Ron Quarterman Joins Brad
Wright At Pierce JC--(Feb. 5, 2002)
It's been a while since we've reported on any coaching changes, seeing as how we've been so wrapped up in reporting the high school season, but now that things are winding down and March Madness is gearing up, there will be a lot of coaching changes....at the high school, JUCO, and college level that we'll be reporting on in the coming months.
Last month, Pierce Community College announced that the school was going to resurrect its dormant men's basketball program. For those who were unaware or don't remember, Pierce in the 1960's was a perennial powerhouse, and it also saw several excellent coaches get their starts as head coaches, including Denny Crum, who retired last year at Louisville.
The new head coach is former UCLA center Brad Wright, and yesterday's LA Times reported that Wright will be bringing to his staff the head coach from Burbank HS, Ron Quarterman. The Times announced yesterday that Quarterman had tendered his resignation to Burbank, and would start at Pierce immediately as the lead assistant, and this probably explains why we saw Coach Wright and Coach Quarterman at LMU on Friday checking out some of the games, looking for potential players to fill roster spots at Pierce.... just a guess.
We've known Ron for many years and he's an excellent coach and a great guy, and will surely help put the Pierce program back on the map. Good luck to him and to Brad Wright in their mutual coaching endeavors.
