CIF HS Games: Results & Details From
Wednesday 1/30/02--(Jan. 31, 2002)

We are pulling into the home stretch, the next-to last week of regular season games before the playoffs begin.  Here's what we know about Wednesday's games gathered from reports sent to us from team representatives, coaches, players and parents, as well as what we've been able to gather from local newspapers and websites. If you know of a game that we missed, a score that is unreported, or some details that we're missing, send it in via e-mail.

CIF-Southern Section League Games, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002

Academy League

Brethren Christian 54, Oxford Academy 43 --Visiting Brethren Christian (13-9, 3-4) was led by Caley Strong with 12 points and Byron Jefferson with 11 points in the win over host Oxford (3-16, 1-6). Jake Fermenian had 24 points and 11 rebounds for Oxford.


Alpha League

Kilpatrick 94, Marshall 63 --Kilpatrick (16-4, 5-0) was led by Darrell Morris who scored 23 points in the win against Marshall Fundamental from Pasadena. (1-19, 1-5).


Baseline League

Claremont 72, Chino 46--Shaddean Aaron had 22 points and 12 rebounds and Cameron Munoz added 15 as the Wolfpack (17-6, 6-2) defeated the Cowboys (3-5 in league). Aaron Marcy was Chino's top scorer with 20 points.

Glendora 62, Upland 49--Glendora (20-2, 6-1) took control of the Baseline league race behind Larry Monroe's 29 points, outscoring Upland 17-4 in the third quarter, and the Highlanders (15-7, 5-2) never recovered. Michael Mehanna added 16 points for the Tartans.  Upland
shot 2-for-14 from the field in the third quarter as Glendora came from being down 32-30 at the half, going ahead by 14 by the end of the quarter. Monroe had 16 of his 29 in the second half.  Eric Holland led Upland with 13 points.

Walnut 64, Don Lugo 47 --Ricky Fischer scored 21 points for Walnut (10-10, 2-5) in the win over Don Lugo (0-7). Darnell Gilbert scored 11 and Vivek Vinjamur had 10 for Walnut. Richard Snyder scored 24 for visiting Don Lugo. Walnut junior Dreshawn Vance finished with eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots, and the Mustangs held the Conquistadores to only 11 first-half points.


Bay League

Inglewood 101, Morningside 54 --Inglewood (16-5, 9-3) was led by junior guard Ray Reed who scored 26 points and senior point guard  Jason McKinney who scored 20.  Teammate Chris Holloway scored 19 in the win over Morningside (3-21, 0-10), which got 21 points from Khalid Jones and 14 from Alan Goodwin.

Mira Costa 53, North Torrance 51--Host Mira Costa (12-11, 6-5) was led by  Greg Geier with 13, and Rocky Ciasulli with 11, who tied the game with a 15-footer, and then hit a basket with just 15 seconds for the eventual margin of victory.  North Torrance (4-7 in league) got the last possession and had a chance to win the game, but missed a shot at the buzzer.  Aaron Harris added 10 points for Mira Costa while Jason Davis added 16 points to lead North Torrance.

Santa Monica 58, Peninsula 49 --The visiting Vikings (12-11, 6-5) defeated host Peninsula (15-9, 6-5), the latter being led by Kevin Gardner's 19 points.  Zach Freeman added 13 and Shawn Weinstein had nine for the Panthers. Brett DeAngelis scored 21 for Santa Monica  which opened up a 19-8 first-quarter lead.

Redondo 77, Leuzinger 48-- Senior point guard Keith Ellison led visiting Redondo (17-5, 11-0), scoring 20 points and dishing out 7 assists and five steals, while junior combo foward/guard Wendell White finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds.  Senior Adam Zahn had 12 points and 12 rebounds.  Leuzinger (7-16, 2-8) was led by Dorell Wright with 24 points.


Camino Real League

St. Monica 76, Cantwell-Sacred Heart 47 --Brandon Cruz scored 22 points to lead St. Monica (11-11, 6-1) over visiting Sacred Heart.   Hampton Nunley added 17 points.

Verbum Dei 60, St. Anthony 35 --St. Anthony's woes continued as Verbum Dei's (20-3, 5-0) Richard Chaney, a Utah-signee, scored 20 points in the win

Don Bosco 43, Mary Star 42 --Visiting Don Bosco defeated Mary Star, probably knocking the Stars out of the playoffs with the loss.   Jeff Fiamengo scored 15 points and had 8 assists.  Mary Star fell to 8-14, 3-4.


Channel League

Santa Barbara 60, San Marcos 53-- Santa Barbara (14-9, 5-1) moved into sole possession of first in the Channel League race with two games to play. San Marcos (14-8, 4-2) drops a game behind the Dons. The Royals led 14-12 after the first quarter and 23-22 at halftime.  Dante DeRose, Preston Maloney and Taylor Rochestie each finished with 10 points while Santiago Aguirre had nine and Dante Bogan eight. Aaron Mercer finished with 14 points and eight rebounds for San Marcos while Seamus McKiernan had nine points and eight rebounds.  Asher Kupperman finished with 14 points and five assists for the Royals.  San Marcos-- Fortune 6, Kupperman 14, McKiernan 9, Spaventa 8, Hill 2, Mercer 14. Totals 18 13-23 53. Santa Barbara -- Bogan 8, Rochestie 10, Maloney 10, Russel 2, DeRose 10, Aguirre 9, Heckman 5. Totals 20 18-22 60. Villanova Prep 70, Thacher 60 --Villanova Prep (12-7, 5-0) got 26 points from Djadji Daffe.

Cornerstone Christian 26, Oak Grove 23 --details not available.


De Anza League

Twentynine Palms 84, Aquinas 63 -- Host Twentynine Palms (15-6, 9-2) was led by junior forward Dynamite Mathews with 30 points and 17 rebounds.  Jermaine Harris had 29 points for Aquinas (7-4 in league) Aquinas -- Ohaeri 16, Alonzo 3, Harris 29, Noble 2, Emmembly 8, Sepuya 5. Twentynine Palms  -- Randall 8, Cummings 1, Baraza 3, Hester 10, O'Gilvie 6, Cooley 7, Mathews 30, Prichard 3, Cromwell 16. Halftime score -- Twentynine Palms 38-27. Three-point goals -- Ohaeri 2, Alonzo, Harris 4, Sepuya, Hester, Cromwell, Cooley. Total fouls -- Aquinas 23, Twentynine Palms 21. Fouled out -- Noble. Riverside Notre Dame 54, San Jacinto 50   --Riverside Notre Dame's Sean Conley had eight points and 11 rebounds in a De Anza League victory. Notre Dame (8-3, 12-9) -- Conley 8, Arabi 11, Lyons 7, Richards 5, Durough 3, Calhoun 16, McSherry 4. San Jacinto -- Duguio 12, Wood 11, Medina 15, Sullivan 7, Davis 3, Mitchell 2.  Halftime score -- Notre Dame 36-26. Three-point goals -- Arabi, Richards, Durough, Calhoun 2, Duguio 4, Wood 3, Davis. Total fouls -- Notre Dame 14, San Jacinto 16. Fouled out -- none.


Del Rey League

Bishop Amat 80, St. Bernard 57 --John Haywood had 25 points and seven rebounds, Wesley Walker scored 14 points and 8 rebounds and Paul Porter had 12 points and 7 assists for Bishop Amat (18-8, 3-3), in the win over St. Bernard (7-17, 0-6) which was led by Bruce Bevans with 12 points.

Serra 65, St. Paul 53 --Senior point guard Eugene Jeter scored 24 points for Serra (22-2, 6-0) in the win over St. Paul (12-12, 1-4) which got 21 points and 14 rebounds from Kevin Dyer. Samir Hernandez finished with 16 points.  St. Paul stayed close for a quarter, then fell behind by 11 in the second quarter as Serra used a 14-0 run behind 10 points from Jeter, eventually pulling to 35-25 at the half. Serra finished with 23 turnovers to St. Paul's 22 but the Cavaliers outrebounded the Swordsmen, 30-19. Rudy Serna finished with 16 points, including four 3-point baskets.


Empire League

Cypress 61, Katella 58 :--Dominique Ricks scored 19 points and Matt Reid added 18 for the host Centurions (16-7, 4-3).

El Dorado 55, Loara 53 --Senior forward David Patten scored 24 points and 11 rebounds led host El Dorado (19-4, 5-2) over Loara (17-6, 4-3) which got 19 points from Bryce Sheldon. Kevin Cook added 11 points and 12 rebounds for the El Dorado Golden Hawks.


Freeway League

La Habra 77, Troy 57 --Josh (in the Times, Jeff in the Register) Salo made six of eight three-pointers and had 20 points and Marcellus Robertson had 14 points for host La Habra (15-7, 5-2) in the win over visiting Troy (10-13, 1-6).

Sonora 42, Buena Park 37--Travis Rogers scored 15 points for the visiting Raiders (14-8, 6-1).

Sunny Hills 64, Fullerton 46 --Senior Clay Carmody scored 23 points and teammate Tony Gonzalez finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds as Sunny Hills (19-5, 6-1) defeated Fullerton (13-11, 1-6) which got 11 points from Brian Garcia.


Golden West League

Santa Ana 50, Tustin 49--Pedro Flores' late fourth-quarter three-pointer lifted the host Saints (8-14, 3-3).


Liberty League

Buckley 68, Oakwood 59 --Senior point guard David Gale had 18 points, 10 assists and 8 steals while teammate Baron Abdul-Mansour finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds for the host Griffins (15-5, 9-2) in the win over the Oakwood Gorillas (2-15, 1-10).  Seniors Julian Mintz and Stan Musgrave both scored 16 points each, in a game which had Buckley leading 22-4 at the end of the first quarter, a lead that the Griffins increased to 36-6 midway through the second period. Providence 61, Viewpoint 40 --Providence (9-7, 5-3) was led by Tommy Boucher with 19 points, playing in just his second varsity game of the season. Boucher was moved up from the jv's due to injuries sustained by other Providence varsity guards.

Yeshiva 56, Windward 41 --Yeshiva (14-4, 11-0) maintained its grip on first place in the league behind Mike Pollack's 17 points and 14 rebounds, as well as his game high seven steals.


Los Padres League

Paso Robles 69, Atascadero 52 --Paso Robles (15-5, 6-1) was led by Jermain Williams with 21 points, including six three-pointers, over visiting Atascadero, which was led by J.D. Berwick with 17 points.

St. Joseph 65, Santa Ynez 53 --Matt Depriest had 13 points for visiting St. Joseph (11-10, 5-2) and Joe Tilley had 12. Aaron Richman scored 23 for the Pirates (4-3, 9-12) and Dan Lindberg addded 15. Santa Ynez was playing without 6-8 center Matt McKinney, who may miss the rest of the season with torn ligaments in his ankle.


Marmonte League

Moorpark 64, Agoura 60 --Keith Lawrence had 18 points for Moorpark and Steve Keglevic finished with 17 points.

Newbury Park 70, Westlake 67 --Chris Randall had 29 points for Newbury Park.

Thousand Oaks 65, Royal 50--


Metro League

Lake Arrowhead Christian 57, Redlands Calvary Chapel 47 --Lake Arrowhead Christian -- Moody 9, Conedy 17, Risden 6, Tinsley 3, McCollister 20, Simms 2. Redlands Calvary Chapel (1-9, 2-17) -- Rosebeary 9, Lee 13, McGee 14, Paugh 11, Cloud 0.  Halftime score -- Lake Arrowhead Christian 36-26. Three-point goals -- Moody, Conedy. Total fouls -- Lake Arrowhead Christian 17, Redlands Calvary Chapel 19. Fouled out -- Rosebeary, Cloud, Moody.


Miramonte League

Charter Oak 58, Diamond Ranch 53 --Charter Oak (14-9, 3-4) was led by Josh Bayer who scored 16 points and Sharif Elkhaldy who added 13 points. in the win over Diamond Ranch  (12-9, 3-4) which got 15 points from Richard Coombs.Charter Oak held a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter but watched as Diamond Ranch (12-9, 3-4) cut the lead to three due to a change in defense. Sharif Elkhaldy scored five points in the fourth quarter for the Chargers, who received a 3-pointer from Bayer and hit free throws the rest of the way to seal the game.

Los Altos 82, Garey 55 --Anthony Garcia made four three-point baskets and scored 28 points for Los Altos (12-12, 4-3). Dylan Rogers had five three-pointers, all in the first half, and finished with 20 points. Jevon Davis scored 29 for Garey (4-19, 0-7).

Pomona 71, Hacienda Heights Wilson  60--Odell Howard's 23 points and 14 rebounds led the Red Devils (18-5, 7-0) to the win over the Wildcats. Teammate Alvaro Nunez added 17 points and James Milbourne contributed 13.


Mission Valley League

Gabrielino 60, South El Monte 53-- Gabrielino (14-9, 6-1) secured the league lead and now controls its own destiny with three games to play, as Danny Carrasco's 3-pointer midway through the quarter capped a 7-0 run and gave Gabrielino a 35-25 lead, behind Gabrielino's Omar Garcia who had six points. Despite Gabrielino missing six consecutive free throws in the final 20 seconds, South El Monte (8-13, 5-2) would get no closer than six points. Sean Carey led Gabrielino with 16 points and Carrasco added 15.

Mountain View 41, El Monte 34 --Victor Romero had 17 points to lead visiting Mountain View (8-12, 3-4).

Rosemead 42, Arroyo 34 --Mario Cobian scored 14 points for Rosemead (10-13, 2-5). Kevin Zhang had 12 points for Arroyo.


Montview League

Gladstone 54, Azusa 43 --Brandon Winfield and Paul Torres each had 13 points to lead host Gladstone (4-15, 1-6).

Workman 58, Duarte 51 --Workman (13-7, 7-0) was led by Myron Butler who scored 18 points.


Moore League

Long Beach Poly 71, Lakewood 45 --Bobby Jones scored 26 points and had 12 rebounds for Poly (20-2, 9-0), while senior point guard Carlos Rivers added 12 points and UCLA football-commit Mercedes Lewis had 11. Lakewood (17-4, 6-3) was led by John Wagner with 14 points and Tyrell McLayron with 10 points.


Mountain View League

Centennial 60, La Sierra 37 --Senior forward Lance Soderberg scored 22 points, J.R. Reese scored 11 and had 12 assists for Centennial (19-2, 7-0) in the lopsided win over La Sierra (8-9, 2-5).  Centennial -- L.Soderberg 22, Alexander 10, Rogers 0, Reese 11, Peppers 2, B.Soderberg 4, Brisman 4, Richardson 2, Woodard 3, Pomeroy 2.  La Sierra -- Jenkins 2, Torres 3, Andres 13, Maxim 10, Vasquez 9.  Halftime score -- Centennial 25-15. Three-point goals -- Reese 2, Torres. Total fouls -- Centennial 14, La Sierra 18. Fouled out -- Vasquez, Maxim.

La Puente 67, Basset 42 --Tony Avila scored a game-high 17 points for La Puente (10-11, 3-4). Ivan Velasco had 12 points for host Bassett (2-5 in league).  The Warriors led 45-16 at halftime and coasted to victory.

Norco 66, Corona Santiago 59--Down 41-38 to end the third quarter, Norco (14-9, 5-2) outscored Corona Santiago (16-6, 5-2) 28-18 in the fourth, with junior guard Robert Contreras scoring 11, for a Mountain View League victory. Santiago  -- Simpson 17, Colman 5, LeDuc 14, Cliett 4, Jo.Black 6, Denson 9, Johnson 4. Norco  -- Je.Black 11, Cuadra 8, Knight 15, Moore 3, Contreras 11, Waterbury 3, Ogunyoku 6, McDowell 9. Jurupa Valley 60, Corona 58--Corona's Shawn Smith missed a three-pointer with one second to play as Jurupa Valley (9-12,  2-5) held on for a Mountain View League victory over Corona (6-16, 0-7). Damian Frias had a team-high 21 points for Jurupa Valley but missed two free throws in the final 10 seconds. Corona -- Almasy 6, Morrow 21, S.Smith 7, Garcia 5, Jasso 5, Hyun 10, Brown 4. Mt. Baldy League

Etiwanda 75, Alta Loma 53 --Jacob Johnson had 25 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocked shots and four steals for host Etiwanda (16-6, 6-1), which moved into a first place tie with Alta Loma (16-6, 6-1).

Ontario 61, Montclair 36 --Host Ontario (13-8, 3-4) was led by Jerrell Smith with 10 points and 11 rebounds.Quincy Fields of Montclair finished with a game-high 11 points.

Rancho Cucamonga 50, Chaffey 40--Justin Hamilton of Rancho Cucamonga (8-15, 3-4) finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Chaffey's Rashad Fox was the game's top scorer with 19.


Northern League

Arroyo Grande 64, San Luis Obispo 54 --Five players scored in double figures for Arroyo Grande (9-12, 4-3),  led by Scott Hogoboom's 14 and Scott Buhl's 13.


Ocean League

Compton Centennial 68, West Torrance 61--West Torrance (11-12, 7-4) led by one-point entering the fourth quarter, but could not hold off Centennial (22-0, 11-0). Dewayne Hollyfield had 18 points and Chris Brown added 15 points and 9 rebounds while Brad Dolick chipped in with 10 points.

Culver City 64, Hawthorne 59 (OT --Visiting Culver City (6-13, 3-7) was led by Desmond Ricks and Michael Bumpus who each had 13 points. Michael Washington had 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists as host Hawthorne (4-16, 1-10) fell in overtime. Vilamar Washington added 14 points and three steals.

El Segundo 62, South Torrance 49 --Dashawn Strong had 24 points and 16 rebounds, and Jeramie Hopson had 18 points and seven rebounds for El Segundo (21-3, 10-1). Kevin Ritchie scored 17 points for South Torrance (9-12, 4-6). Tino Gomez had 10 points for El Segundo while Kevin Ritchie led South Torrance (9-12, 4-6) with 17 points.

Torrance 71, Beverly Hills 50 --Lance Keys scored 12 points and 12 rebounds for host Torrance, while teammate Dustin May led the Tartars (10-13, 5-6) with 19 points. Scott Atkins  added 10 points for Torrance in the win over Beverly Hills (8-15, 2-9).  Isaac Aftalion led Beverly Hills with 13 points.


Orange League

Brea Olinda 103, Magnolia 48--Eric Giesler's 22 points led the visiting Wildcats (17-7, 6-1).

Savanna 63, Anaheim 55--Turnel Woods scored 24 points for the visiting Rebels (11-12, 6-1).

Western 46, Valencia 39 --Wilmer Fiapai scored 12 points and Ramsey Fiapai added 10 points for host Western (11-10, 3-4) in the win over Valencia (1-6 in league).


Pacific Coast League

Estancia 55, Corona del Mar 46 --Joey Lindquist had 20 points and 10 rebounds for visiting Estancia (12-11, 3-4) in the win over Corona del Mar (5-19, 1-6). Senior guard Fernando Maldonado finished with 13 points for Estancia, and he hit three three-pointers in the game, and had 8 assists and four rebounds to go along with three steals for Mitch Valdes. Pinto finished with nine points, including a pair of three-pointers, and 11 rebounds, while Bradshaw, making just his second start since a six-game absence from the starting lineup got nine points and 13 rebounds.  Kevin Mancillas finished with 19 points, while junior Brett Matsen finished with 8 points and four rebounds. Northwood 66, Costa Mesa 56--Host Northwood (19-3, 7-0) was led by Rob Selway who scored 18 points, Shaun Bailey with 16 and Drew Terry who finished with 13.   Senior point guard David Conte, who has signed with Cal-State Los Angeles, a D-II school, scored 22 points for Costa Mesa (3-4 in league).

University 81, Laguna Beach 62 --visiting University (15-8, 5-2) was led by David Seistel who scored 23 points and AJ Moskus who added 21 in the win over the Artists of Laguna Beach (6-14, 2-5).  Trevor Lyle scored 25 points for Laguna Beach.


Pacific View League

Oxnard 61, Hueneme 53 --Oxnard (19-4, 6-0) remained way out in front of everyone else in league with the win, led by Lee Abair's 18 points and Jonathan Davis, who had 12 and nine assists for.  Oxnard won it's 30th straight game in league competition.   The Pacific View League was formed two seasons ago.


Rio Hondo League

La Canada 67, San Marino 36 --Host La Canada (19-4, 7-0) maintained its firm grip on first place in league behind Greg Gaudino's 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Mark Moore added 14 points and 16 rebounds. Chris Hazell had 15 points for San Marino, which is in last place in league.

Temple City 69, Monrovia 68 (OT) --Temple City (13-8, 4-3) was led by junior guard Kevin Sweeney with a game-high 38 points, including two key baskets in overtime, and he shot 17-of-22 from the foul line, while Desmond Reed (5'-9" Jr. G) finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and five steals, in the win over Monrovia (12-11, 4-3) which has struggled since Bryant Markson went down a few weeks ago after reinjuring his ACL.   Steffon Barron had 33 points for Monrovia. After trailing by as many as 12 points in the second half, Sweeney tied the score at 58 with 2:25 remaining on a three-point play. The teams exchanged free throws in overtime, but with under minute, Monrovia's Richard Bourne hit a jumper to give his team a 68-67 lead. . Sweeny was fouled, went to the line and hit both for the final margin of victory.


San Gabriel Valley League

Downey 53, Lynwood 51 --Downey (15-8, 6-1), led by Larry Cunningham's 25 points,   got the win behind Jamie Johnson's layup with 25 seconds in the game; Lynwood (6-13, 2-5), led by James Reynolds' 15 points,  had a chance to tie it or win, but Daniel McCall's three-point attempt missed.

Paramount 60, Gahr 53 --Host Paramount (13-11, 1-6) hung on for the win behind Chris Campbell's 23 points.  Paramount led 35-26 at the half


Santa Fe League

La Salle 45, Bell Jeff 43 --La Salle (18-5, 7-0) maintained its undefeated league season and first place in league behind Andrew Mahlmann's offensive rebound and tip-in off a missed Anthony Napolitano three-point attempt at the buzzer in a close game over Bell Jeff (12-10, 4-3).  Anthony Napolitano led La Salle with 12 points, while Bell-Jeff's senior point Tyler Kealey led with 19 points and 8 assists.  The Lancers had a 43-40 lead in the final minute, but Bell Jeff's Tony Essa hit a 3-pointer with 28 seconds remaining to tie the score.


Sea View League

Newport Harbor 52, Irvine 39-- Sailors senior Tony Melum led Newport Harbor (18-5, 6-0) with 16 points, but left the game early in the third quarter after colliding with point guard Greg Perrine and sustaining a bruised knee.  Perrine, who has recovered from his own leg injury, scored 13 points, including three three pointers.    Erik Peterson added 11 points for Newport Harbor. Irvine fell to 0-6 in league. Woodbridge 61, Laguna Hills 46 --Visiting Woodbridge (16-8, 5-1), still playing without injured point guard Patrick Haddan, managed to pull off the win against host Laguna Hills behind David Burgess' 21 point and 11 rebound performance.


Serra League

Mater Dei 84, Servite 46 --As a tune-up to their much anticipated game agaisnt No. 1 Oak Hill this Saturday, Servite didn't provide much of a challenge to the Monarchs, as Mike Strawberry and Trevante Nelson combined for 28 points (14 each) and freshman point guard Mike Gerrity added seven assists for Mater Dei (20-4, 5-0).  It was the 13th consecutive win for the Monarchs since their disastarous showing at the Schwab tournament in Oregon, where they lost three games, and watched as Oak Hill defeated everyone to take the tournament championship.  Lionel Killens scored eight points for Servite (7-12, 0-5).

Santa Margarita 83, St. John Bosco 59 --Santa Margarita (19-3, 3-2) was led by Santa Clara University-signee Brandon Rohe with 22 points and 10 rebounds, and Travis Toch who finished with 14 points and 14 rebounds in the win over St. John Bosco (19-5, 2-3).


Sierra League

Ayala 55, West Covina 43 --Dan Larson scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds while Justin Davenport finished with 14 points and 13 boards for  host Ayala (15-8, 6-1), which outscored West Covina (14-9, 3-4) 22-13, in the second half.  Kyle   Gregory dished out seven assists along with his eight points for the Bulldogs.

Nogales 60, Damien 54 --Host Nogales (7-15, 1-6) was led by Jose Diaz who scored 14 points, while Jeremy Mack added 12 points. Chaz Turner scored 11 for Damien.

Rowland 58, Diamond Bar 46 --Larry Tieu scored 22 points and VaShon Pruitt added 15 points and 13 rebounds for host Rowland (16-7, 5-2) in the win over Diamond Bar (12-11, 5-2) which was led by Terry Simms with 11 points. The Raiders used a big fourth quarter scoring run in which they went 8-of-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter


South Coast League

Trabuco Hills 84, El Toro 74--Aaron Tudor's career-high 37 points sparked the host Mustangs (13-10, 3-4) over El Toro (16-7, 4-3).   Halftime: Trabuco Hills 41 El Toro 19 Final Score: Trabuco Hills 84 El Toro 74 Trabuco Hills: Aaron Tudor 37, John Kupper 23 El Toro: Patrick Carney 21, Darryl Best, 20.

Elsinore 74, Murrieta Valley 38 --Mack Green had 16 points to lead host Elsinore (18-4, 5-1) who held the Nighthawks (11-12, 2-4) to 12 first-half points, while scoring 30. Travon Keahey scored 14 and Ryan Cirilo added 11 for Elsinore.  Aaron Howley and A.J. McGregor led Murrieta with 7 points each. Temecula Valley 80, Chaparral 68--Sophomore Stuart Shepherd paced the Temecula Valley with eight 3-pointers en route to a game-high 27 points in the win for the Golden Bears (18-7, 4-2 league), over Chaparral.  Temecula led Chaparral 34-23 at the half and was never seriously threatened in the second half. The Golden Bears led by as many as 19 in the third quarter after a Shepherd 3-pointer. Temecula's Ross Green finished with 24 points and Josh Bomar had 14.  Will Campbell led the Chaparral Pumas (14-11, 1-4) with 26 points, 16 in the fourth quarter. Chaparral has now lost 4 straight games in league, and also got 19 points from senior Allen Craig, who connected on four 3-pointers.  Temecula Valley-- Segismar 6, Hodge 3, Green 24, Shepherd 27, Bomar 14, Combs 2, Hassen 4.  Chaparral-- Zeeb 0, Craig 19, Campbell 26, Chodola 10, Montano 7, Moore 3, Van Der Wouden 3. Artesia 81, La Mirada 46 --Artesia (15-6, 8-1), currently ranked No. 1 in the Division II-A CIF poll and No. 5 by SoCalHoops in the Top 20, was led by Ronald Allen and Kejuan Johnson who each scored 16 points.

Bellflower 81, Cerritos 51 --Visiting Bellflower (12-12, 5-4) was led by Michael Hubbard who had 30 points for the Buccanneers in the win over Cerritos, which was led by Dawin Whiten with 12 points in the loss.


Sunbelt League

Perris 75, Paloma Valley 53 --Perris (8-12, 4-2) jumped out to a 24-10 lead and went on to a Sunbelt League victory. Perris' Andrew Green (13 points and 14 rebounds) and Brian Hunter (18 points and 12 rebounds) had double-doubles. Paloma Valley's (2-19, 0-6) Cory Gridwell had six assists. Davis also contributed 18 rebounds, and Diesel Nevarez had 14 assists. Bloomington 64, Rubidoux 56 --Bloomington (8-16, 3-4) outscored Rubidoux (10-14, 4-3) by a margin of 20-15 in the fourth quarter, led by guard Durrell Thomas' 10 points, to win a Sunkist League match-up. Edison 60, Huntington Beach 44 --The host Edison Chargers (13-9, 3-4) were led by David Huff who scored 18 points and Tommy Grady who added 12 in the win over Huntington Beach (2-5 in league).

Esperanza 50, Fountain Valley 36 --Esperanza (14-9, 5-2) got a game-high 26 points (in the Times it was 26, but it was 24 if you read the Register) from Mark Lovein, who also had 10 rebounds in the win over Fountain Valley (13-10, 5-2).  The two teams are tied for first place in league.   Burke Spencer added 18 points, 11 in the fourth quarter, including three three-pointer. Esperanza was led by  Kevin Edmunds who scored 16 for Fountain Valley in the loss.

Los Alamitos 56, Marina 55 --Host Los Alamitos (14-9, 5-2) was led by Kyle Brucculeri with 13 pooints and David Whalley's 12 in the win over Marina (2-5 in league). Mark Lotman grabbed a rebound off a missed free throw, passed it to Whalley at midcourt who took it all the way for a layup at the buzzer for the win. Lotman had 10 points for Los Al, while James Lambert scored 23 points for Marina.


Tri-Valley League

Fillmore 51, Bishop Diego 46--Bishop Deigo (9-14) only managed 2 points in the first quarter, while Fillmore (11-9, 2-4) scored 13, and despite A. J. Cavaletto scoring 26 points, including 24 in the second half, Bishop Diego was not able to come from behind. Covina 59, Bonita 40--Covina (18-4, 7-3) was led by Jino La Bomme with 22 points and six assists over Bonita (14-9, 6-4).  Covina also got 10 rebounds and 10 assists from Emmanuel Olayinka, while Vernon Covington had 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked eight shots.  Bonita was led by Korey Johnson and Justin Miller with 10 points each. 

Ganesha 62, San Dimas 58 --The Ganesha Giants (19-4, 9-1) were led by Chris Reaves and Michael Efevberha who scored 20 each Curtis Small scored 28 points for San Dimas (17-5, 9-1), which trailed by nine points entering the fourth quarter.  San Dimas had a shot to tie the game with less than a minute to play but missed a 3-point attempt. Antouan Mesropian added 12 points and led the Saints in rebounding with 10.   Joe Bonner of Ganesha scored 11, including the last four points of the game.

Northview 62, Sierra Vista 39 --Host Northview (8-14, 3-7) was led by James Gavin with 24 points.  Gavin hit 10-of-11 from the field.


Westside League

Hillcrest Christian Granada Hills 85, West L.A. Baptist 79 --Freshman guard Johnny Oronoz had 39 points to lead host Hillcrest Christian GH (13-6, 8-2).  West LA Baptist (7-5, 5-3) was led by a game-high 46 points from Tomas Johnson.

Camarillo 60, Dos Pueblos 52 --David Reichel had 12 points and eight rebounds for Camarillo (18-5).  Brad Scyphers hit a 3-pointer in the final minute to break open a two-point game, as Dos Pueblos (12-9) trailed 52-50 with under a minute to play, but forced a bad shot, giving Scyphers the opportunity to score the go-ahead basket. Dos Pueblos was led by Jonathan Pickert with 16 points and Ryan Glick added 13 for Dos Pueblos, while teammate John Ramsdell added 8 points and 7 rebounds.  Dos Pueblos -- Friesen 9, Diffenderfer 1, Pickert 16, Delacerda 2, Ramsdell 8, Cotter 4, Glick 13. Flintridge Prep 45, Village Christian 34 --Flintridge Prep led only, 12-10, at halftime, but sophomore Tim Mercer scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half. Mercer also had 10 rebounds and five blocks for Flintridge Prep (8-11) in the win over Village Christian (8-12).   Village Christian held a 6-5 lead after the first quarter, which saw each team miss 12 consecutive shots. Temescal Canyon 72, Rancho Verde 63 --Temescal Canyon (13-10) was led by Josh Garrett who had 19 points and five assists, Matt Twamley' s15 points and five assists, and Mike Peterson who had 13 points and five assists, while Anthony Winston finished with 16 points for Rancho Verde. Coliseum League

Fremont 76, Dorsey 67 -- Fremont (18-4, 5-2) was led by Mark Bradford with 17 points and Darron Brown with 14 and 12 boards, as the Pathfinders beat Dorsey, giving the Dons (14-5, 6-1) their first league loss.  Dorsey was led by junior point guard Drew Gibson with 19 points. Senior  Donald Wilson had 14 points and Gary Hamilton added 12.  Eric Flournoy only scored two.  Terrell Powell and Josh Arnold each had 12 points for Fremont.

Locke 101, Jefferson 79 --Locke (3-4 in league) was led by Kevin Lewis who scored 34 points and Curtis Isom with 27.


Eastern League

Garfield 71, Huntington Park 63 --Garfield (7-7, 2-4) was led by Emanuel Gutierrez with 22 points.

Roosevelt 55, Bell 46 --Marlon Parrales and Chris Granillo scored 11 points apiece for Roosevelt, while Jerry Lopez led Bell (11-7, 6-1) with 27.

South Gate 64, L.A. Jordan 60 --South Gate (2-5 league) was led by Frank Ramirez with 20 points.  Ramirez shot 7-8 from the line in the fourth quarter.


Marine League

Banning 81, San Pedro 67 --Banning (11-6, 3-4) got 22 points and 13 rebounds from.Roderick Perry, and 18 points from Joey Saavedra in the win over host San Pedro (6-14, 0-7). KennisPorter scored 16 points, and Hytham Abed added 10 points and 20 rebounds, while Roko Grbic had 18 points, including five three-pointers for San Pedro.

Carson 63, Washington 53 --Junior Ekene Ibekwe finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead host Carson (15-6, 6-1). Michael Johnson added 11 points for Carson

Narbonne 91, Gardena 83 (OT) --Beto Delgardo scored a team-high 25 points, dished out 10 assists and had 10 steals to finish with a triple-double as Narbonne (14-6, 6-1) pulled out the overtime win over  Gardena (10-8, 4-3) which was led by Issac Thurman, who scored 25 points.  Reggie Simms added 24 points for Narbonne, and Gardena's Ramon Prescott scored 21.  Prescott also hit a jumper with 12 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.


Northern League

Belmont 57, Marshall 53 -- Belmont (9-8, 6-1) was led Billy Elliston's 15 points.  Belmont also got 14 points from Leo Castaneda, and 13 and eight rebounds from Phillip Sanchez. Marshall (13-8, 6-2) was led by John Dayrit scored 16. Belmont opened a 14-point lead by halftime, 36-22, and Marshall never got closer than four points.

Franklin 85, Lincoln 50 --Alfred Martin had 14 points to lead visting Franklin (15-7, 7-0).

Sunset Six League

Grant 79, Poly 72 --Grant (13-9, 5-2) was led by Gino Riney who scored 32 points in the win over Poly (10-12, 3-4), as the Parrots were led by  Jose Zavala's 23 points.  Riney also had nine assists, eight rebounds and five steals, while Steve Kaufman finished with 15 points (5 three-pointers)  Adam Townsend had 22 points and 17 rebounds for Poly which trailed by 13 in the first quarter.

Hollywood 63, Verdugo Hills 60 --The Hollywood Shieks (8-13, 2-5) were led by Dominique Willis with 17 points and eight assists in the win over Verdugo Hills.

North Hollywood 63, Canoga Park 35--Carter Pender had 22 points and eight rebounds for the first-place Huskies (14-8, 7-0) in a win over the visiting Hunters (7-15, 4-3), who got 21 points from Maurice Neal.


Valley Mission League

Reseda 81, Kennedy 60 --Senior shooting guard Sergei Lepashinski finished with 33 points for Reseda (13-4, 6-1) in the win over visiting Granada Hills (2-5) who were led by Cory Baker's 30 point performance.

San Fernando 73, Van Nuys 62 --San Fernando (9-12, 3-4) was led by Donte Jenkins with 26 points and Ruben Nevarez with 20, while Andre Andura led Van Nuys with 24 points.

Sylmar 90, Monroe 28 --Frank Robinson had 15 points and 15 rebounds and three teammates scored in double figures as the visiting Spartans beat Monroe decisively. Tthe Spartans (15-5, 7-0) also got 15 points from Fernando Barreda and Louis Darby had 13, while Joseph Dickson had 11.


West Valley League

Cleveland 67, Chatsworth 45-- Cleveland (13-8, 6-1) remained in first place behind Nick Young's 23 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks in the win over Chatsworth (6-11, 2-5) which got 15 points from Sterling Stegal

Taft 69, El Camino 56 --Taft's Steve Smith scored 20 points and Chris Catoe scored 13 for the Toreodors (5-2 in league).  Rai Colston scored 13 points for El Camino (10-11, 4-3).

Granada Hills 84, Birmingham 77--Adam Beckler scored 24 points for the Highlanders (8-5, 2-5) in the win over the Patriots (7-10, 2-5), who got 34 points from Mustafa Ashgari and 25 from Loren Leath.


Western League

Hamilton 76, University 73 --Hamilton (12-12, 4-5) was led by Frank Walter with 22 points and Aaron Brown scored 24 pooints while Ruben Boykins added 21 for Uni (15-9, 3-6).

Palisades 78, Los Angeles 59 --Palisades (14-7, 5-4) was led by Tim Jackson with 23 points while Los Angeles (4-5) was led by Jermaine Arterberry with 28 points.

Westchester 91, Venice 52 --Westchester (20-2, 8-1) was led by Arizona-signee Hassan Adams who scored 19 points Keith Everage who also had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Venice (4-14, 0-9).
