54 --Junior point guard Eric Flournoy scored 19 points for host Dorsey (13-4, 5-0) while Gary Hamilton finished with 17 points.

Manual Arts 85, Jefferson 64 --Jonathan Heard scored 27 points and 15 rebounds for host Manual Arts (11-5, 1-4).


Eastern League

Bell 50, Huntington Park 42 --Bell (10-6, 5-0) was led by senior center Jerry Lopez who scored 12 points in the win over host Huntington Park (8-10, 2-3), which was led by Romel Espinoza's 14 points. Bell senior guard Mauricio Centeno also had 10 as the Eagles defeated the host Spartans.

Jordan 54, Garfield 53 --Acquell Smith had 16 points to lead visiting Jordan (11-7, 4-1).

South Gate 56, Roosevelt 51 --South Gate (6-14, 1-4) soph Lorenzo Mata finished with 18 points (8-8 shooting), 14 rebounds and six blocked shots in the win over Roosevelt on Wednesday.  Senior guard Edwin Castro made two free throws with six seconds left to help seal the win for the Rams over the the visiting Roughriders (2-3 league).


Magnet League

Elizabeth Street 68, Valley Alternative 64--Alonzo Martinez scored 22 points, Eric Gutierrez added 19 and Saul Ruiz finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds for visiting Elizabeth (3-5, 2-3). David Paul had 26 points and Andrew Davis scored 18 for Valley Alternative (1-6, 1-4).

Foshay 57, Downtown Business Magnet 52 --Kryston Tillett had 26 points to lead host Foshay (4-8, 3-2).

King-Drew 75, Middle College 61 --Jermaine Williams scored 20 points for King-Drew (10-8, 4-0).


Marine League

Carson 80, Banning 75 --Junior guard Samuel Hill scored 21 points for Carson (13-6, 4-1). Senior guard Joey Saavadra scored 44 points, including ten three-pointers, for Banning (11-5, 2-3), and  standout junior forward Ekene Ibekwe finished with 19 as the Colts held off the host Pilots.Hill scored 17 of his team-high 21 points and Ibekwe scored 15 of his 19 in the second half to offset Saavedra, who finished with 44 points and 10 3-pointers. Carson trailed 38-29 at halftime. Carson led by as many as 10 points in the second half before a comeback attempt by Banning. Mike Johnson scored 10 points for Carson. Kennis Porter scored 15 and Roderick Perry added seven for Banning.

Gardena 78, Washington 53 --Ramon Prescott scored 19 points for Gardena (9-7, 3-2), and 12 rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks as the Panthers won on the road. Issac Thurman posted 15 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks. Jeffrey Bryant finished with 14 points, four steals and four assists, and Donte Wilbourn added 11 points. Wayne Chamberlin led Washington with 24 points

Narbonne 79, San Pedro 66 --Sophomore guard Christian Smith scored 24 points and senior guard Beto Delgado added 23 points for Narbonne (13-6, 4-1). Ryan Johnson scored 23 points and pulled down 10 boards for San Pedro (6-12, 0-5).   Delgado added eight assists and six steals. Reggie Simms finished with 14 points and six rebounds, and Matt Terry chipped in with eight assists.  James Givan added 16 points and Brent Weber finished with 11 points for San Pedro.  The Pirates were playing with their full squad for the first time since Coach John Bobich suspended 11 players for four games due to a rules violation on a recent trip to Alaska.


Northern League

Franklin 58, Belmont 42 --Belmont (7-8, 4-1) was led by Billy Elliston with 20 but it wasn't enough as Jason Cook scored 20 points and Narcisco Diaz added 14 points for Franklin (12-7, 5-0).

Eagle Rock 65, Lincoln 45 --Kenneth Irby scored 17 points for Lincoln (0-9, 0-5).

Marshall 38, Wilson 30 --John Dayrit scored 12 points for Marshall (4-15, 2-3).


Sunset Six League

Grant 96, Canoga Park 49 --Grant (11-9, 3-2) was led by senior shooting guard Jeremy Scharf with 21 points. Junior point guard Gino Riney had 13 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists for his second triple-double of the season for Grant.  Coach Howard Levine told us after the game, "We're running a more structured offense now than we were a few weeks ago.  Some of our individual scoring may go down, but we're a better team if we keep within our concept.  Riney recorded his second triple-double of the season, finishing with 13 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in a 96-49 Sunset Six League boys' basketball victory over visiting Canoga Park on Wednesday.  Sharf's 7 three pointers helped contribute to a new single game school record for three-pointers, as the Lancers hit 16 yesterday.

North Hollywood 72, Verdugo Hills 49 --Josiah James scored 19 points for North Hollywood (12-8, 5-0). Danny Castro scored 21 points for host Verdugo Hills (4-15, 0-5).

Poly 87, Hollywood 47--Jose Zavala had 16 points for Poly (10-10, 3-2). Mike Zorkin had 12 points and seven rebounds for host Hollywood (7-12, 1-4).


Valley Mission League

Kennedy 69, Monroe 49 --Gervell Byrd scored 22 points and Markeith Wheeler added 19 points for Kennedy (10-10, 3-3)

Reseda 103, San Fernando 76 --Steve Lone had 25 points (seven three-pointers) and Sergei Lepashinski had 24 points for Reseda (11-4, 4-1). Jenkins had 33 points and Rodriguez had 24 points for San Fernando. Eric Johnson had 19 and Jorge Anaya also scored 13 for Reseda. .

Sylmar 91, Van Nuys 59 --Senior combo guard/forward Frank Robinson (6'-5" Sr. G/F) led Sylmar (13-5, 5-0) with 28 points and 15 rebounds.


West Valley League

Cleveland 70, Granada Hills 67 --Taku Uechi scored 32 points for Granada Hills (7-14, 1-4) and Allen McMillian led Cleveland (12-7, 5-0) with 17 points.

El Camino Real 67, Chatsworth 66 (OT) --Rai Colston (5'-7" So. G) made a free-throw as time expired to lead El Camino Real (9-10, 3-2). Teammate Matt Petros hit a three-pointer force overtime and Bruce Neale scored 20 points for Chatsworth (7-10, 2-3). ECR's Todd Wolfson (6'-8" Jr. F) scored 18 points.

Taft 61, Birmingham 48 -- The much anticipated reunion of former Taft point guard Mustafa Asghari, playing for Birmingham just one week after being removed from the Taft team turned out to be more hype than hoopla, as Taft (11-6, 3-2) won behind Nima Javaherian's 16 points and Steve Smith's 12 points. Loren Leath had 16 points to lead Birmingham (6-9, 2-3), and Asghari had 9 points in the loss, 17 fewer than his former average at Taft.  Ray Vaughn added 10 for the Toreodors, and Arman Shatrang added 12 for the Patriots. Asghari played forward rather than guard, and was having trouble with his shot playing a new position.


Western League

Fairfax 123, Venice 47 --Evan Burns and Jasha Blunt scored 20 points each for the Fairfax Lions (20-3, 6-1) and teammate Alex Bausley (6'-8" Jr. F) added 15 points.  Thomas Woods (a soph transfer from Ribet) added 14 points for Fairfax in the lopsided win over the Gondoliers.

University 68, Palisades 65 --Aaron Brown hit two free throws with four seconds to secure the win for host University (15-7, 3-4). Brown finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and shot 6-6 from the line. Ruben Boykin scored 26 points and eight rebounds for Uni.  Tim Jackson scored 22 points for Palisades (12-7, 3-4).

Westchester 107, Hamilton 56 -- With the game never in doubt, Arizona-signee Hassan Adams scored 24 points, 8 assists and five steals for Westchester (19-1, 7-0), while unsigned senior forward Keith Everage (6'-8" Sr. F) added 16 points and junior Trevor Ariza (6'-7" Jr. F) finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Westchester led 59-21 at the half. Valdez Wright had 27 points (according to the LA Times;  he had 30 according to the Daily Breeze) to lead host Hamilton (11-13, 3-4). Brandon Heath did not play. Westchester had 6 players in double figures, and in addition to Adams, Everage and Ariza, Georgetown-signee Brandon Bowman added 15 points and 10 rebounds, and Bobby Brown finished with 14 points.  Junior Scott Cutley also finished in double figures with 13 points.
