CIF-SS Boys Division III-A Bracket:
Quarterfinal Results & Details--(Feb. 20, 2002)

The bracket has been updated to reflect all first and quarterfinal round games, and semifinal matchups are shown. Home teams are the teams with the fewest home games played previously. If both teams have the same number of home games, the home team (which gets to select the "alternate site" for the semifinals) is determined by a coin-flip. Details and scoring in quarterfinal round games is shown below the bracket:

III-A  Quarterfinal Round Game Results, Played Tuesday 2/19/02

Upper Half of the Bracket

No. 1 Compton Centennial 48, Pomona 46--No. 1 seed Compton Centennial (27-0) was led by sophomore point guard Gabriel Pruitt with 18 points in the win over Pomona (23-6). Odell Howard led Pomona with 20 points and 15 rebounds  Pomona was trailing 32-25 at halftime but closed to within two, 41-39 at the end of the third, and the margin remained the same in the end. 

No. 4 Muir 76, Ganesha 54--Saint Louis University-bound senior forward Ryan Hollins (6'-10" Sr. F) had 28 points and 13 rebounds to lead host Muir (23-5), in the win over Ganesha (24-5) which was led by senior combo guard Michael Efervbeha who scored 33 points and nine rebounds in the loss.  Efervbeha has committed verball to UC Irvine.   The Mustangs led 6-0 early, held a 10-point lead after just 5 1/2 minutes and never trailed.

Bottom Half of the Bracket

Ridgecrest Burroughs 71, San Dimas 60--Ridgecrest Burroughs (15-9) was led by Chris Woodson with 19 points, Gavin MacGregor with 18 points and 18 rebounds and Travis Kincaid with 13 points in the win over San Dimas (22-7) which got 19 points from Curtis Small in the loss.

No. 2 Bishop Montgomery 78, Covina 49 --Junior forward Fred Washington had 33 points and 15 rebounds to lead Bishop Montgomery (22-6) in the win over Covina (22-6) which was led by Jino La Bomme with 19 points.  Washington sat most of the second half after getting into foul trouble. Brandon Peace added 13 points and 11 assists.


All games with the exception of the final round will start at 7:30 p.m. unless another time is mutually agreed upon and clearance is received from the CIF-SS Office.  Public coin flips will be held in the lobby of the CIF-SS Office at 9:00 a.m. the day following each playoff game [these coin flips will determine subsquent sites after the first round, i.e., which school will be the host].  Coin flips will be available after 9:30 a.m. and we'll try to keep everyone posted with them here.
