LA City Section Boys "Invitational Bracket":
1st Round Results & Details--(Feb. 16, 2001)

The first round matchups have now concluded and the quarterfinals will be played on Wednesday.  Games will be played at the site of the higher seeded team and all games will start at 7:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted.   Details of first round games are below the bracket.

Top Half of the Bracket:

 

No. 1 Huntington Park 61, No. 16 Belmont 51 --Jose Magana scored 20 points and Carlos Gonzalez scored 16 points to lead host  Huntington Park (13-11) over Belmont.  Huntington Park will host Grant in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.

 

No. 8 Grant 79, No. 9 Bravo 67--The Grant Lancers (16-11) were led by junior Gino Riney who scored 33 points and had 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the win.   Teammate Stefen Kaufman had 22 points and 12 rebounds.  Branden Turner scored 31 points for Bravo in the loss.  Grant will travel to No. 1 seed Huntington Park on Wednesday for the quarterfinals.

 

No. 12 University 70, No. 5 Bell 55--Ruben Boykin scored 27 points, and Aaron Brown scored 20 points and pulled down 17 rebounds for visiting University (17-11) in the first round upset of No. 5 seed Bell.  University will travel to No. 4 Banning on Wednesday for quarterfinal action.

 

No. 4  Banning 69, No. 13 Poly 64 --Joey Saavedra scored 42 points for Banning (13-8).  Banning will host University, which upset No. 5 Bell in the first round.

 

Bottom Half of the Bracket:

 

No. 3 Manual Arts 72, No. 14 Kennedy 45 --Jonathan Heard scored 23 points and had 15 rebounds for Manual Arts (13-10) in the first round win over No. 14 seed Kennedy.  Manual Arts will host No. 6 Hamilton on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

 

No. 6 Hamilton 65, No. 11 Granada Hills 46-- Frank Walters scored 23 points for Hamilton (14-14).  Hamilton will travel to No. 3 Manual Arts on Wednesday for the quarterfinals.

 

No. 10 Chatsworth 63, No. 7 Los Angeles 60 --Bruce Neale had 28 points to lead No. 10 Chatsworth, which will meet Valley rival Reseda in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.  Eric Jones scored 15 points to lead Los Angeles (13-12) in the loss.

 

No. 2 Reseda 67, No. 15 Jefferson 56--Senior shooting guard Sergei Lepiashinski scored 15 points for Reseda (20-7) and teammated Keena Estrada added 13 in the win. Reseda will host No. 10 Chatsworth on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.
