CIF-SS Boys Division IV-AA Bracket:
First Round Pairings--(Feb. 10, 2002)
This is a 32-team bracket with no "Wild-Card" games, and no "byes". The top seeds are No. 1 El Segundo, No. 2 Harvard-Westlake, No. 3 Rosamond, and No. 4 Chaminade. Before getting to the bracket though, a couple of things are apparent: First, the CIF did the right thing by keeping Harvard-Westlake and Chaminade away from each other, putting them in opposite ends of the bracket. Second, no, that's not a typo, Harvard-Westlake, despite being the No. 2 seed will play an away game in the first round against Village Christian. Why? Because CIF Bylaws stipulate that for purposes of constructing the brackets, a No. 2 league entry will play a No. 3 league entry and the higher league representative gets the home game in the first round. H-W finished third in their league (after a tie-breaker giving Chaminade the No. 2 league finish based on a coin flip), so the Woverines will have to get their first win in the playoffs in two years (H-W didn't qualify for playoffs last season) on the road.
We'll have more on each of the teams in these brackets later, but in the meantime, here's the bracket:
