CIF-SS Boys Division III-AA Bracket:
Quarterfinal Results & Details--(Feb. 20, 2002)

The bracket has been updated to reflect all first and quarterfinal round games, and semifinal matchups are shown. Home teams are the teams with the fewest home games played previously. If both teams have the same number of home games, the home team (which gets to select the "alternate site" for the semifinals) is determined by a coin-flip. Details and scoring in quarterfinal round games is shown below the bracket:

III-AA--Quarterfinal Round Game Results, Played Tuesday 2/20/02

Upper Half of the Bracket:

No. 1 Artesia 94, Lompoc 64--Senior forward Ronald Allen, who has comitted to Cal State Fullerton, had 18 points to lead top-seeded Artesia (20-6). Lynwood had 25 points for Lompoc. Artesia plays Bishop Amat Friday.  Chris Lynwood scored 25 points and Joel Smith added 17 for Lompoc (21-6). Junior Kaelen Daniels added 17 points and 10 rebounds for Artesia.

No. 4 Bishop Amat 69, Northwood 59--Paul Porter scored 21 points and LMU-bound senior John Haywood added 20 to lead No. 4 seed Bishop Amat (23-6), in the win over Northwood (23-4), which was led by Drew Terry with 18 points and Rob Selway with 15 points.

Lower Half of the Bracket

No. 3 Palm Desert 43, Ocean View 41--Senior guard Chase McQuillen finished with 13 points, including two key three-point baskets in the fourth quarter, to lead host Palm Desert (24-4) in the win over visiting Ocean View (20-9).  Josh Zazulia finished with 11 points and 15 rebounds while Donald Brady had 9.  Ocean View was led by Casey Ortiz with 16 points, including four three-pointers.  Palm Desert will host Mayfair at an alternate site on Friday night for the quarterfinal matchup.  Ocean View 8 8 15 10 -- 41 Palm Desert 4 11 13 15 -- 43 Ocean View: Casey Ortiz 16, Jeff Buchannan 4, Steve Clarke 4, Ray Gallardo 4, Matt Hatch 2, Greg Okwudibonye 6, Matt Sargeant 5.  Palm Desert: Josh Zazulia 11, Chase McQuillen 13, Donald Brady 9, Jacob Broyles 4, Jimmy Bohm 2, Quintin Watkins 2

No. 2 Mayfair 68, Apple Valley 65 --Senior 6-3 guard Jamal Holden scored a team-high 22 points as the visiting Sun Devils (23-4) lost to the Monsoons (22-7) in a Division III-AA quarterfinal game. The Sun Devils, who trailed 40-22 at halftime. For the second game in a row, Apple Valley had a chance to win the game on a last-second sho, but with 2.3 seconds left, Darrel Sipes 22-footer to send the game into overtime bounced off the rim as time expired.  Justin Hawkins had 27 points and 6 rebounds, and Aaron King, who scored 18 points for Mayfair.    Carlton Murray had 15 points and 2 rebounds, while Sipes made 4-of-6 3-pointers for 14 points for the Sun Devils.


All games with the exception of the final round will start at 7:30 p.m. unless another time is mutually agreed upon and clearance is received from the CIF-SS Office.  Public coin flips will be held in the lobby of the CIF-SS Office at 9:00 a.m. the day following each playoff game [these coin flips will determine subsquent sites after the first round, i.e., which school will be the host].  Coin flips will be available after 9:30 a.m. and we'll try to keep everyone posted with them here.
