CIF-SS Boys Division IV-A Bracket:
Quarterfinal Results & Details--(Feb. 20, 2002)

The bracket has been updated to reflect all first and quarterfinal round games, and semifinal matchups are shown. Home teams are the teams with the fewest home games played previously. If both teams have the same number of home games, the home team (which gets to select the "alternate site" for the semifinals) is determined by a coin-flip. Details and scoring in quarterfinal round games is shown below the bracket:

IV-A Quarterfinal Round Results--Games Played 2/19

Upper Half of the Bracket

No. 1 Verbum Dei 66, Yeshiva 43--Utah-bound senior Richard Chaney scored 18 for Verbum Dei, which led 29-22 at the half. Adi Isaacs and Isaac Gabbi each scored 13 for Yeshiva. Top-seeded Verbum Dei (25-3) will play Montclair Prep in the semifinals

No. 4 Montclair Prep 62, Oaks Christian 47--Junior foward Nick Stiggers (6'-8" Jr. F) of Montclair Prep (16-11) scored 35 points, 15 in the first quarter, as the Mounties defeated Oaks Christian (24-1),  a team with no seniors and mostly freshmen and sophomores which was playing its first year of varsity competition.  Sean Adams finished with 6 points for Oaks Christian in the loss. Other than Stiggers no player from Montclair Prep scored in double figures.  Robert Lewis had 8 points and Anthony Davis had 6.  Mike Hornbuckle led Oaks Christian with 15 and Aron Cline had seven points. Oaks Christian (47) -- Freeman 4, Avedissian 3, Denham 2, Cline 7, Cheatwood 2, Bryan 3, Hornbuckle 15, Michaelson 2, C. Adams 3, S. Adams 6.  Montclair Prep (60) -- Bozovic 5, Lewis 8, Johnson 4, Stigger 35, Tourville 2, Davis 6.  Oaks Christian 9 12 11 15--47 Montclair Prep 21 11 13 15--60 3-Point goals -- Oaks Christian 3 (Hornbuckle 2, Avedissian). Fouled out -- None. Rebounds -- Oaks Christian 20 (S. Adams 7). Total fouls -- Oaks Chrisitan 14, Montclair Prep 17. Team records -- Oaks Christian 23-2, Montclaire 17-9.

Lower Half of the Bracket

No. 3 Serra 74, Kilpatrick 67--No. 3 seed Serra rallied from an 11-point fourth quarter deficit, to close to within five with 3:24 remaining in the game. Senior point guard Eugene Jeter finished with 26 points with 11 assists and six steals to lead Serra (25-3) in the win over Kilpatrick.  Chris Hemphill added 13 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks, and Loren Wade had 10 points, 10 rebounds and six steals in the win over Kilpatrick (20-5).

No. 2 Calvary Chapel Downey  70, Western Christian 60-- Senior guard Timothy Drisdom had 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists to record a triple-double as the Grizzlies (24-4) defeated the visiting Fighting Lancers (20-8) in the quarterfinals. Senior guard Jonathan James also had 14 points for Calvary Chapel Downey


All games with the exception of the final round will start at 7:30 p.m. unless another time is mutually agreed upon and clearance is received from the CIF-SS Office.  Public coin flips will be held in the lobby of the CIF-SS Office at 9:00 a.m. the day following each playoff game [these coin flips will determine subsquent sites after the first round, i.e., which school will be the host].  Coin flips will be available after 9:30 a.m. and we'll try to keep everyone posted with them here.
