LB State Pyramid

Before we get to anything else, we want to say congratulations to the folks who ran this event, including Chris Abeyta, the Extravaganza Chairman, Geoff McKnight, the assistant coordinarot, Aaron Sullivan, the Media Coordinator, and our friend Steve Kasper, among others.

This in part is from the message we posted last night from the Pyramid, and unfortunately we don't have the time tonight to post up more detailed reports because we've got to finish with the SoCalHoops Top 20 polls, but the report below will give you the basics about what happened.  If we have time later after doing the polls for this week, we'll post full box scores.  In the meantime, here's the down and dirty details about what happened other than Mater Dei v. Oak Hill:

In the game immediately preceding the headliner game (which didn't start until almost 10:00 p.m) Long Beach Poly just got hammered by Vashon. Really hammered. 70-60, but it was mostly a 15 to 18 point lead for the guys from St. Louis for most of the game.  We didn't post a detailed report in our message, but the reality is that Long Beach Poly just didn't show up, and their guard play was not impressive at all.  In fact, it was a turnover fest for the Jackrabbits, and in case there's a thought that this team should continue to be the No.1 ranked team in I-AA, well, we just didn't see it last night from anyone in this squad.  Let's put it this way:   The Jackrabbits didn't have a single player who could get the ball up past Vashon's fullcourt press except Bobby Jones, and he's not a point guard, although he might want to put that on his resume since he was called on enough to do that.  Anyway, there's not much else to say about this one, so we won't.

Taking the rest of the results in reverse order, here's what happened:

Villa Park 66, Crenshaw 65--Kyle Hogan scored 20 for VP and Sean Phaler had 12, Brice Prather 22. For Crenshaw, Marcus Williams 14, Terrence Jones 11, and Onye Ibekwe 12.

Green Valley 53, Santa Margarita 50--This was a loss for SM which (in our opinion only) likely shouldn't significantly affect their ranking either in our poll or in the SCIBCA poll (meaning they will stay within the top four), and it could have gone either way at the end and came down to the last shot. Lenny Collins played his butt off, scored 20, Brandon Rohe had 12 (didn't have a great shooting night, 3-16, but hey, it happens to the best), and Travis Smith had 12 on 3-8 shooting. We'd relay the Green Valley scoring, but it wouldn't mean anything to anyone except the Nevada folks....

Sonora 57, Corona Centennial 40-- JR Reese had 19 in the loss for Centennial and was the only CC player in double figures. Sonora was led by Jacob Trejo with 16, LaRence kniht with 11 adn Randy Rogers with 10.

St. John Bosco 75, Ocean View 61-- SJB was led by Giovanni St. Amant with 27, a game high. Eric Lane had 16, Robert Reynaga had 18, and Donald Quiroz had 10. Ocean View got 23 points from Casey Ortiz, 12 from Matt Hatch, 12 from Greg Okwudibonye, and 8 from Matt Sargeant. [Finally, some other stats besides Matt Sargeant's assists....just kidding].

Brea Olinda 69, Valley Center 49-- Evan Moore is quickly demonstrating that he's a big time D-I player, scoring 19 in this one, 12 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Phillip Jones had 10, Brandon Nicholson had 11, Richard Repp had 10. Valley Center's high scorer was Daniel Stedman with 17.

Costa Mesa 69, Servite 53-- CM was led by Chad Vakiili with 26, and David Conte had 19 and 9 assists.l Danny Krikorian had 16. Servite was led by Andrew Martin with 11 and Chris Kane with 10.

Glendora 64, Westminster 34--This was a typical 8:30 a.m. game...one team just got killed. Larry Monroe led Glendora with 20 and 5 assists, Mike Mehanna had 6, Spencer Foster 13 and 10 rebounds. Westminster was led by Louis An with 11 and Tong Nguyen with 10, and didn't have any others in double figures....
