Artesia--Bye
Hesperia 71, Bloomington 66 -- Hesperia (15-12) used a 25-17 fourth quarter to help themselves to the first-round victory over Bloomington (10-15). The Bruins outscored Hesperia 22-10 in the third after trailing 36-27 at halftime. Bloomington's Durrell Thomas had seven steals and Joe Bradley had 10 rebounds
Atascadero 66, Calabasas 51 --No details were available
Lompoc 66, Temple City 58 --Joe Smith scored 26 points and Chris Lynwood added 24 points for Lompoc (19-6) in the win over Temple City which received 22 points from Greg Johnston. The game was actually played at Lompoc Cabrillo HS because of a broken rim at the Lompoc gym; on the way to the game, the Lompoc team bus was involved in a bus accident. While no one was injured, it delayed the tema for an additional half-hour. Lompoc fell behind 20-9 after one quarter but rallied to take a 33-30 lead at halftime and stayed in control the rest of the way. Temple City-- Chodos 4, Reed 10, Sweeney 20, Johnston 22, Onogl 2. Total 58. Lompoc-- Starks 2, Hilley 12, Lynwood 24, Smith 26, Adams 2. Total 66. Temple City--21 9 18 10 -- 58 Lompoc--9 24 20 13 -- 66 3-point goals--TC 10 (Chodos 1, Reed 3, Johnston 4, Sweeney 3), L 6 (Hilley 2, Lynwood 3, Smith 1). Fouled out--none. Record--TC 14-11. L 19-5.
Northwood--Bye
Los Altos 74, La Puente 52 --Anthony Garcia scored 19 points, six assists and four steals to lead Los Altos (15-13) in the win over La Puente (12-13) which received 20 points from Conrad Olvera. Senior shooting guard Clint Okamoto scored 13 of his 15 points in the second quarter for the Conquerors.
Fullerton 63, Rim of the World 62 --Jack Thompson hit a three with 20 seconds in the game give Fullerton (15-13) the win over Rim of the World (11-15, which was led by Kyle Rattet with 16 in the loss. Darren Fells scored a game-high 17 points for Fullerton. The Scots had and opportunity to win but turned the ball over with four seconds remaining. Rim of the World struggled at the free-throw line, missing the front end of three one-and-ones in the fourth quarter to finish 8 of 15 overall, but all five starters scored in double figures, including Jimmy Moody who added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Rim of the World.
No. 4 Bishop Amat 62, Monrovia 59 --Despite 23 points from Monrovia forward Bryant Markson, including 19 in the second half, Bishop Amat (21-6) pulled out the win, despite almost blowing a 14 point lead over the Monrovia Wildcats (14-14) in the fourth quarter. Bishop Amat was led by John Haywood who scored 17 points. Paul Porter hit two free throws with three seconds left to ice the game for Bishop Amat and finished with 15 points in the game. Monrovia had one last chance to score but Markson dropped an inbounds pass with 4.1 seconds and Monrovia was forced to foul to stop the clock.
No. 3 Palm Desert--Bye
Diamond Ranch 77, Rosemead 43 --Richard Coombs scored 17 points for host Diamond Ranch (16-9). Fifteen different players scored for Diamond Ranch, and in addition to Coombs, Brent Humphrey added 10 points. Michael Earls had eight points, eight rebounds and five blocks for the Panthers.
Pacifica 40, Western 35 --Visiting Pacifica (14-13) was led by sophomore Brandon Harper who had 16 points and Jason Brock with 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Kvon Tucker had 10 points to lead Western (12-13).
Ocean View 63, Buena Park 46 --Matt Sargent had 18 points and 10 assists for host Ocean View (19-8) in the win over Buena Park (15-12) which got 17 points from Christopher Butts in the loss.
Apple Valley 62, Barstow 55 --Senior 6-3 guard Jamal Holden scored 26 points including four three-pointers as Apple Valley defeated Bartsow 62-55 in a Division III-AA first-round game Wednesday. Senior 6-0 forward Jimmy Bailey added 13 points with three three-pointers for Apple Valley (22-3). Senior 6-5 forward Darrel Sipes had 11 points. Barstow ends the season 14-12.
Dominguez 50, Bonita 37 --Jason Murdock scored 16 points to lead Dominguez, while Justin Miller led Bonita (15-12) with 15 points in the loss. Dominguez outscored Bonita 17-4 in the first quarter.
Newbury Park 56, Mountain View 37 --Chris Randall scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds and Randy Meru added 19 points for Newbury Park (15-11).
No. 2 Mayfair 64, Palm Springs 44 --Justin Hawkins scored 19 points for Mayfair (20-7) in the win over Palm Springs (11-15). Eleven players scored for Mayfair, which took the lead early, leading 19-13 after the end of the first quarter and then took a 40-23 lead into halftime. Kevin Howard led the Indians with 18 points and Anthony Claggett finished with nine. All games with the exception of the final round will start at 7:30 p.m. unless another time is mutually agreed upon and clearance is received from the CIF-SS Office. Public coin flips will be held in the lobby of the CIF-SS Office at 9:00 a.m. the day following each playoff game [these coin flips will determine subsquent sites after the first round, i.e., which school will be the host]. Coin flips will be available after 9:30 a.m. and we'll try to keep everyone posted with them here.
