Game" Coaches Selected--(Mar. 13, 2002)

What:  Daily Bulletin "Inland Valley HS All Star Game"
When:  March 30, 2002
Where: Kellogg Gym, Cal Poly Pomona
Who:   Boys HS All Stars, Girls HS All Stars

Four coaches for the 2002 Inland Valley All-Star High School Basketball Games have been announced.  The games will take place March 30, 2002 at Cal Poly Pomona's Kellogg Gym, and will feature the best seniors of the northern Inland Valley schools against the best from the south part of the Valley.  This is the Pomona Valley region and Ontario we're talking about, not the San Fernando Valley, which is an entirely different game, so try not to get confused. Coaches who were announced were A.B. Miller's John Romagnoli who will coach the "North" team and the South will be coached by Ayala head coach Tom Gregory.  On the girls side, Diamond Ranch coach Ed Taylor will lead the South and the North team will be coached by Rancho Cucamonga's Ellen Jackman.

The game is sponsored in part by the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin and by the La Verne Rotary Club.

Romagnoli has coached the Rebels for four seasons, with an overall record of 56-51. Previously he was an assistant on the Miller coaching staff for four seasons.  This season, he led the Rebels to a 23-6 record and the No. 3 seed in the Division 1AA playoffs. The team advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Capistrano Valley.  Gregory has been one of the most successful coaches in Southern California over the past quarter-century, amassing a 407-190 mark over 23 years of coaching and a 253-86 record for the past 12 years at Ayala and this season the Bulldogs completed their 10th straight 20-win season and advanced to the Division 1AA quarterfinals.  Diamond Ranch's Ed Taylor coached in the 1991 game, but as a boys coach while with Pomona High. Since moving over to Diamond Ranch five years ago, Taylor has recorded a 78-33 mark as head coach and Miramonte League titles the past two seasons. Jackman coached the 1995 North squad and her team went 18-9 and finished second in the Mt. Baldy League this season.

The names of the players selected for the game have not yet been announced but will be revealed in the next week.
