Boys' Republic 78, La Verne Lutheran 73 --John Flannagan scored a game-high 34 points and eight assists for Boys' Republic (10-4, 6-1) Jamal Magee added 20 points and nine rebounds for Boys' Republic. La Verne Lutheran was led by Larry Freeman's 25 points.

Sherman Indian 78, Noli Indian 33 --Sherman Indian (9-6, 5-2) picked up the win over Noli, which remains winless in league. Christian League

Loma Linda Academy 76, Woodcrest Christian 59 --Ryan Prior scored 25 points including three three-pointers lead host Loma Linda Academy (14-4, 6-2). Prior sparked an 8-0 run to end the first half as Loma Linda Academy pulled away with a Christian League victory, and he banked a three pointer then swished a second in under 30 seconds as Loma Linda jumped to an eight-point halftime lead. Woodcrest Christian cut the lead to three points several times but never got any closer. Cory Wells scored 22 for Woodcrest Christian (10-9, 5-3). Express League

Eastside Christian 76, Southlands Christian 48 --T.J. Fakehinde scored 26 points to lead Eastside Christian (5-12, 4-2) in the win over Southlands Christian (2-8, 0-5).

South Bay Lutheran 63, Liberty Christian 42 --Visiting South Bay Lutheran (8-2, 6-0) secured its hold on first place in the league race behind Qyntyn Webb's 13 points and six assists. Patrick Doney scored 28 points for Liberty Christian (4-15, 2-4).


Freedom League

Los Pinos 72, Masada 69 --Point guard Jun Azarin had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists as Lake Elsinore Los Pinos held off Gardena Masada in a Freedom League game. Masada rallied from a 15-point halftime deficit to tie the game at 69-69, but Randy Pushckor made three free throws in the final 30 seconds to lift Los Pinos (5-5, 2-3) over Masada.  Masada -- Daniels 3, Gaines 8, Walker 3, Thompson 22, Myrack 3, Williams 21, Brown 9.  Los Pinos (2-3, 5-5) -- M. Rio Contiguo 67, Zinsmeyer 58

Whitewater 77, Wilson Creek 36--Damien Poss scored 29 points (12 in the second quarter) and point guard Fisaha Gebremichael had a triple-double, scoring 16 points, grabbing 10 boards and dishing out 12 assists for Whitewater (16-0, 6-0) in the win over Wilson Creek.  The Saints led by five after the first quarter then outscored Wilson Creek 19-5 to take a 19-point halftime lead. Whitewater -- Gebremichael 16, Poss 29, Coleman 16, H. Adamsa 10, Taylor 2, Barton 2, Fitts 2. Wilson Creek -- Powell 14, Schoop 13, Robertson 8, Faile 1. Halftime score -- Whitewater 35-16. Heritage League

Faith Baptist 60, LA Lutheran 57-- Henry Chung hit four critical late free throws and shared the team scoring lead with 14 points Thursday night to help visiting Faith Baptist of Canoga Park retain a share of the Heritage League boys' basketball lead with a 60-57 win over L.A. Lutheran of Sylmar. Johnny Case added 14 points, Ramsey Zahr scored 12 and Areg Ohanian 11 as the Contenders (6-9, 5-1) stayed even with Grace Brethren of Simi Valley. Kevin Hirata scored 17 and Tony Park 16 for L.A. Lutheran.

Grace Brethren 65, First Lutheran 40 --Evan Marme led Grace Brethren (9-8, 5-1) with 18 points. First Lutheran is now 2-10, 0-4.


Ivy League

Arlington 56, Valley View 41--Despite junior forward Marcus Slaughter's 14 point, 12 rebound performance, Valley View (5-16, 0-6) remained winless in league, unable to defeat Riverside Arlington (3-3) Arlington -- Simone 5, Holguin 8, Acosta 0, Orduno 13, Garner 7, Arellano 1, Miller 2, Thomas 2, Lefotu 18. Valley View -- Nwigwe 4, Kalapaca 2, D. Williams 4, White 5, Slaughter 14, Ayson 2, Overton 4, Barrett 6. Halftime score -- Arlington 32-13. Three-point goals -- Orduno 4, Garner, White, Barrett. Canyon Springs 83, J.W. North 66--Freshman guard Andre McGee scored 23 points, had five steals and eight assists and Tron Smith added 24 points, nine rebounds and six steals to lead Canyon Springs (15-7, 5-1) over JW North (8-12, 2-4). Richard Cobbs did not play for Canyon Springs.  Ahead by six at the half, Moreno Valley Canyon Springs used a man-to-man pressure defense in the third quarter to outscore JW North 23-14.   Canyon Springs-- Smith 24, McGee 23, Arnwine 16, Gaines 2, Adams 4, Woods 9, James 5. Riverside Poly 51, Moreno Valley 40--Danny Renneisen scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter, including back-to-back threes that extended a four-point lead to 10 as Riverside Poly (19-4, 6-0) pulled away from Moreno Valley (12-11, 2-4). Cornerstone Christian Wildomar 53, Christian Center Academy 44--Senior forward Michael Valdez scored a team-high 19 points for the Warriors (0-8, 0-12) in a Metro League loss to the Eagles.

Desert Chapel 89, California Lutheran 31--Reed Ritchie finished with a game-high 34 points and 20 rebounds for Desert Chapel (11-3, 6-1) in the win over Cal Lutheran (3-13, 3-3). Chaminade 70, Alemany 64 --Marcus Everett scored 25 points, including three-pointers, and Adrian Aye-Darko added 18 points with four three-pointers for host Chaminade (16-5, 5-2). Alex Ingram scored 16 points for Alemany (2-5 in league). Notre Dame 58, St. Francis 48 --Danny Kalin had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Sean Djernes added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Notre Dame (7-14, 3-4). Notre Dame (59)--Syson 2, Sour 6, Vallesteros 2, Croal 5, Lepore 6, Flick 7, Welker 7, Sean Djernes 10 and 8 r4ebvounds, Danny Kalin 14, 10 rebounds. St. Francis (48) -- Reyes 4, Burton 7, Davies 8, Miller 19, Menzies 2, Orlandini 4, Satoris 5.  Notre Dame--21  18 10   12--59;  St. Francis 14  13  10  11--48. 


Moore League

Millikan 56, Long Beach Cabrillo 42--Junior guard Marcus Dove had 13 points and 6 assists to lead the Rams (13-7, 5-2) past the visiting Jaguars (2-5 league). Senior guard Melvyn Nicholson also scored 12 points and junior center Ryan Hynes had 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks for Millikan.

Lakewood 53, Compton 38--Senior guard Eugene Carey scored 12 points and senior forward John Wegner also had 11 points and 12 rebounds as the Lancers (17-2, 6-1) defeated the visiting Tarbabes (0-7 league).  Senior guard Terrell McLaurin also scored 10 points for Lakewood which held Compton scoreless in the first quarter.


Ocean League

Compton Centennial 89, Hawthorne 48--This is the game which was scheduled two weeks ago, which was canceled due to a fight in the stands which spilled onto the court following the frosh-soph game which preceded the scheduled varsity and jv contests.   We weren't there yesterday, but sophomore point guard Gabriel Pruitt (6'-2" So. G) hit six 3's and finished with a game-high 29 points (including 6 three pointers and six steals) as the Apaches (19-0, 8-0) defeated the host Hawthorne Cougars (4-14, 1-7). Senior guard Jonathan Smith also scored 16 points and senior forward Sterling Byrd had 15 points for Centennial.Freshman guard Mike Gordon finished with 6 points, starting in place of sophomore point guard Arron Afflalo, who missed the game with a thumb injury. Freshman Mike Shelton led Hawthorne with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mike Washington had 16 points and five rebounds and Vilamar Washington had 12 points and seven rebounds in the loss for Hawthorne.  Saul Lankster (who transferred from Dominguez to Centennial) added 12 for Compton Centennial.   Hawthorne committed 29 turnovers, 18 of them forced by Centennial.


Omega League

Ventura County Christian 45, Skyward 38 -- Ventura County Christian (45) -- Alvarez 11, Arthur 8, Carlson 2, Gonzalez 7, Hartnell 1, Hernandez 15, Misenhimer 1. Skyward (38) -- Newman 2, Perea 9, Bosworth 27.  Ventura Co. Christian 8 5 12 20--45 Skyward 6 16 7 9--38 3-Point goals -- Skyward 3 (Bosworth 3). Fouled out -- Perea (S), Yost (S), Lymon (S). Rebounds -- Ventura County Christian (Gonzalez 12, Hernandez 12). Team record -- Ventura County Christian 5-4, 5-1.


San Joaquin League

Fairmont Prep 59, Tarbut V'Torah 49 --Fairmont (15-1, 5-1) was led by William Washington's 25 points in the win over Tarbut V'Torah (12-6, 6-2), which was led by Steve Echabali with 14 points.  Evan Ezaki had eight assists for Fairmont.


Valley League

AGBU 52, Valley Torah 45 --AGBU Chris Vahan scored 20 points and had 14 rebounds, while Todd Harout added 12 points, 16 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.   Vartkes Isken had 12 and 8 assists. Yossi Goldman had 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals, and Jeff Rosenfeld added 11 rebounds for Valley Torah (10-6, 5-3).

Coutin 52, Summit View West 26 --Coutin (which claims to be 10-1 even though their scores are never reported anywhere)  won behind 16 points from Sammy Kaye and 14 from Kris Gutierrez.  Tico Espinoza added 12.


Victory League

Baptist Christian 83, Redlands Adventist 47 --Redlands Adventist (1-6 in league) -- Paschal 18, Chapman 8, Salgado 8, Macy 2, Harrison 2, Irwin 4, Jones 5. Baptist Christian (10-5, 6-0) -- Ochoa 15, Acton 20, Eaton 2, Beasley 15, Palmeri 2, Fedchuck 7, Van Dien 4, Lappinga 8, Berger 4, Flemming 6.  Halftime score -- Baptist Christian 39-25. Three-point goals -- Paschal, Fedchuck 2, Flemming. Total fouls -- Redlands Adventist 24, Baptist Christian 22. Fouled out -- Harrison, Irwin.


Westside League

Milken 64, West L.A. Baptist 55 --Milken pulled off the win over host W.LAB which the day before got the upset win over GH Hillcrest Christian.  Ari Friedland scored 14 points for visiting Milken (10-7, 6-1). Senior point guard Jon Milgrom had 13, Matt Gurvitz 8, Mintz 8, Michel 8, Esmalizadah 5, and Eliaser 8.  West LAB was led by Thomas Johnson with 24, and Jacob Hyde with 10.  Other scorers were Asai 5, Melancon 8, Mendes 6, and Thiele 2.  Milken--20  19  10  15--64;  WLAB 13   8  13  21--55.

CIF-Southern Section Non-League , Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002

Calvary Baptist 58, Saddleback Valley Christian 33--Roma Smith scored 17 points and grabbed 20 rebounds and Scott Smith added 16 points and 22 rebounds to lead Calvary Baptist. Joon Lee scored 10 points in the win for the Cougars.

Oaks Christian 61, Kilpatrick 58 (OT)--Oaks Christian (18-0) preserved it's perfect season with a win over Kilpatrick (14-3), currently ranked No. 4 in both the SCIBCA poll and the SoCalHoops Top 20 poll.  Michael Hornbuckle finished with a game high 23 points for Oaks Christian.  Kilpatrick (58) -- Smith 10, Williams 7, Ray 7, Eatman 20, Morris 9, Brown 5. Oaks Christian (61) -- Freeman 4, Avedessian 10, Denham 2, Cline 6, Hornbuckle 23, C. Adams 3, S. Adams 13. Palm Valley 52,  Calvary Chapel Redlands 39 --Sean Krubinski scored 16 points and grabbed 10 boards in the win over CC (2-16). Colin Kirkpatrik scored 11 points and finished with seven steals. San Gabriel Adventist 73, Midland Adventist (Kan.) 54 --San Gabriel Adventist (14-4) won its first round tournament game against Midland from Kansas behind Chris Ostos' game-high 31 points and Jason Killebrew's 13 points and 11 rebounds.  

LA City Section League  Games, Thursday Jan. 24, 2002

Magnet League

Bravo 74, Valley Alternative 54 --Visiting Bravo (8-11, 4-1) defeated Valley Alternative (1-4) behind Brandon Turner's game-high 21 points.

Foshay 58, Elizabeth Street 56 --Foshay (5-8, 4-2) was led by Brandon Moody who finished with 15 points and 22 rebounds.

King-Drew 78, SOCES 63--details not available.

LACES 84, Downtown Business Magnet 73--LACES (6-12, 5-0) remained in first place in Magnet League with the win over DTBM yesterday behind Aaron Burris' 23 points and 15 rebounds.  Kataro Niomiya added 20 points.  DTBM was led by Smith and Minis, with 23 and 21 points, respectively.


Western League

Los Angeles 61, Hamilton 58 --Los Angeles (11-8, 3-4) was led by Darnell Woods who scored 19 points (five three-pointers) in the win over visiting Hamilton (3-4).
